GENERAL MANAGER’S NOTE

DeANNEHAMILTONExecutive Director/ General Manager

This year we’re celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Public Broadcasting Act. What our nation’s leaders recognized then, and what the act stipulated, was that “it is in the public interest to encourage the develop-ment of programming that involves creative risks and that addresses the needs of unserved and underserved audiences, particularly children and minorities.” At KBTC we have taken that to heart. Every day you can find programs with diverse perspectives and voices, whether it’s on our main channel, KBTC or MHz Worl-dview, NHK World or TVW. And beyond our air, we’re also re-imagining the role of media in the community through partnership work with Tacoma Public Schools, Tacoma Housing Authority and other organizations. In fact, we’re proud to announce that our historical documentary about the local impact of the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 has been nominated for a North-west Emmy. As part of our recognition of Asian Pacific American Heritage month, we’re airing the film again this month. You can find out more about the docu-mentary including lesson plans for educators and other resources on our website. Thank you for being our partner in this work! Your support helps make our work possible. Thank you. If you’d like information about any of the events or pro-grams we offer, please visit kbtc.org.
