First Destination results are overseen by the President’s Cabinet and administered by Institutional Research, Planning, and E ectiveness and the Career Center

This report is intended to provide an overview of the fi rst destination plans of those graduating from Colorado State University (CSU). Complete results are published on the Institutional Research, Planning, and E ectiveness web page. Masters and PhD individual program results are separate, are not published on the Institutional Research, Planning, and E ectiveness web page, and are intended for internal use only due to the unique nature and size of each graduate program.

Methodology:All graduating students were encouraged to respond to the First Destination Survey as part of the Graduation Ready process. The current administration of the survey includes graduates from August 2016 through May 2017. Following best practices set by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), follow-up data was gathered through multiple sources including the CSU Follow-Up First Destination Survey, the National Student Clearinghouse, and LinkedIn. The overall knowledge rate (the percentage of graduates that CSU has knowledge of their post-graduation plans) was 79% (n=3920) for undergraduate students and 67% (n=1432) for graduate students.

Salient Undergraduate Student Findings:• 84% of 2016-17 undergraduate students from our fi ndings had their plans secured by December 2017; this is a

1-percentage point decrease from last year.

• Almost nine out of ten (89%) undergraduate students from our fi ndings had either a job o er or actually secured plans for employment/further education; this is also known as the “o er rate”.

• Of the four factors (completing an internship, using career services, a GPA above a 3.0 and on-campus employment), this was the second year that completing an internship stood out in being associated with higher rates of securing plans, higher salaries, and higher rates of fi nding employment in relevant fi elds.

• CSU undergraduate students from our fi ndings reported being hired by over 1,600 unique employers; this unique number of employers is approximately 200 organizations higher than last year. 82% of those unique employers hired 1 CSU undergraduate student and 10% hired 2 CSU undergraduate students.

• Approximately 180 unique schools admitted CSU undergraduate students; this number is just slightly higher (+30) than last year.

• The average salary (full-time permanent) reported by undergraduate students from our fi ndings ($49,262 is the highest it has been since this process started 5 years ago.

• 81% indicated their plans were related to their major, a 3-percentage point increase; 83% indicated that their plans were related to their career plans, which is similar to last year’s results.

• 75% of employed undergraduate students from our fi ndings secured employment in Colorado and undergraduate students found employment in 46 states and the District of Columbia.

Salient Graduate Student Findings:• 96% of graduate students from our fi ndings had either a job o er or actually secured plans for employment/

further education, 5-percentage points higher than last year. Much of this is likely due to the additional use of National Student Clearinghouse data for graduate students.

• 95% of graduate students from our fi ndings secured their plans by December 2017 with 81% employed and 14% pursuing continuing education (additional graduate school, professional school or additional employment not graduate school).

• Over 825 unique employers hired CSU graduate students.

• 93% of respondents indicated that their plans were related to their graduate program, while 95% indicated their employment was related to their career plans.

• 50% of employed graduate students from our fi ndings secured employment in Colorado and graduate students found employment in 45 states and the District of Columbia.
