Worthy Knights of Columbus

It has been a wonderful experience these past two years serving you as your Grand Knight. It’s now time for another man to continue the work we’ve started for our 10-year old Council.

On that topic, Stephen Germann has offered to create our monthly newsletter and we will be electing a new Executive at our next General Council meeting, scheduled for the evening of May 22nd. If you feel the call to serve, you’ve got some time on Tuesday nights and feel you can make a difference in our community, I encourage you to make it known that you are willing to become a member of the Council Executive team.

Yours in Christ

David Fisher, Grand Knight

Worthy Brother Knights,

Please send your Programs Report/Updates to your Program Directors: • Church Programs John Casullo • Community Programs Tony Saturno • Council Programs Ron Civitarese • Family Programs Steve Germann • Youth Programs Mario Peluso • Pro-Life Programs Steve Germann Thanks again to all our Brother Knights who have worked hard in supporting our Council's events and programs. Please help out and be an active Knight of our Council! Vivat Jesus Rory Facca Deputy Grand Knight

Prayer for the Canonization of Father Michael J. McGivney

God, our Father, protector of the poor and defender of the widow and orphan, you called your priest, Father Michael J. McGivney, to be an apostle of Christian family life and to lead the young to the generous service of their neighbor. Through the example of his life and virtue may we follow your Son, Jesus Christ, more closely, fulfilling his commandment of charity and building up his Body which is the Church.

Let the inspiration of your servant prompt us to greater confidence in your love so that we may continue his work of caring for the needy and the outcast. We humbly ask that you glorify your venerable servant Father Michael J. McGivney on earth according to the design of your holy will. Through his intercession, grant the favor I now present (here make your request). Through Christ our Lord. Amen. (Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be.)

While it may appear that our donations are down over last year they actually are not. Last year you will recall that the Charity Committee received an additional $1,900 in funds from NOCKC to disburse. Removing the $1,900 from the equation we are up actually 5% over last year. Comments: Donations increased 5.0% over last year if the additional funds from NOCKC of 1900 factored out. Note: Today most of the charitable funds raised are now allocated to North Oakville Catholic Knights Charities Inc. (NOCKC) and distributed from the charity corporation in accordance with the governing Council SOPs. Fraternal year 2017/2018: As the new fraternal year is rapidly approaching it is time to start thinking about which charities the council will support. To that end a call for charity nominations will be made at our June General Meeting. The council’s nominations will be added to the donation requests received throughout the year and voted on in September. In addition, we have exciting news to share with you regarding our Bingo application. We have received approval of our Licensing Application from the City’s Licensing Officer. The next steps are to set up training with Delta Bingo and hopefully be set to start for July 1st. To that end we are still looking for volunteers to help out so here is another opportunity for all of us to get involved in charitable works! Thanks to the interim Bingo committee for all their hard work and support. The members included David Fisher, Rory Facca, Tony Saturno and Bob Dorey As Chancellor and Chair of the Charity Committee, I would like to thank the Council for its continued hard work to raise funds in support of our charities. In addition, I’d like to thank the members of this year’s Charity Committee for their assistance, direction and dedication! Your 2017-2018 Charity Committee: David Fisher, Rory Facca, Ron Kwapis, Lino Renella, Bob Dorey and Thomas Krueger Tony Zimbalatti, Chancellor and Charity Committee Chair Knights of Columbus Mary Mother of God Council 14446

2018-19 Council 14446 Executive Election

Election Process - from Section 6.01 of our Standard Operating Procedures: Section 6.01 Elections

a) The election of the elected executive officers for the next fraternal year will take place at the May general meeting. A Nominations Committee Chair will be appointed by the current fraternal year Grand Knight by the end of January of the current fraternal year. The Nominations Committee Chair will present a slate of candidates at the April general meeting prior to further nominations being accepted from the floor. The Nominations Committee Chair must canvass all the current elected executive officers by the end of February to find out if they wish to stand for office in their current position for another term of office. The current elected executive officers must advice the Nominations Committee Chair prior to the March general meeting as to his intentions for the next fraternal year. The Nominations Committee Chair will publish the elected executive officer’s election schedule in the March council newsletter asking all Brother Knights if they wish to run for office and to so advice the Nominations Committee Chair for which office he wishes to run prior to the March general meeting. Members of the executive are required to be in good standing (dues paid up to date) and must be a third-degree member by July 1 of the next fraternal year. DF: The above set of tasks has occurred.

b) The first item of new business at the April general meeting is the report of the elected executive officers slate of

candidates prepared by the Nominations Committee Chair followed by further nominations accepted from the floor. The Grand Knight will hand over the gavel to the Nominations Committee Chair to conduct the elected executive officer’s nominations process. The Nominations Committee Chair will report his prepared slate of elected executive officer candidates and will record each name at the top of a separate sheet of paper. Beginning with the Grand Knight Office nominations will then be accepted from the floor for each office separately with the names being recorded in order of nominations from the floor below the slate of candidates prepared by the Nominations Committee Chair. The Nominations Committee Chair will ask for nominations for each office three times; there being no further nominations he will then rap the gavel and declare the nominations closed. No seconders are required for nominations from the floor. It is best, but not absolutely necessary, if the nominator has permission from the nominee to be nominated. DF: The above set of tasks has occurred.

