Totus Tuus (Totally Yours) St. John Paul II’s Papal Motto

Totus Tuus is a kind of religious camp in the home par ish. It is managed by dedicated young people reaching out to help young people to know their faith better. We are fortunate to have this opportunity in our Divine Mercy Area Faith Community from June 10-15. These young people spend the summer going from parish to parish helping our youth (grades 1-12).

Grades 1-6 will meet from Monday, June 11 through Friday, June 15, during the day. Grades 9-12 will meet in the evenings beginning on Sunday evening through Thursday, June 14. There is still time to sign up. Please consider sharing in this wonderful experience.

Please call Shauna Moldan or the parish office at St. Mary’s (794-4171) or Amy at St. Michael’s, Deb at Japanese Martyrs or Sr. JoAnne at St. Paul’s. I hope that many of our youth will take advantage of this opportunity.

Memorial Day

This Monday is Memorial Day. It is a day to remember all of those brave men and women who died defending our freedom. It is important that we pause on this day and give thanks to God for the gift they have been to us and our country and pray for the repose of their souls. We are recipients of their sacrifice and dedication. It is important that we teach our children to pray for them as well. These traditions are important.

I hope that many of you will decide to dedicate some time of the day for Mass. There will be Masses at St. Mary’s at 8:30 AM, St. Michael’s 8:30 AM and Japanese Martyrs at 10:15 AM. St. Mary’s and Japanese Martyrs will have ceremonies at their cemeteries following the Masses.

I hope that you will take some time to visit their graves as well.

Memorial Day is a good day to pray for all the dead. I know that we have November 2, as All Souls day, but the weather is much more conducive for visiting graves and praying for those buried there on Memorial Day.

Summer Time Memorial Day is traditionally the day that marks the beginning of summer vacation. This is a good time for all of us to take time to relax and enjoy our families, friends and neighbors. I hope that all will take a little time to pray more and enjoy the great outdoors which is such a great gift from God.

TOTUS TUUS (Totally Yours)

TOTUS TUUS a summer catechetical youth program that is being held at St. Mary’s, Sleepy Eye, June 10-15, 2018. For grade school children (going into grades 1-6), the program runs Monday-Friday, June 11-15,

9:00am-2:30pm. The day includes catechetical instruction, daily Mass, songs, games, and recess. For youth (going into grades 7-12), the program runs Sunday-Thursday, June 10-14, 7:30-9:30pm. The youthfulness and energy of the college-aged teachers is contagious! Registration will be available through your parish office, the church bulletin, entrance of church or from our AFC website (www.divinemercyafc.org). Cost is $20. Financial assistance is available, please call the parish office. We are in need of volunteers to make this program run smoothly. We need volunteers to provide daily lunches and evening meals (in your home), helpers during the grade school program (great opportunity for high school students) and adults to help during the evening program. Evangelization & Catechesis Committee Member

Please consider answering God’s call to serve St. Mary’s Catholic School, Sleepy Eye, on the Evangelization & Catechesis Committee. At this time there is one position open. Members need to be practicing Catholics,

attend Mass on Sundays and holy days, striving to grow in their faith and seeking a deeper relationship with Jesus as well as willing and able to attend the necessary meetings. The committee usually meets the second Tuesday of the month. If you are interested in serving on this committee, please submit your name for consideration by the E & C Committee and call the parish office at 794-4171.

Prayer Group - “In strengthening the priest you strengthen the

whole Church… Strengthen the priest and you strengthen the

whole foundation, you strengthen everything in the Church.” St. Michael’s Parish would like to create a group of women to pray specifically for Father Andy Michels as outlined in the Seven Sisters Apostolate. St. Michael’s School News Students and teachers are busy getting ready for the end of the school year. With only two weeks left, we are wrapping up lessons and finishing projects. It is hard to believe that summer vacation is almost here, but I know the students are excited. This past Wednesday, our students had the spring concert, entitled Americana, An Evening of American Music, the students performed five band selections, and six choir selections, including an number they students wrote themselves. Our kindergarten, first and second graders were able to go on their end of the year field trip this past Thursday. First, they attended Mass, then headed to Mankato to the Southern Minnesota Children’s Museum. Fun was had by all! The fifth and sixth graders also went on their field trip on Friday; the older grades were able to visit Harkin Store, Fort Ridgely, German Park and Vogel Field House. It sounds like they also had a great time.

Spring Church Cleaning

CCW Annual Spring Church Cleaning, Monday, June 4. Morning Session starting at 8:30 AM;

Evening Session starting at 6:00 PM. All women with last names Anderson through Madsen are scheduled to help, but any parish members are encouraged to help. Please bring a pail and a rag. Religious Education students may count this towards service hours.


Catholic United Financial Quarterly Meeting

Catholic United Financial quarterly meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 5th starting at

6:00pm with a sandwich lunch.

Memorial Day Mass and Cemetery Services

Memorial Day Mass and cemetery services will be held at the Church of the Japanese Martyrs on

Monday, May 28th at 10:15am. Coffee and rolls in the Church Social Hall following cemetery service. Everyone is welcome!

Please join St. Paul's Parish for a farewell honoring Sister JoAnne Backes on June 24,

2018. Mass will be at 10:30 AM with Bishop John LeVoir as celebrant. Open House is from 1-4 PM with a program at 3 PM. A luncheon will be served.

volunteering! We still need 2 people, individuals or a couple. Please volunteer to be co-chairman for our annual church

dinner. We can divide the work up so one person isn’t overloaded. This is our major fundraiser for the year. As of now Rory Kopischke and Linda Weber are the only 2 co-chairman. Even if you have been co-chair in the past, please step up and volunteer. Soon it will be time to start plans! Contact Sister JoAnne, Rory or Linda to ask questions. Volunteering is key to a successful organization!

Administrative Council Election Results: Darrell Platz was re-elected for another term and Connie Kelly was elected for her 1st term. Congratulations and thanks to them for accepting this responsibility. Also thanks to Doug Callanan who served faithfully for 6 years.

COMMUNITY INFORMATIONAL MEETING regarding BRICKSTONE MANOR and its FUTURE will be held at the COMFREY COMMUNITY CENTER on Wednesday, June 20th at 7pm. Included will be: Presentations about ASSISTED LIVING GUIDELINES. Tours and lunch at BRICKSTONE MANOR following the meeting. Please plan to attend!!

Council of Catholic Women Province Conference

If you have not registered for the Council of Catholic Women Province Conference in Fairmont, MN, on Monday and Tuesday, June

25th Anniversary to the Priesthood

Fr. Brian Oestreich will celebrate his 25th Anniversary to the priesthood on Saturday, June 16, 2018, at St. John’s Catholic Church, 421 Madison Avenue, Ortonville, MN. There will

be a 5:00 pm Mass with Bishop John LeVoir, followed by dinner. 7:00 pm street dance, bouncy houses for children, root beer floats, and beer garden. In lieu of gifts, donations are welcome to build houses in San Lucas, Guatemala. All are welcome!
