Song of Gathering Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus

Chorus:Turn your eyes upon JesusLook full in His wonderful faceAnd the things of earth will grow strangely dimIn the light of His glory and grace

O soul, are you weary and troubled? No light in the darkness you see? There’s light for a look at the SaviorAnd life more abundant and free

Through death into life everlastingHe passed and we follow Him thereO’er us sin no more hath dominionFor more than conquerors we are

His word shall not fail you, He promisedBelieve Him and all will be wellThen go to a world that is dyingHis perfect salvation to tell

Song of Gathering: This first song of the service is meant to prepare our minds and hearts for worship. Feel free to sing along or simply medi-tate as we begin our time worshiping God.

Call to Worship: We worship because we are called to do so. This call, usually taken from a psalm, is an invitation into the presence of God; to worship and praise him.

Song of Praise All Creatures of Our God and King

All creatures of our God and King, Lift up your voice and with us sing, Alleluia! Alleluia!Thou burning sun with golden beam, Thou silver moon with softer gleam,

Refrain:O praise Him! O praise Him!Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

Thou rushing wind that art so strong Ye clouds that sail in Heaven along,O praise Him! Alleluia!Thou rushing morn in praise rejoice, Ye lights of evening find a voice,

Thou flowing water pure and clear Make music for Thy Lord to hear Alleluia! Alleluia!Thou fire so masterful and brightThat givest man both warmth and light,

All ye men of tender heart Forgiving others take your partO sing ye! Alleluia!Ye who long pain and sorrow bear, Praise God and on Him cast your care

Let all things their Creator bless,And worship Him in humbleness.O praise Him! Alleluia!Praise, praise the Father, praise the Son And praise the Spirit, Three in One

Prayer of Adoration (concluding with the Lord’s Prayer)

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Song of Praise: We enter into God’s presence praising him for who he is, and delighting in his desire to be in relationship with us.

Prayer of Adoration: Praying is essential to worship. As we pray, we begin by adoring God for who he is and what he has done through his son Jesus. We conclude this prayer by reciting together the Lord’s Prayer.

Call to Confession From Isaiah 30:18

Leader: The Lord waits to be gracious to you, and he therefore exalts himself to show mercy to you.

All: For the Lord is a God of justice; blessed are all those who wait for him.

Prayer of Confession Adapted from Psalm 6 (followed by Silent Confession)

Leader: Holy and most merciful Lord, we come confessing. Do not rebuke us in your anger nor discipline us in your weath.

All: Be gracious to us, O Lord. Our sins bear us down and exhaust us. We are weary because of the evil that we continually choose.

Leader: Our souls are troubled by our own wicked deeds. Our sins hurt others and dishonor your name.

All: Turn to us, Holy Father, and save us for the sake of your steadfast love.

Leader: Give us godly grief over our sins. Let us mourn our own participation in and concessions to the powers of sin and darkness in this world.

All: Hear our pleas and accept our prayers, all for the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ. Put our enemies––the world, theflesh, andthedevil––toshameandleadusintonewness of life.

Call to Confession: As we praise God, and through the Spirit showing us, we become aware of our own imperfections in light of our perfect God. In love, God calls us to freely and openly confess our sins before him.

Confession of Sin: Sin is not only something that we’ve done wrong. Rather, it’s a state of being that we’re born into, and that we need saving from. It is impossible to conquer sin on our own, or make amends for it by our own ac-tions. Our only hope is to turn to Christ, asking that he forgive and conquer sin for us, and - by grace alone and through faith alone - save us.

Assurance of Forgiveness Psalm 103:13, 14, 17 As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him. For he knows our frame; he remembers that we are dust. The steadfast love of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear him, and his righteous-ness to children’s children.

Song of Thanks O the Deep Deep Love of Jesus Oh the deep, deep love of JesusVast, unmeasured, boundless, freeRolling as a mighty oceanIn its fullness over meUnderneath me, all around meIs the current of your loveLeading onward, leading homewardTo your glorious rest above

Oh the deep, deep love of JesusSpread his praise from shore to shoreHow he loveth, ever loveth,Changeth never, nevermoreHow he watches o’er his loved onesDied to call them all his ownHow for them he intercedethWatches o’er them from the throne

Oh the deep, deep love of JesusLove of every love the best‘Tis an ocean vast of blessing‘Tis a haven sweet of restOh the deep, deep love of Jesus ‘Tis heaven of heavens to meAnd it lifts me up to gloryFor it lifts me up to thee

Assurance of Forgiveness: As we confess our sin, God offers us the assurance that, in Jesus, we are forgiven and loved regardless of what we’ve done in the past. Because of Jesus, we are no longer condemned by our sin, but are brought into new life by the Spirit.

Song of Thanks: Knowing that we are forgiven, and knowing that Jesus has reconciled us with God the Father, we sing with thankful hearts.

Statement of Faith Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic* church, the commu-nion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. *That is, the true Christian church of all times and all places.

Sermon Not the Stomach, but the Heart

Central text Mark 1:29-39 29 And immediately he left the synagogue and entered the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. 30 Now Simon’s moth-er-in-law lay ill with a fever, and immediately they told him about her. 31 And he came and took her by the hand and lifted her up, and the fever left her, and she began to serve them. 32 That evening at sundown they brought to him all who were sick or oppressed by demons. 33 And the whole city was gathered together at the door. 34 And he healed many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons. And he would not permit the demons to speak, because they knew him. 35 And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed. 36 And Simon and those who were with him searched for him, 37 and they found him and said to him, “Everyone is looking for you.” 38 And he said to them, “Let us go on to the next towns, that I may preach there also, for that is why I came out.” 39 And he went throughout all Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and casting out demons.

Reader: The Word of the LordAll: Thanks be to God!

Prayer

Sermon: Though spoken by a person, we are to hear the sermon as God speaking to us. A sermon is a study in God’s Word, the announcement of the good news in Christ, and an invitation to apply the truth of God’s Word to our daily lives. At Gracehill, our sermons are not generally based on certain themes; rather, we study through individual books of the Bible.

Doxology: In the Greek - doxologia, a word (lo-gos) of glory (doxa). The doxology is an ancient hymn of praise, and has been part of the wor-ship service in many churches for centuries. It is sung in response to the Lord’s abundant grace for us and his church.
