Dear St. Jerome! Peace and greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! It was joy-giving seeing a good number of you return to Mass this last weekend. It is my prayer and hope that everyone is staying healthy and have the joy of the Lord in your hearts. Like the early Church communities, it is the desire to do the work of the Lord and the hunger to be united with Him in the Eucharist that gives us the strength and courage to gather and worship Him. Paraphrasing the Catechism of the Catholic Church, the gathering together of the Church is God’s response to the chaos provoked by sin or by any other forces allied to the evil one. The greater our unity and resilience, the more evident and distinct is the presence and power of the Holy Spirit. Friends, just as the great turning of the seasons of the year faith-fully provide a rhythm for our lives, so could the many changes, including the unexpected ones remind us of the fidelity of God the Father. A great promise of the Lord Jesus prior to his departure is “I will send you another Advocate” (Holy Spirit). “I will not leave you orphans.” Jesus did not call us to follow, only to say, “By the way , you are on your own.” No, not all! Jesus gave us the Holy Spirit to be the energy and sustaining power in our life of faith. This Holy Spirit is manifested in the ordinary gifts of fidelity and strength that enable us to live out our faith day by day. This prom-ise of the Lord is also evident in the Eucharistic presence as a pledge of His love and eternal life. With the Eucharist, we are not orphans, we are never alone, no matter what we may face. In this time and always, let us implore the help of the Holy Spirit, the Advocate; for the journey is long and the road is narrow. But do not let your hearts be troubled, says the Lord! Remain in the Lord always!
Fr. James
