May 2008 set a new recor for the monthly mean tem!erature which was "".#$C, e%ceeing the !re&ious recor 'y 0.#$ C. (he mean ma%imum tem!erature was almost 2$C a'o&e normal 'ut thelargest e!arture from the long)term mean was the a&erage minimum tem!erature, which was awho!!ing ".#$C higher than e%!ecte. Con&ersely, the humiity was e%ce!tionally low ranging 'etween 10 an 1#* 'elow normal, hel!ing to +ee! conitions comforta'le.

(he first few ays of May were &ery hay with &isi'ility consistently 'etween ")7 +m. (he lowest

ma%imum for the month occurre on the 1st when the tem!erature reache "-.#$C. y the -th theworst of the usty conitions ha cleare an tem!eratures ha increase. During the #th, unsta'leconitions e&elo!e o&er the region triggering thunerstorm clous o&er the /ulf to the east ofatar. During the early morning of the 6th, the thunerstorm acti&ity a!!roache Du'ai, unleashingstrong wins, gusting to #" +nots, along the coast. (he im!act of the suall on the ir!ort wassignificantly less with wins only gusting to "2 +nots with 'lowing san 'riefly reucing &isi'ility to-000 metres. few s!ots of rain were also e%!erience, 'ut were not enough to wet the rain gauge.

3ollowing the !assage of the storm, the win flow settle to a moerate northwesterly until the 8th 'ringing cooler air to the Emirates. s the wins wea+ene on the 4th, tem!eratures 'egan to risean !ea+e at -".1$C on the 10th, this 'eing the highest ma%imum tem!erature recore uring the

month. Moerate southerly wins then !ersiste until the 12th maintaining the higher tem!eratures.During May strong tem!erature graients often e&elo! as lan tem!eratures increase ra!ily 'ut thesea tem!erature remains relati&ely cool. (his results in stronger than normal sea 'reees anoccasional sea 'reee fronts. goo e%am!le of this occurre on the 12th, when a sea 'reeea&eraging 20 +nots an gusting to "" +nots hit Du'ai ir!ort raising san an reucing &isi'ility to1000 metres for a 'rief !erio.

During the 1"th, a light to moerate northwesterly flow re)e&elo!e allowing tem!eratures to ease alittle. 3rom the 1"th until the 14th conitions remaine !leasant an although tem!eratures remainea'o&e normal, the humiity was low with relati&ely goo &isi'ility. During the morning of the 20th,moerate southerly wins ga&e way to fresh northwesterly wins as a wea+ surface trough !asse

(hroughout theshamal conitions were hay with ust trans!orte from the eserts of the northern /ulf. (he lowestminimum tem!erature for the month, 2-.1$C was recore on the 2"r.
