The Challenger May 2013 In Ecclesiastes 4:9-12, the preacher who had lived long enough to understand something of the workings of this world delivers some wise words. In the New King James Version the passage begins with the statement "Two are better than one," and concludes with "And a threefold cord is not quickly broken." This is a scriptural way of saying that "there is strength in numbers" or "we can do more together than apart". It is, in fact, a strong affirmation of the reason Bryan Baptist Association exists! By the power of God and in submission to His leadership we can, do, and will, see eternal work done in and through our member church bodies. May is Associational Emphasis Month across the Southern Baptist Convention. I want to take this opportunity to thank you, the members of BBA, for your participation and support. It is a pleasure to work alongside you. We are, indeed, stronger together than we would be apart. May God continue to use us mightily in service to Him and His Kingdom until the day of Jesus' return! I love you all, Tim From the BBA Prayer Ministry Team Leader I read this article the other day and I’m lead to share it with our association. After reading, start praying for us pastors, that each of us will be this kind of praying man. The writings of Rev. E.M. Bounds (1835-1913) are essential reading for all who are serious about prayer. Only one of his eight best known books was published while he was alive: The Preacher and Prayer, later released as Power through Prayer. While written for pastors, it has application for all. Bounds declares: The character of our praying will determine the character of our preaching. Serious praying will give seri- ous weight to preaching. Prayer makes preaching strong, gives it unction and makes it stick... It cannot be said with too much emphasis, the preacher must be preeminently a man of prayer. He must learn to pray, and he must have such an estimate of prayer and its great worth that he feels he cannot afford to omit it from the catalogue of his private duties. His heart must be attuned to prayer, while he himself touches the highest note of prayer. In the school of prayer only, can the heart learn to preach. No gifts, no learning, no brain-force, can atone for the failure to pray. No earnestness, no diligence, no study, no amount of social service, will supply its lack. Talking to men for God may be a great thing, and very com- mendable. But talking to God for men, is far more valuable and commendable. The power of Bible preaching lies not simply or solely in superlative devotion to God's Word, and jealous passion for God's truth. All these are essential, valuable, helpful. But above all these things, there must be the sense of the divine presence, and the consciousness of the divine power of God's Spirit on the preacher and in him. He must have an anointing, an empowering, a sealing of the Holy Spirit, for the great work of preaching, making him akin to God's voice, and giving him the energy of God's right hand...(E.M. Bounds, Weapon of Prayer, Ch. 8., Prayerlessness in the Pulpit). Father, help me to be a preacher of prayer. In His Grip, Bro. Anthony Bryan Baptist Association

From the BBA Prayer Ministry Team Leader I read this article the other day and I’m lead to share it with our association. Spring is here and the camp grounds are really look-ing pretty thanks to the wonderful rain God sent to us. Larry and Carla Little will be back with us the first weekend in May.

I spoke with AD and Lee DeVore in early April. He is very appreciative of all your prayers. He is continuing to gain strength and asked that I thank everyone for their love and prayers. They are not going to be able to come this year. The doctors have not released him to travel.

We are looking forward to our Summer Missions Pro-gram and are praying for a very productive summer. We would love to see some local churches partici-pate in our day camp program.

May God Bless Each of You, Barbara Decker
