• Jim sent out over 80 individualized emails to AIAA members expressing interest in the DETC from Bob Dauwalters AIAA list – 8 responses total 3 calls, not able to participate, 5 emails– 1 Ray Cosner: Boeing, explained 3 Boeing folks are already on
our TC and Boeing won’t support more than that– 2 Are going to pass the info onto their local sections

• Emphasis to upgrade members where qualified
• Sr Member Requirements– Individuals who have demonstrated a
successful professional practice in the arts, sciences, or technology of aeronautics or astronautics for the equivalent of at least eight years … or who have at least eight years of continuous professional membership in AIAA. The Membership Committee reviews applications and nominations each month.

• Assoc Fellow Requirements– Individuals who have accomplished or been in charge
of important engineering or scientific work … or have done original work of outstanding merit … or have otherwise made outstanding contributions to the arts, sciences, or technology of aeronautics or astronautics. Nominees must be Senior Members with at least 12 years of professional experience (four years of post-graduate studies may be included, if applicable). Three AIAA member references with the standing of Associate Fellow, Fellow, or Honorary Fellow are required.

• The participation model was accepted for implementation in 2009– If a member does not meet the requirements
in a calendar year, he/she will be on probation the following year and must meet requirements that year or may be dismissed from the TC

Baseline Participation Model
1. DETC Members must accrue a minimum of (10) points per calendar year to remain a member in good standing.
2. Attendance at one DETC meeting per year is mandatory; (two) strongly encouraged.3. Point value for DETC participation:
Attendance at a DETC meeting: 4 pointsConference Meeting Remote Participation: 1 point for each occurrence, maximum of (2) to be
credited Subcommittee Telecons, Working Activities 1 point for each occurrence, maximum of (3) to be
credited Paper Review, Paper Session Chair, Paper Judge, Session Presence 1 point for each
occurrence, maximum of (3) to be credited.TC Leadership via S/C Chair, Liaison, Awards or Membership : 1 point for each occurrence,
maximum of (3) to be credited: Publications via AIAA and TC Paper Sessions: 1 point for each occurrence, maximum of (3) to
be credited4. A member in good standing may carry over up to 50% of excess points with a
maximum of 5 points from prior year's activities. Additional points may be carried over with the approval of the committee.
5. Any member not meeting the (10) point requirement will be placed in a probationary status for one year.
6. Any member not meeting the (10) point requirement for two consecutive years may be removed from the committee.
7. DETC members from academia & international may remain in good standing with accrual of (6) points per calendar year.

• DETC Bank Account - $656.00 – Account was closed on 5/1 and funds deposited with AIAA account
• Royalty Account - $7905.51 as of 5/1/09 – In the account merger, two errors were found – one positive and one
negative for the account; almost equal in value so TAC recommended calling it “a wash” – no further action
– Based on past performance, more monitoring will be required of the AIAA sole account
• Request $5 annual donation from all members.

• Contest Summary– 65 teams entered– 54 teams submitted reports– 41 teams attended the fly-off– 39 teams passed tech inspection– 32 teams completed at least one successful
flight

• Rules Summary– In addition to passing a safety and technical
inspection, the teams were required to attempt and complete the following missions
• Pre-mission Assembly– Drop test, system weight and timed assembly of the aircraft
• Ferry Mission– Timed flight with empty fuel tank (4 litre water bottle)
• Surveillance Mission– Endurance flight with full fuel tank
• Store Release Mission– Time store assy pre-mission– Five laps with stores (Estes ballasted model rocket)– At the completion of each lap, land and drop one specified
store then take-off and complete another lap– Final lap with no stores

AIAA Year in Review Guidelines
• From Greg Wilson, Production Editor• Length 600 words• Article Information: Committee reports should cover the most
important developments in a particular technology or system. Breakthroughs and setbacks that have occurred during the past year, the reasons they are important, and their impact on the aerospace community should be included. How industry trends, such as mergers and buyouts, have affected your discipline should be addressed as well. Please try to coordinate your efforts withoverlapping TCs to avoid needless duplication of effort. These should NOT be reports of committee activities or AIAA conferences.
• Artwork Information: Submission should be accompanied by a minimum of two captioned photographs, preferably in color. The images must be high-resolution (300 dpi) TIFs or JPGs.
