Our Masonic year is now more than half over as our Senior Warden (if elected) dili-gently prepares for the coming year. What are the keys to having a successful Masonicyear in the East? Well, there are many. First, the brethren must get along. Remember

the most valuable tenants of our institution: Friendship, Morality, and Brotherly Love.

The second is diligent preparation. As many Past Masters can confirm, this is no easy task. The key ideas are to have a well planned calendar, while increasing your Masonic knowl-edge and devoting time to our ritual. We must also be faithful to the lodge, the brethren andthe Grand Lodge. Planning the year early enables the lodge brethren to coordinate theirupcoming personal trips and activities around the lodge calendar. The Lodge calendar isaccessible in our indispensible Yearbook and online at our lodge Google Calendar whichyou can access through our up to date Lodge Website. By the way, the monthly Master'sVoice is now available on the lodge website as well.

The third and most important key is to have the support of the brethren, especially thosein the officer line. Over the next few months, our Senior Warden will be planning his linefor his year in the Oriental Chair. If you are interested in increasing your participation inthe lodge, I suggest you contact SW Klapinski. In addition to new brothers entering theOfficer Line, new Trustees and Foundation members will also be necessary in the comingyear. In one role or another, there is always a place for a brother wishing to be more activein lodge so let us know of your interest in participating. I urge everyone to get involved inthe lodge as much as possible, within the length of your cable tow.

The officer line consists of five elected members: Worshipful Master, Senior and JuniorWardens, Secretary, and Treasurer. There are nine appointed chairs in the officer line: Tyler,Chaplain, Marshall, Deacons, Masters of Ceremony, and Stewards. These appointed posi-tions are also extremely important to the strength and future of the lodge. In the electedline, progression is generally expected and anticipated. In the appointed line, the progres-sion can be just as important. It may take more than a decade before a junior officeradvances to be elected Worshipful Master of a lodge.

If you choose to become a Lodge Officer, what does this commitment entail? Simply put,in our lodge, the officer line meets six times per month: Three rehearsals, one DistrictLodge of Instruction, one Regular Communication meeting and one Degree night. In addi-tion, the officers are expected to attend our events and functions. This may constitute anadditional 2 or 3 days per month. Historically, our lodge also has an officer overseeing andmanaging each of our events. These, along with the learning of various sections of ritual, make up the officer commitment.

You are very important in keeping our lodge strong. If you are up to the challenge, it is goodto know what is to be expected. Remember that joining the line early helps to plan for thefuture. Be prepared for the question ‘If elected, will you serve?’

There is commitment and hard work required but the rewards to you are also plentiful.Your will learn much about leadership and team management and, over time, you will expe-rience your fellowship with the other officers blossom into lifelong friendships as theybecome part of your new, now extended, Masonic family.

Sincerely and Fraternally,

Brian Hartel, Jr.Brian Hartel Jr, WM

June started off with our annual Lewis Nightwhich was attended by 13 brothers this yearand held at Sal DeFortes Restaurant inEwing. DB Morris S. Fabian was our host forthe evening and, besides the usual and nowcustomary festivities, there was much dis-cussion about plans for the future of thissociety, now in its sixth year. The event wasBYOB but brother Fernandez did not knowthat HE was the one providing the wine forthe others until his bottle was quickly con-sumed in the first toast of the night!

The joint Gothic/TC5 Blood Drive inHamilton held in June unfortunately wasnot well attended by our lodge brethren andthe Worshipful Master would greatly appre-ciate your participation at the next jointblood drive this summer (see ad).

The Regular Communication featured ourannual Hawaiian Shirt Night. A competitionwas held for best Hawaiian shirt. DB JerryDonaldson won, resplendent in Hawaiianblue and PS Brother Dennis Duffy took sec-ond in his red and blue shirt and lea.

Later that week, our lodge was well represent-ed at the Table Lodge inToms River attended byMW Walter R. Kaulfers.WB’s Ed Clementson,Ric Fernandez, BrianHartel, Sr. and WaltStepek were also inattendance.

