FOCUS

What will distinguish Cefla, the giant of coatingthat needs no introduction, at Xylexpo 2018?Easy to say: you will see "live" the creation of tex-tured digital prints using a "J-Print" machine with"myTexture" technology, a solution that deliversexceptional effects. Once again, the Imola-basedcompany will show the flexibility of its solutionsand what it means to "be an industry", reaffirmingthe decision - taken a few years ago - to exploreevery new coating option offered by research.

All supported by a strong claim, “Welcome tothe other side of digital printing”, which intro-duces the new horizons, in terms of innovation, ofdigital print, a “novelty” that Xylexpo visitors willbe able to touch with their hands, as mentioned. At the Cefla stand, business owners interesting inthe huge potential of digital print, will find a "J-Print" line in operation, creating an amazing em-bossed effect on any material. It's a high-definitioncoating, both visually and haptically, created bythe perfect register between the pattern linesand the matching relief. The embossing effect is achieved with the exclusivetechnology “myTexture”, developed by Cefla to-gether with Kuei, a successful partnership thathas gathered a team of designers and highlyqualified experts around the idea of creatinglarge formats with a surprising natural haptic sen-sation, visually synchronized with the sourcepicture (“E.I.R. Embossing In Registration”). Really an unprecedented solution that strikes withits high fidelity and endless creative possibilities, delivering so far unimaginable results to businessowners, architects, designers, with unprecedentedbudget. All of this combines with the potential ofdigital print in terms of customization of uniquepieces, with abrasion resistance levels that meetthe highest flooring standards, offering a revolu-tionary solution. This solution is a strong candidate for the Xiaaward for innovation, after Cefla won the sameprize in previous editions.

The Cefla stand at Xylexpo will also feature aspraying line equipped with “iBotic”, the top-of-

range spraying robot submitted to a significantperformance revision. iBotic is the perfect solutionfor the spray coating of items with different shapeand thickness (up to 180 millimeters), includingcurved faces, shaped profiles and complex un-dercuts. Such excellent result is ensure by theaction of numerical control interpolated arms thatmove according to the information acquired au-tomatically from the workpiece geometry. Leveraging 3D interpolation, “iBotic” executes anoptimal working sequence, following the contoursaccurately and keeping the spraying guns at anideal distance to achieve the best result. Automatic infeed detection provides an extremelyflexible solution also for small batches of differentparts.

Significant space will also be assigned to Industry4.0, an area where Cefla Finishing shows its fullpotential in terms of research and innovation. Thedevelopment trends of the solutions offered toenterprises are design, simulation, supervisionand control, efficiency improvement.

At Xylexpo, you will appreciate several benefitsoffered by solutions such as "cCloner", enablingthe simulation of complex production lines. Thistechnology provides the operator with a realisticand dynamic 3D vision of the process even beforethe production line is commissioned. “cCloner”also allows to interact with the production line insimulated mode (virtual reality) during operation,so as to identify process inefficiencies immediatelyand make the necessary corrections to achievethe expected values of efficiency, productivityand quality. There will also be “cTracker”, the line supervisorfor the control and real-time management of theentire production system that illustrates the lineefficiency level and "suggests" how to act toimprove it, minimizing non-productive phases. “Smart Contract” is the service that makes bu-siness continuity even more reliable and easy tomanage, leveraging the full potential of predictivemaintenance, while “cMaster” handles all moni-toring operations, thus keeping line producitivityunder control anytime and anywhere, also remotely.Xylexpo will also offer the opportunity to experiencevirtual reality by Cefla, wearing a VR headsetto dive into a production line and explore eachfunction, appreciating the effectiveness of solutionswith great realism.

Cefla Finishing is a global leader in coating, de-coration, digital print of wood and wood-basedmaterials, designing and manufacturing turnkey

custom lines. With the expertiseacquired over the years andadvanced know-how, the com-pany is a reference for finishingtechnology dedicated to glass, plastic, fiber cement, compositematerials and metal. Hall 3, stand A01-C14.

