QQueanbeyan Art Society Life Members Joy Joy and Derek Rogers Derek Rogers celebrated

their 70th Wedding Anniversary 70th Wedding Anniversary and it commands the lead story in the Society Newsletter. The couple have been an instrumental part of the QAS, Joy serving as Secretary and Derek the Treasurer over a number of years. Their dedication has helped the Society to become one of the most sought after in the Regional Art world. It is one thing to just sit on a committee and another to contribute in a way that will leave lasting rewards. Joy and Derek have been part of the friendly, welcoming ambiance the society has become renowned for. Special cards were received

from the QueenQueen, Chief MinsterChief Minster and Local MemberLocal Member and Joy read all cards with a rich English tone very much like the Queen. Two beautiful people who remain committed to one another and are healthy and happy!

OOUR front page story on Joy Joy and Derek Roger’s Derek Roger’s 70th Wedding Anniversary is a ‘Gem’.

Both are Life Members of QAS and have been a huge part of moulding our Society into what it is today. They both can be proud of their long relationship and their wonderful contribution to local art! Long time QAS member Sue Roger Sue Roger is moving north and I am sure many of her dear friends wish her well. Thank you Sue for your help in the many ‘jobs’ you did! At this stage we do not know what date the new $120,000 Gallery $120,000 Gallery will officially open but I am pleased the way it is going and happy with the builder Andrew PotterAndrew Potter. The work has been excellent. We will be using the extension before the opening to give it a test run and possibly improve something we may have overlooked. With the idea of having a Market operating with the QAS 11th Charity Art Show in City Walk, Canberra in September I would ask members c to contact the committee if they know of anyone who

might like to have a stall. What a pleasure it is to have four extra members join the QAS Committee this year. Most community committees have trouble filling

the positions!

A A family visiting Queanbeyan from Sydney saw the Queanbeyan Art Society art

displayed in the Queanbeyan Riverside Plaza in Monaro Street and contacted the QAS Gallery wanting to purchase a painting. A keen eye for the abstract, they

bought the QAS Abstract winning painting of Eric Eric Brookbanks Brookbanks ‘Korean Gate’. Going to the gallery to collect

their ‘window work’ they were excited to see the excellent Queanbeyan Leagues Club Exhibition hanging.

Sergey Balty’s Sergey Balty’s ‘Jiraf’ caught their eye and they took it back to Sydney. They vowed to view the next QAS Exhibition on their return to Queanbeyan, stating it is a gem of art.
