A Word From Pastor Mike Sunday, May 12 is Mother’s Day.
In worship that morning at Cary Unit-
ed Methodist Church, we will pray a
prayer from our Book of Worship that
includes these words: “Loving God, as
a mother gives life and nourishment to
her children, so you watch over your
Church. Bless these women, that they
may be strengthened as Christian
mothers. Let the example of their faith
and love shine forth. Grant that we,
their sons and daughters, may honor
them always with a spirit of profound
respect. Grant this through Christ our
Lord. Amen.”
We give thanks to God for our
mothers. Some of you are fortunate
enough to have mothers who are still
living. You continue to look to them as
a source of love and wisdom. The
bonds between mother and child
change over the course of our lives
and they endure. For some of you the
roles have reversed and you now are
caregivers and providers for your
mothers.
Some of us are sustained and com-
forted by memories of our mothers
who have passed away. We look at
photographs or videos or simply recall
their faces and the sounds of their
voices in our minds. We remember
one-on-one conversations with our
mothers that made a lasting impact on
our lives.
The task of mothering does not end
when our children leave home. I ob-
serve my wife, Linda, interacting with
our adult son and daughter. I see and
hear the same devotion, love, sensi-
tivity, compassion and nurture that
has been evident since their birth.
I am amazed when I observe some
of the mothers of infants, children,
teens and young adults from our Cary
UMC family. Parenting requires so
much love, strength energy, patience
and endurance. I trust that we will al-
ways look for new ways to support
and encourage the mothers in our
midst.
God bless you,
Pastor Michael Ray Hickok

At the closing of our annual Rummage Sale
last March, UMW donated 10 boxes of
clothes and shoes for veterans in need.
Patrick Gleason, Chief of Voluntary
Service for the Department of Veterans
Affairs, wrote the following in his thank
you note to our UMW unit:
“On behalf of the Jesse Brown VA
Medical Center, I would like to take
this opportunity to thank you for the
donation made for the benefit of our
veterans. The time, effort and re-
sources you provided will enhance
our veterans’ lives. We especially
appreciate your awareness of the
need for service to our veterans.”
Thank You from Department of Veterans Affairs
Feed My Starving Children
When: Saturday, June 1 from 2 - 4 pm. We will meet at the church in the Narthex and
caravan to the FMSC site in Libertyville.
Every day, 6,200 children die from starvation but we can make a difference for these
children by volunteering at Feed My Starving Children. FMSC’s volunteer program of-
fers us the opportunity to share the love of Christ and see firsthand the difference we can
make in response to Christ’s call to feed the
hungry. We will be packing meals that will
be shipped to children that need it.
We need your help. We are compiling a book of memories to present to Pastor Mike and Linda and we in-
vite you to submit any pictures, written memories and well wishes to them. The deadline
for submission of the materials to the church office is Sunday, May 26, 2019. In addi-
tion, we will send them off with a financial parting gift. If you would like to contribute,
please make checks payable to Cary United Methodist Church (CUMC) with a notation
that it is for Pastor Mike. These can be sent to the church office or placed in the offering
plate. There is no deadline, but we would like to present the gift before Pastor Mike
leaves us on June 30 and assumes his new position at Crossroads of Faith United Meth-
odist Church Bolingbrook, IL.
Reminder: Pastor Mike and Linda’s Celebration Luncheon will be Sunday, June 9 2019
at noon in Fellowship Hall.

