STILL LIFE (12A)

MAIDAN (12A)

DUKHTAR (TBC)

DELIGHT (15)

John May is employed to track down relatives of people who have died alone, so they can attend the funeral. When he is made redundant, he’s determined that, whatever it takes, he’ll succeed with his last case. This immensely moving film (bring plenty of tissues!) won prizes at Edinburgh and Venice Film Festivals and stars Eddie Marsan, with Joanne Froggatt (Downton’s Anna Bates).

Filmed in Kiev’s Independence Square in the winter of 2013/14, this compelling documentary chronicles the unfolding events of the Ukrainian revolution which ultimately led to the downfall of president Yanukovych, offering the people of Ukraine a brief moment of triumph.

This is a DVD screening in Oscars. Tickets £5.

Stranded in a remote Welsh village, a former war photographer’s intense love affair with a younger man propels her into exorcising the ghosts of her past. Starring Jeanne Balibar and Tim Dutton.

A post-film Q&A session follows with producer Fiona Howe.

This is a DVD screening in Oscars. Tickets £5.

When Allah discovers her beloved ten-year-old daughter is to be married off, she runs away with her, hoping to find shelter with her own mother in Lahore. This gripping, beautiful film is a thrilling road movie, a gentle love story, and above all a story of mothers and daughters which highlights the powerlessness of women in patriarchal societies. Dukhtar is Pakistan’s official entry for next year’s Oscars in the best foreign film category.

WHITE GOD (15)

SUITE FRANÇAISE (15)

CHILD 44 (15)

When 13-year-old Lili’s father throws out her beloved dog, he is picked up by unscrupulous chancers and trained up to be a fighting dog. With diminishing hope Lili searches for him, while coping with her own trials and tribulations. Then events take an unexpected turn as hundreds of dogs take to the streets of Budapest…

Based Irène Némirovsky’s novel, this is a portrait of a small town in occupied France, forced to host a garrison of German soldiers. Although collaboration is censured and betrayal a constant threat, a tender romance grows between Lucile and the German officer who is billeted in the house she shares with her frosty mother-in-law (Kristin Scott Thomas).

A gripping thriller set in Stalin-era USSR, based on the best-seller by Tom Robb Smith. When a child is found dead, investigations are blocked by officialdom, because in a communist state, a child murderer cannot possibly exist. Policeman Leo suspects a serial killer may be at work, and is determined to uncover the truth, whatever the cost... Starring Tom Hardy, with Noomi Rapace and Charles Dance.

WILD TALES (15)

FORCE MAJEURE (15)

WOMAN IN GOLD (TBC)

THE WATER DIVINER (15)

Set in Argentina, here are six wildly enjoyable tales of sweet revenge in which road rage, jealousy, the endemic corruption in Argentinian society and the wedding from hell all make an appearance. Black, satirical – and very funny. Ricardo Darin (The Secret in their Eyes) stars in one of the stories.

“Delicious, scary and scabrous...A terrific film and a real find” - The Guardian

Russell Crowe directs and stars as an Australian farmer who, when his three sons fail to return from fighting in WW1, sets off on a journey that will take him from the rugged beauty of the Australian bush to exotic Constantinople, and ultimately to Gallipoli where he is determined to find his boys and bring them home, dead or alive. Also featuring Olga Kurylenko.

A lovely skiing holiday goes horribly wrong when a spectacular avalanche threatens to engulf a family. Noone is hurt, but the father’s reaction in the moment of danger is less than admirable, and this revelation of character and attitude turns out to be far more dangerous to the family than the avalanche ever was.

The true story of Maria Altmann (Helen Mirren), a Jewish refugee who lost everything in the War, including the glittering portrait by Gustav Klimt. Determined to restore the portrait to her family, she joins forces with a lawyer (Ryan Reynolds) to take on the Austrian government, which is equally determined not to relinquish the priceless painting. This gorgeous costume drama stars Kate Winslet, Alan Rickman, Stanley Tucci, Matthias Schoenaerts and Helen McCrory.

WHILE WE’RE YOUNG (15)

FAR FROM THE MADDING CROWD (12A)

THE FALLING (15)

CLOUDS OF SILS MARIA (TBC)

Jamie and Darby (Adam Driver and Amanda Seyfried) are an achingly cool young couple who delight in everything retro. Conversely soon-to-be middle aged Josh and Cornelia (Ben Stiller and Naomi Watts) desperately try to embrace all things digital. There’s plenty of comedy to be mined as the two couples strike up a friendship which at first rejuvenates Josh; but can the generation gap truly be bridged?

A revival is planned of the play that made Maria a star in her early 20s, and she is invited to star again – but this time as the older woman who is seduced and then abandoned by her much younger assistant. As she rehearses the part with her PA., the line between life and art begins to blur…Starring Juliette Binoche and Kristen Stewart, with Choë Grace Moretz.

This new adaptation of Thomas Hardy’s novel stars Carey Mulligan as the beautiful, headstrong Bathsheba Everdeen who attracts the attention of three very different suitors: dependable farmer Gabriel Oak (Matthias Schoenaerts), dashing Sergeant Troy (Tom Sturridge) and prosperous bachelor William Boldwood (Michael Sheen). The question is, who will win her favour..?

It’s 1969, and at their all-girls’ school, Lydia and Abbie are best friends, despite their contrasting characters. Their friendship is already under strain when there’s an unexpected tragedy at the school, followed by a mysterious and unsettling epidemic of fainting among the girls. Starring Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones) and Florence Pugh, with Maxine Peake and Greta Scacchi.
