HB 105 Sandra Day O’Connor Bill

• LA standards must include standards pertaining to civics education.

• Beginning with the 2012-13 school year, the reading and language arts IM shall include civics education content at all grade levels.

• Beginning with students entering grade 6 in the 2012-13 school year, one of these courses must be at least a one semester civics education course that a student successfully completes.

HB 105 Sandra Day O’Connor Bill • During the 2012-13 school year,

an end-of-course assessment in civics education shall be field tested. During the 2013-14 school year, EOC in civics education shall constitute 30% of the student’s final grade.

• Beginning with the 2014-15 school year, a student must earn a passing score on the EOC in civics education in order to pass the course and receive course credit.

textbooks” to the definition of “adequate instructional materials” Beginning in the 2012-2013 fiscal year, the bill authorizes the use of instructional materials funding to purchase materials not on the state-adopted list including computer hardware that is used for the sole purpose of delivering instructional materials content in an electronic format.