From the Desk of Pastor George. . .
“And I am certain that God, who be-
gan the good work within you, will
continue his work until it is finally
finished on the day when Christ
Jesus returns. Philippians 16 NLT
Dear Friends and Members of our
Church:
Greetings in the name of Jesus Christ
our Risen Lord and Savior!
Just before we celebrated Easter, we
were reminded of the last words of Je-
sus on earth when he was dying, “It Is
Finished.” It certainly looked like the
end. It looked as though it was over. But
maybe that was not just a statement of
fact, it was a statement of faith. He was
speaking to his Father God, that I have
fulfilled my part of the assignment in full,
now, I have total trust and confidence
that You who is my Father, whom I have
fully glorified on earth, will now finish
what you started which looked like the
end, in reality, it was only the beginning.
When it looks dark in your life, when
things are not going your way and when
your own thoughts of pessimism declare
a victory, it is time to make a u-turn, see
your present situation as the start of a
new destiny designed just for you. Per-
haps, you alone may not have been
able to carry on what you started on
your own, but with God’s risen power in
Jesus Christ, you can accomplish what
you never dreamed or envisioned for
yourself. Remember, you are a child of
God. Under no circumstances your rela-
tionship with God can bring an ounce of
defeat to you. Our God is the God who
begins and finishes his creation so we
can be a part of the resurrection story.
I hope you have had a great Easter.
And remember Easter continues now or
later. With Summer approaching we see
lots of green grass, flowers, birds and
soothing rains, let us look forward to
make our church a place from where
forgiveness through Christ will be pro-
claimed in its overall ministry. Let Easter
continue in our hearts! I am continuing
to enjoy serving you. In Wednesday
evening Bible Study, we have complet-
ed the Old Testament and are now in
the New Testament. I am enjoying
teaching each and every member of the
class. What a blessing!
If you have a Pastoral Care need,
please inform the office or call me or
Pastor Mike. We are here to serve you.
Let us together make our Church Great
Again!!
Your servant in Christ,
Dr. George E. David,
Pastor

A Special
‘THANK YOU’ Note
"The aim and final end of all music should be none other than the glory of God and the refreshment of the soul." JS Bach
THANK YOU Chancel Choir! Have
you thanked them? They worked very
hard this year praising and glorifying God
with you. The Choir has gotten much
stronger spiritually, musically, and artisti-
cally. Many have validated this from the
pew and in the choir. I am so very proud
of and grateful for their continued growth
and positive response, perseverance, ener-
gy, and dedication. It is a blessing to work
with experienced musicians, respectfully
and humbly desiring to learn and under-
stand that improving their music skills is
only giving God the best of what He has
given them..
The Staff Parish Relations Committee
hired me on 7/1/2018. I was given the
privilege of working with you as your
leader, with the grace of God and guid-
ance of the Holy Spirit, for which I am
grateful. I am fully aware of the challeng-
es we faced last year, and we are about to
adjust to more change. Let’s UNITE, MU-
SICIANS, not DIVIDE. Thus, says the
LORD, “Lo, I am about to create new
heavens and a new earth; The things of
the past shall not be remembered or
come to mind. Instead, there shall al-
ways be rejoicing and happiness”. Is. 65
We rejoice in the ensemble, individual,
and congregation that offers prayerful mu-
sic. We unite and support each other for
the Glory of God! The Chancel Choir
will be on Summer break after 5/19. I rec-
ognize the wealth of talent we have here at
UMC and invite you to participate in the
Gift Of Music. Contact me so we can
work together. Our Worship Services in
June will continue at 8:30 and 11 am. July
and August Services will be at 9 am. The
choir resumes in August. I invite you to
join us. Musicians Unite! Begin the New
Season with us !!
God’s Blessings to All, as we Go Forward
in Hope and Peace!
Kathleen W. Cizewski , Minister of Music

Endowment Committee
I bet you woke up this morning and the first thing you asked yourself was, does
CUMC have an Endowment Committee? After you poured your coffee the next ques-
tion you asked was, what is an Endowment Committee?
Objective of the Endowment Committee:
To oversee funds received by CUMC defined as funds from endowments, wills, entitle-
ments not including pledges or memorial gifts.
Our goal and objective is to educate CUMC members on ways to invest in our church
beyond yearly pledges etc.
If you have any questions for the committee, the members are listed below:
Sue Heizer, Tom Swider, Carl Wagus, Glenda Arnold, Bob Groos and Mark Peterson
Thank you,
Mark Peterson
Chairman

Nurture Team News
Saturday, April 13th CUMC hosted a wonderful Easter Egg/Craft Event. After
all, Jesus’ resurrection and the world’s resultant salvation is even better than
chocolate eggs. Salvation is certainly more awesome than a whole basket of
candy! In addition to hunting for eggs the children enjoyed a delicious Easter
cookie, participated in Easter and Spring crafts and best of all came together to
share fellowship in the Lord’s house. We hope the children that came to our
event will see Cary Methodist as a safe place that is filled with brothers and
sisters in Christ. ALLELUIA!
Thank you to all who contributed time and items to make this event possible.