After a long absence, the Long FormProficiency was re-instituted by our previ-ous Grand Master and Brother David Nestle, raised at the June degree night, was the firstMaster Mason in our lodge to do his profi-

ciency in this manner. He was remarkable inhis knowledge and performance andwill prove a strong addition to ourlodge.

At the degree night, WB Bill Topley,Past Ritual Instructor for our lodge, long absent as he attends to familyduties, made an appearance and waswarmly received by his brethren.

We finished our month with our volun-teer duties at the MasonicHome which, as customary forour lodge, was wellattended.

Knocking at the Door

While the lodge does not meet during the summer months, it is still active and never really ‘goes dark’. Though the Memorial Day Parade was cancelled due to weather, the Famous Masons Float, prepared by Brothers Fabian, Jr. and Vecere, Jr. will get its chance for its debut during the 4th of July

Parade in Titusville! The following weekend, join us at our Lodge Flea Market on July 9th, from 8-1. Clear theclutter from your house, get a table, and sell that stuff. Afterwards, any leftover or unwanted items will becollected and donated to Goodwill. Reserve your spot now! ( see ad in this issue)

The trustees never have a down moment and July will feature the necessary seal coating and striping ofour parking lot. This will include a much needed repair to sections of the concrete walkway and drivewayapron around the lodge. Also. our lodge still seeks a tenant for the downstairs room to start to renting inthe fall. If you know of anyone interested, I encourage you to contact the Trustee's Chair, RW WalterStepek, as he continues to market the lodge’s rental space.

August 13th will feature our annual Trenton Thunder Game and Buffet. Seats are still available but hurryand get your tickets now! This event is open to friends and family (See ad). There will also be a BBQ forthe 2017 Officers at SW Klapinski’s home on August 26th to review his plans for the coming year. Thisevent is open to line officers and Past Masters as well as any lodge brethren who may be interested in join-ing the officer line or a committee of the lodge.

September also proves to be a busy month. Our Grand Lodge of Instruction will occur on September 20th.Rehearsals for the GLI will occur on September 8th & 15th, as well as during the month of August. Also,it appears we will have two or three candidates for the Entered Apprentice Degree on September 28th.

We will be hosting our fall kickoff event of Mini Golf and Pizza on September 23rd, followed by a boothto represent us at the Hopewell Harvest Fair on the 24th. Later there will be an announcement of thetheme for our Regular Communication on the 21st!

We have already begun to prepare for our fall events, as well. New this year, we will have a booth atLawrence Community Day. The Roast Beef and Wild Game Dinner is returning in October. Finally, fol-lowing the success of our Big Screen TV Raffle, we will hold another raffle with multiple prizes. This timearound, we will have three winners, awarding a Google Chromebook, a 32” TV and a TV StreamingDevice. Winners will be announced at our Annual Communication in December. W hen was the last time you satdown and counted your bless-ings? I consider a person who

cannot do this simple task, someone who hassimply never learned to add. Counting bless-ings, however, can be a complicated matter, requiring the satisfaction of multiple condi-tions. First and foremost, the thought must firstoccur.. Of course, to do this, you must stopwhat you are doing, including your worryingand complaining. When you do, you will havethe time you need to ponder, discover, recollectand establish those blessings; to be experi-enced, processed and, finally, allowed to flowover you in all their goodness. Without saying, this requires patience.

Blessings can truly add up. I start with suchthings as my eyesight, my heartbeat, my family, another sunny day, gas prices going down, saleof socks at Walmart… the list goes on and on.

Why do I write this? Simply because, despiteour sweetness, we are, most of us, ungratefulrascals, spoiled and selfish. We become blind toour blessings and thoughtless of the true hard-ships of life suffered by our neighbors. Weshould all take a personal inventory, whetherwe are big and strong, or not so; young or old;

wise or wise enough to know we are limited inour wisdoms. It is the basis of our fraternity torecognize and use our blessings to help othersless fortunate.

So, in place of prayer, counting your blessingscan be a perfectly reasonable substitute. Have agreat, and blessed, summer, get that calculatorout and start counting.

SEE YOU ALL IN SEPTEMBER!

Sincerely & Fraternally,

Tom WilsonJW Thomas D. Wilson
