New Faculty Welcome to our new faculty members:

Marco Bijvank, Assistant Professor, OSCM Marco joins us from the Rotterdam School of Management, where he was Assistant Professor of Logistics and Operations Management. He holds an MSc in Business Mathematics and Informations, and a PhD from the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam “Service Inventory Management: Solution approaches for inventory systems without backorders” (2009).

Wei Wei, Assistant Professor, FNCE Wei joins us from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University, where he obtained his PhD in corporate finance (May 2014). He holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance. His interests are in capital structure, firm investment and financial constraints.

Mark Anderson has been appointed the Richard F. Haskayne, FCA Chair in Accounting. The Selection Committee included representatives from the Institute, industry, the faculty, and the VP Research and Provost of the University of Calgary. Mark’s term is for 5 years starting July 1st, 2014.

Allan Ingelson has been appointed editor of the Canada Energy Law Service, established in 1979, published by Carswell, Thomson Reuters, Toronto.

Awards

Diane Bischak received the Canadian Operational Research Society (CORS) Service Award. The award is “in appreciation for many years of dedicated and generous service to the Society.” It was presented at the CORS Annual Conference, Ottawa, on May 17, 2014.

Giovani da Silveira’s paper with co-authors Flavio Fogliatto and Maria Cristina N. Gramani, entitled “Exploring Relationships Between Human Capital and Internationalization of Supply Chains: An empirical analysis of manufacturers from Latin America and the Caribbean”, won the Honourable Mention at the 2014 International Supply Chain Management Conference, held in Edmonton, AB, on June 9-11, 2014.

Nominated by Haskayne for Enbridge Corporate Sustainability Award, June 2014 Xiaoyu is conducting research into the implications of corporate reputation in foreign direct investment entry strategies and corporate alliances for her thesis, under the supervision of Harrie Vredenburg.

Nadine Abousalem, Thesis-based MBA Student in E&I Queen Elizabeth II Graduate Studies Award Awarded May 2014 Nadine is co-supervised by Jim Dewald and Olga Petricevic. The focus of her research is strategic entrepreneurship.

Mahdi Ebrahimi Kahou, PhD Student in FNCE Nominated for an Eyes High Doctoral Scholarship ($12,000/year for one year) Nominated by Haskayne for the Marion Janet & Ian Stormont Forbes graduate scholarship, worth $7,000 for one year. Mahdi is researching optimal cross-border banking structure in the presence of systemic risk, under the supervision of Alfred Lehar.
