AS THE FATHER LOVES ME, SO I ALSO LOVE YOU.

For some time now, the headlines have been abuzz: Prince Harry will wed Megan Markle at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle on May 19th. All the pageantry and pomp and splendor of this great spectacle are certain to be watched by millions throughout the world. The horse-drawn, gold-lined carriage, Megan’s wedding gown, the historic beauty of the castle, the blaring of the trumpets, and the inspiration of the ancient liturgy.

All of it will be scrutinized in a riveting fashion by people from every walk of life. Why? Because it’s a love story. We become ecstatic over love stories. We can’t get enough of them.

Jesus loved love stories too.

The Gospel for this Sunday addresses the issue head on: “As the Father loves me, so I also love you.” This statement beautifully states the primary Gospel message. If we truly “get” this one statement -- “As the Father loves me, so I also love you” – then everything else becomes mere window dressing.

Look at all the Gospel stories – the prodigal son, the Good Samaritan, the woman caught in adultery, the washing of the feet, the cleansing of the lepers, the curing of the blind and the lame – all of these tell the same single tale: Each of us is graciously, eternally and infinitely loved.

As a result of this boundless love relationship that Jesus offers to each of us, he makes only one single request – the very same one he gave to his disciples: “This I command you: love one another.”

This Gospel gives us a sitting at the Last Supper in which Jesus is speaking to his apostles and in this liturgy Jesus is speaking to all of us. At the Last Supper, Jesus instituted this Eucharistic sacrament, washed the feet of his disciples and teaches them the commandment: “As I have loved you, you should also love one another.” In the Gospel account of the Last Supper, we find the entirety of the truth God wants us to know.

May you know the depth of God’s love for you, and may you share what you have been given.

Have a blessed day.

Survey for Knights of Columbus

On May 12 & 13, the Knights of Columbus will be conducting a survey of the Holy Spirit parishioners during the weekend Masses. The survey will be used to determine what we’re doing well, where we can improve and which events you would like to see. Surveys will be in the pews and we ask you to take a few minutes after Mass to complete them and drop them off in the baskets at the entrances. Thank you for your continued support.

Knights of Columbus Thank You!

The Knights of Columbus would like to thank everyone that purchased an Easter Lily in March. We sold 150 lilies, with 25 of them being donated to shut-ins. The funds we raised were used to support our Parish Youth Group and the purchase

of a new 60 cup coffee pot to be used for the many events being held at Holy Spirit.

Pentecost Sunday Mass & Pot Luck Luncheon

The 11AM Pentecost Mass on Sunday, May 20th will be celebrated by the Most Revered Salvatore R. Matano, Bishop of Rochester, followed by a Pot Luck Luncheon in the parish hall. All those attending the Pot Luck are asked to bring an entrée, side dish or dessert to pass.

Congratulations to our children who received their First Communion last weekend: Gianna, Joseph, Tyler, Molly,

Spencer, Sabrina, Margaret, Jake, Haley and Calvin.
