The Wigan Chapter launched out into a new venture of faith for their April Dinner meeting held on Monday 18 th April last. In order to expand their area of influence, it was decided to hold every fourth Dinner meeting in a new area outside of Wigan town. The initial trial run was centred on the Leigh Sports Village Complex, on the outskirt of Leigh, due south from Wigan. The Chapter was venturing into the un- known, so Stuart Jones, the Chapter President, booked the dining facilities of the Stadium, in faith - for 50 dinners! E-mails flew here, there, and every- where. The local Leigh Reporter sported an advertisement for the Dinner meet- ing. Members busied themselves giving invites out. In March of this year, the Wigan Chapter had been invited to take part in the Lord Mayor’s inaugural Prayer Breakfast, planned by Councillor Mi- chael Winstanley, a local churchman. This Prayer Breakfast is believed to be a first, certainly in that area, to be held for members of the local community to attend. The Lord Mayor cordially ac- cepted the Chapter’s invitation to join them at the Dinner Meeting. Councillor Winstanley attended, resplendent in his Mayoral chain of Office. A week before the Dinner, we only had 23 bookings. Help! Texts mes- sages flew around the Chapter book now! By the following Thursday, we were up to strength. On Friday morning disaster! Nine guests dropped out! Text messages and telephone calls for urgent prayer where sent around the members. “The new facility manage- ment are not as forgiving as our regular Hotel venue. Please pray in replace- ments to make up the numbers! Mon- day morning God had done it again! Not only was the full quota met -- we were oversubscribed! And, there’s more! Our own star, home-grown, guest speaker, Paul Fenton, had to can- cel his engagement to attend to urgent family sickness on the last minute. Allan Jones, National Director and Chapter member, kindly stepped in at the last minute. Sam, a local Christian from Wigan, provided the musical back- ground, and ministry in song. As Allan spoke of his conversion to Christ, and of the many miracles of healing and deliv- erance that God had done through his ministry, the presence of the Holy Spirit could be tangibly felt . Strangely, two of the young waiters kept walking back and forth, picking up a small number of plates and cutlery at a time. Well, it was the only way they could get to be in the meeting, and hear the message! After the appeal, one of the guests made a commitment to follow Christ. Allan received several words of knowledge, which were confirmed by the recipients. Allan prayed for each of them. One lady had a very painful shoulder joint which she could not move. After prayer, she was able to move it freely without pain. When the meeting was over, one of the ‘wandering waiters’ asked for prayer, and gave his heart to the Lord! Some of the guests appealed for more Dinner meetings in the Leigh area. This pilot proved to be a success, and we look forward to holding more meetings in different areas around Wigan, with the Lord’s help and guidance.
