Handbells Have a Home! A big thank you goes out to Kurt Skinner for using his excellent wood-working skills to pro-vide Enon UMC with a new storage cabinet to house our new handbells and hanchimes. The cabinet is currently in place down in Roth Hall just outside of the technology office. It will house several large “suitcases” containing the bells and chimes. The cabinet also has space to store some of the other equipment needed for the playing of the bells. Kurt also put a lock-

Prayer Shawl

Ministry

Prayer Shawls and Pocket Prayer Shawls are available for you to share with your family and friends. Contact the church office, Lin Tranter or Mary-Ellen Lindsey if you would like to request one.

Dear Prayer Shawl Ministry . . .

Thank you so much for the prayer shawls for my friend, Karen and her family on the passing of her father. I know they were very appreciated and a source of com-fort. I’m very grateful to all involved in this ministry as I know what a blessing and a witness it is!

Thanks again! Love, Sue Scott

I want to thank you so very much on my gifts. The day my package arrived, I was having a very emo-tional crying day. After opening, my whole attitude changed. I was smiling happy knowing other people I didn’t know were also praying for me. Oh, I am so blessed. I will beat breast cancer because of our faith and God’s healing, amen. I carry my pocket prayer shawl everywhere.

Thanks, Lisa Hand Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the beautiful prayer shawls in memory of my Dad. We’ll never forget your expression of love during this time. God bless each and every one of you.

Karen & Paul Amos

Spring Outreach Normally our spring outreach would be participating in Blessings in a Bottle to raise funds for the Pregnancy Resource Center. At this time, the PRC is not certain as to how this is going to happen. So, future information will be published in the Communique. We will continue to collect money for Trotwood tornado relief during the month of May. To date, approximately $100 has been donated. You can designate some of your weekly or monthly offering to this relief by stating the amount on your check on the memo line. Depending upon the time we return to church, a decision will be made about our Project Woman outreach. Enon Emergency Relief can use food and monetary dona-tions. Food can be dropped off during their Monday after-noon hours (2:30 - 5:00pm). You can also send money to the church for EER, and we will see that it is sent to them. EER depends on Second Harvest in Springfield for many items, so visit their website, https://theshfb.org to donate.

Get Your Copy of The Upper Room! The May/June issue of The Upper Room is available. Stop by the office between 10:00am-noon on weekdays to pick up a pa-per copy (they’ll be in a box on the porch bench). Don’t miss the June 3rd meditation by our own Lin Tranter!

You can also download it as a PDF on the Upper Room website for free. The Upper Room also has created a web page featuring resources to help create and maintain spir-itual wellness during anxious times.

Dear Enon UMC Family and Friends, Good Morning! This morning, as I write this, it is absolutely beautiful outside! I think the sunshine and spring together are a great beginning for any day! How are you? I think of you often and pray for you. I miss you. These last weeks have not been easy and for some of you an even more trying time as you are separated from loved ones. Some of you have experienced cut hours, furlough, or the loss of a job for you or a family member, and the list continues. The world has been impacted by this virus. It often leaves fear and anxiety in its wake. The good news is that Jesus Is Alive! Death has been defeated! We have hope in the Risen Lord! We can still experience the Joy of the Lord and that perfect Peace that only comes from Him. Read and ponder on these words from I Peter 1:3-9 (CEB) May the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ be blessed! On account of his vast mercy, he has given us new birth. You have been born anew into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. You have a pure and enduring inheritance that cannot perish—an inheritance that is presently kept safe in heaven for you. Through his faithfulness, you are guarded by God’s power so that you can receive the salvation he is ready to reveal in the last time.

You now rejoice in this hope, even if it’s necessary for you to be distressed for a short time by various trials. This is necessary so that your faith may be found genuine. (Your faith is more valuable than gold, which will be destroyed even though it is itself tested by fire.) Your genuine faith will result in praise, glo-ry, and honor for you when Jesus Christ is revealed. Although you’ve never seen him, you love him. Even though you don’t see him now, you trust him and so rejoice with a glorious joy that is too much for words. You are receiv-ing the goal of your faith: your salvation.

Pray often, spend time in the Scriptures, and rest in the Lord. There may be days that it feels like you just “hit the wall”, but the Lord is faith-ful. He will not abandon or orphan you. We can never be separated from His love, not in life or in death. We are Easter People! Hallelujah! Give thanks and praise to the Lord! Prayers, Blessings, and Love, Pastor Jan

Greetings in the name of Jesus the Risen Christ.

I promised you that by May 4 I would share my guidance and encouragement about what I have come to refer to as Return to Public Church. By that, I mean the when and the how of our gathering for worship, Bible study, small groups and meetings in alignment with the clear guid-ance of state and federal leadership. Gov. Mike DeWine's briefing today was helpful and need-ed.

In the special edition of NewsNet that you will receive, we will post the guidelines for returning appropriate to our mission and ministry. They are going through a final check now to make sure they are consonant with the guidance coming from the State of Ohio. When our guide-lines are posted, please read them carefully and implement them with seriousness and intentionality. We have come so far by our shared commitment and sacrifice. The last thing we want is to take any steps backward. And remember: this will be a phased-in re-turn in terms of size of groups and activi-ties.

Make no mistake; we will be doing some old things in new ways, and we will not be doing some things at all.

I am now asking you to project May 24 as the Sunday to start up again, according to the guidelines. This gives all of us several more weeks of prep time to deep clean, acquire supplies, publicize and so forth. May 24 is a day of special significance for United Methodists. We call it Aldersgate Day. For us, it is an opportunity to remember one of the founders of our move-ment and some of our history. Aldersgate Day commemorates John Wesley's experience of assurance that God's gift of salvation was, indeed, for him. He said: In the evening I went very unwillingly to a society in Aldersgate Street, where one was reading Luther's preface to the Epistle to the Romans. About a quarter before nine, while he was describing the change which God works in the heart through faith in Christ, I felt my heart strangely warmed. I felt I did trust in Christ, Christ alone, for salvation; and an as-surance was given me that He had taken away my sins, even mine, and saved me from the law of sin and death. I know some would like to go back to church sooner, and others still would rather we hold off longer. If the weekend of May 24, for any reason, turns out to be too soon because of a setback, we can adjust. Some folks have repeatedly asked whether or not they would get in trouble with me if they have been holding services all along. Please know my capacity and desire to "police" this is at the bottom of my to-do list. At the end of the day, my task is to offer and point toward the things that will build up our common life, increase our capacity and help pour more life and love into the world. I am ever so grateful for your prayers, support, cooperation and trust. We have come a long way, and we have a long way to go. My heart is full, and my hat is off to you for your heroic and creative efforts in this unprecedented sea-son when we have taken on an uninvited, un-welcome intruder. We have flattened the curve. Now, let's crush it. I beg you not to set aside any new, creative approaches to ministry you have adopted. You have found a way in the most for-midable of circumstances to be the church. Thank you. Thanks be to God. Yours in Christ, +Bishop Gregory V. Palmer

Dear Church Family and Friends,

Below you will find our latest update from Bishop Palmer. His letter offers hope for once again gathering together as a church family. Guidelines as to how we gather and do it safely will be coming shortly.

What we remember of coming to church will, at least for this season, be very different. We will need to adhere to the guidelines put forth by the state as well as the guidelines from our Bishop. Our church leaders will also be in conversation as to how we open and keep everyone safe.

Emmanuel, God is with us. Please be in prayer as we continue this journey together.

Blessings and love, Pastor Jan