c) The list of nominees is to be published in the May council newsletter. Each nominee must indicate prior to the election that he is willing to stand for election and he must be present at the May general meeting to respond or send a letter or email to the Grand Knight indicating which office he is willing to stand for. DF: The above set of tasks has occurred. Here is the current slate of returning officer positions and further nominations as posted on our website www.kofc14446.ca:

• Grand Knight - Rory Facca (nom), David Fisher (nom), Tony Zimbalatti (nom) • Deputy GK - Rory Facca (incumbent verified), Steve Germann (nom) • Chancellor - Tony Zimbalatti (incumbent verified) • Recorder - Jim Eichenberg (incumbent verified) • Treasurer - Vacant Bob Dorey (nom), Ken Rossel (nom) • Advocate - Vacant Tony Saturno (nom) • Warden - Frank D’Aurora (nom) & Mesiton Rivera (incumbent verified) • Inside Guard - Gordon Rivera (incumbent verified) • Outside Guard - Lino Renella (nom), John Casullo (nom) • Trustee 2021 - Vacant

d) The first item of new business at the May general meeting is the election of the council elected executive

officers. The Grand Knight will hand over the gavel to the Nominations Committee Chair to conduct the elections process. The Nominations Committee Chair will make a motion and request a seconder to approve the

Page 7: May 2018 - UKnightuknight.org/Councils/Knight News May 2018_v5.pdf · Fernandes and Andres Lombo. KNIGHT NEWS, Council 14446 May 2018 Page 5 | 16 : ... At the 9 am Mass we had Ron

published list of nominees for the council elected executive officers. Beginning with the Grand Knight office the election is conducted one office at a time.

e) Nominations from the floor, duly motioned and seconded, are accepted and added to the bottom of the list for

each office in the order of being nominated from the floor. The Nominations Committee Chair will ask for nominations for each office three times; there being no further nominations he will then rap the gavel and declare the nominations closed. Starting at the bottom of the list and moving upwards the Nominations Committee Chair asks each nominee in turn if he wishes to stand for office. The Nominations Committee Chair strokes out the name of any nominee indicating he does not wish to stand for office. If only one nominee is left in contention he is asked if he accepts the nomination. If he does he is acclaimed and declared elected to that office. If more than one nominee is left in contention, then ballots are distributed to each qualified council member and an election is held for that office. The council Trustees examine and count the ballots and then declare the winner. At the end of the election process a further election will be held for any elected executive office not elected

f) If after the further election an elected executive office remains vacant this fact will be published by the

Nominations Committee Chair in the June council newsletter and an election will be held for the vacant elected executive office at the June general meeting.

g) After the election is complete the Nominations Committee Chair makes a motion and requests a seconder to

destroy the ballots if any exist. After the election for the elected executive offices has been completed the new executive officers are declared by the Nominations Committee Chair. The Nominations Committee Chair then returns the gavel to the Grand Knight.

h) The Installation of Officers ceremony will take place in the month of June of the current fraternal year with the

Grand Knight designating the date and time.

i) The Nominations Committee Chair will be the Immediate Past Grand Knight if available or a Past Grand Knight and will be appointed by the current fraternal year Grand Knight.

2018 MMOG Council Awards Dinner and Barbeque

The Awards and Recognition Committee (made up of SK and Brothers Bob Dorey, Brendan Saunders and John Murphy) have submitted nominees for the various Council Awards to the Grand Knight for his approval. These will be handed out at the Awards Dinner and BBQ which will take place on June 10 starting at 4 PM.

Brother Steve Germann is calling for some volunteers to assist with setup of tables and chairs, tablecloths, table settings, etc. at 2 pm on that Sunday. If a knight or two is able to help with some of the miscellaneous other tasks starting around 1pm, that would also be very helpful. Also a pair of helpers to make the salad is needed.

Cleanup could benefit from 4 helpers ... it's always pretty easy and fun. An evite has been prepared and will be sent as soon as we have the email addresses lined up.

Mission Statement Knights of Columbus are Catholic gentlemen committed to the exemplification of Charity, Unity, Fraternity, Patriotism and the defense of the priesthood. The Order is consecrated to the Blessed Virgin Mary. The Order is unequivocal in its loyalty to the Pope, the Vicar of Christ on earth. It is firmly committed to the protection of human life, from conception to natural death, and to the preservation and defense of the family. It was upon these bedrock principles that the Order was founded by Father Michael J. McGivney over a century ago and our Order remains true to them today.

Information regarding prayers should be directed to Grand Knight David Fisher at [email protected] (905) 617-0366 NOTE: Names have been removed from our active prayer list after appearing in two successive newsletters, unless an extension is requested through the Grand Knight. Also, our Grand Knight will be checking our website at: http://kofcknights.org/CouncilSite/prayers.asp?CNO=14446 for any new Prayer Requests each month to include in this publication. The website displays these prayer requests for up to one month and then they are hidden from public view. We ask that, before you submit prayer requests identifying individuals with health conditions, you obtain their consent and make sure that they are aware and okay with you posting something online that will be visible and discoverable to the public. Before posting your Prayer Requests, please consider the following: 1. Less is best - post only general and not specific information 2. DO NOT publish detailed, health related prayer concerns 3. Consider this, if you were ill or in the hospital, how much detail would you want released about your condition?
