Kudos! On April 24th, Bailey Lake became

an Evergreen School… The Michigan Green School program through Oakland Schools top award.

From Our PTA President… Dear Bailey Lake Families,

Even though we were given some unexpected

extension, it seems nearly impossible that another school year is almost over.

This year, just as many years prior, Bailey Lake PTA worked very hard to

ensure that our children had a great time learning and growing. This work of bringing joy and lasting

memories to our students has also been recognized by Michigan PTA.

I’m very pleased to announce that our PTA has become a recipient of three State-wide recognitions.

Bailey Lake PTA is one of four local units in Michigan to receive Certi cate of Success award. It is also one of

two units in the state to qualify for Business Membership award. Participation and support of all our sta

allowed us to receive 100% Sta Membership Certi cate. As important as these awards are on their own,

they are also indicators of something much more signi cant – parents, teachers, and community working

together to bene t our children.

A big thank-you to our wonderful teachers and sta , PTA Board members, room parents, business and family

members, and those who continuously support BLE PTA events and activities. It was a great year!

FifthGRADE AT A GLANCE…Our Teachers:

Mr. BrazierMrs. KornasMrs. BarberMay and June are especially exciting months for our fth graders:• Having recently returned from a visit to

Sashabaw Middle School, where they selected their sixth-grade electives, the fth graders nd themselves eagerly anticipating and endlessly curious about middle school life (while simulta-neously cherishing elementary-only opportuni-ties like recess!).

• Our learners continue to off er public exhibitions of their academic prowess: Students shared their recently “published” persuasive essays during our grade-level-wide writing celebration (see photos). Students and sta members alike look forward to our always-popular Wax Museum, during which the students, informed by careful research, embody gures of historical importance.

• Also in 5th grade science we are studying Forces and Motion. In this activity, students are investigating the conservation of energy, potential energy and kinetic energy by constructing and analyzing a Come-Back Can.

• We’ll enjoy not one or two but three fi eld trips during the nal few weeks of school! We’ll head to…

(1) Oakland University for The Clinton River Water Festival

(2) Green eld Village to learn more about our country’s past

(3) Independence Oaks County Park for an all-day picnic on the nal full day of school.

BLE Jr. Optimists… Help Those In NeedWhen our BLE Jr. Optimists made a list of service ideas this year, #1 on the list was to help the City of Detroit. On April 26th, they accomplished that goal by assuring that about 200 people would go to bed without hunger that night.

They traveled down to Cass Community Social Services (CCSS) located in Detroit and worked in their kitchen preparing meals for

veterans, homebound and homeless individuals in the city. They did every-thing from making salads, spaghetti, chili, and rice to slicing and chopping 100 lbs. of potatoes! CCSS serves 20,000 meals per week with the help of volunteers. They also provide shelter,

a free medical clinic and job training/placement for those in need.

Our Jr. Optimists represented BLE well with their enthusiastic attitudes, hard work and good manners. CCSS was very impressed and grateful for their e orts. Way to go Jr. Optimists!