THE FUTURE OF COATING IS TODAY,

CEFLA’S HONOR!WIRUTEX, SEARCHING FOR RESULTSPatrizio Pasquini, business partner at Wirutex,a Pesaro-based company specializing in tool pro-duction, immediately offers an overview of thetopics of our conversation. He knows this companyvery well, since 2015 it has been controlled byBi.Fin srl, the holding of the Selci family andmajor shareholder of Biesse, and by himself, astory that began a few decades ago: “Wirutexwas established in 1980, when my brother Maurodecided to create a business specializing in theresale, maintenance and sharpening of tools. As it often happens, we startedfrom scratch, but we had ideasand skills, so the company beganto grow. I joined Wirutex in theearly Nineties, initially dealingwith sales operations, then moreand more involved in technicalmatters and in the problems pre-sented by customers who metme and asked to find a solution with our engi-neers. That's where I found my real vocation, and little by little, I took over the role of researchand development manager and I also acquireda small share in the company. In those years wetransformed the business and started to manu-facture tools…We went on until recently, in 2012,when my brother decided to dedicated himselfto new challenges and left the company in myhands. Definitely a big challenge in tough years, with decreasing demand, revenues reduced by50 percent, all but encouraging perspectives…that's when I decided to discuss with GiancarloSelci. Biesse accounted for 50 percent of ourrevenues: he was our reference customer, withwhom we often developed special tools".

Expected revenues are close to 4 million euroin 2018, with 35 employees and 40 percent ex-port share. The story of the company is characte-rized by a few technological milestones such asthe first patent deposited in the mid-Nineties,“Eco-Tools”, the first hogger for squaring-edge-banding lines with interchangeable Pcd inserts,a real winner in those years when "fragile" diamondwas applied to panels that were not “perfectlysmooth and consistent”… It was the first Wirutexpatent, but most of all it was a concept thatshifted the focus of the company from maintenanceand sharpening to manufacturing. It was the be-ginning of a new story built on "diamond".

“The processing of Pcd, diamond or polycrys-talline, whatever you call it, has always beenour vocation: we have taken this direction togive high-level responses to the industry, toparticleboard transformation, to Mdf. We havebrought forward a powerful technological evo-lution, even in the toughest years, when entre-preneurs often paid more attention to price thanto the results or to the contribution that wecould give to the quality of the entire process. This decision has always paid back. In the pasttwo years, I have been making one of mydreams come true, namely have the right com-petence for each type of tool. So, today, Wirutexdesigns and manufactures also Hm, hard metal, tools, because I believe the market will neverstop requesting them; in a short time frame thisproduct category has achieved a 32 percentshare of our revenues... Our customers achievegood results in terms of speed and final quality. We have a complete offer, and this will be ourkey message at Xylexpo 2018, where we arepresenting our most interesting solutions”.

Mr. Pasquini, let's go back to your meeting withMr. Selci…“I have to say that he was quite doubtful initially:he wondered why he should be involved insuch a small business and I told him that Iwanted to create new opportunities, that I hadideas I could not develop alone… I think he

was convinced by my great passion. Passionand competence are essential valuesfor an entrepreneur, and Selci knowsthat very well. For me, it was essential tothink that machines and tools had tolive together, support constant knowledgetransfer, know-how, interaction… Ulti-mately, I convinced him and he decidedto become part of our story himself. Weare not a Biesse group company, let me

say it clearly: we are an independent businessthat enjoys huge benefits from having GiancarloSelci among its business partners, holding a51 percent share, but we operate with a clearstrategy and full independence".

Was it a major change?“Mr. Selci has helped us think bigger, committingto obtaining certifications and investing in moreperforming and safer technology. We have reallyturned our business inside out, increasing qualityand efficiency exponentially. We have alsostarted a collaboration with Diamut, the Biessecompany that produces tools for stone working,we execute a series of operations for them…”..

What about the future of tools?“Equipment manufacturers have finally realizedthat tools are an integral part of machines, theyare a key element. This leads to valuable col-laboration, often resulting into the creation ofspecial tools, made to measure, which in ouropinion will always be an essential part of ourjob. Making tools means taking a big numberof factors into account, from the type of machineto the habits of operators, from the material tobe processed to the quality of the finishedproduct. It's almost impossible to solve thisequation with a standard tool "from catalog",and in this respect, the big investments wehave made in technology are really helpful. Weare working intensively on the "weight" of tools,on the use of specific materials, on the devel-opment of new and more effective mechanicalfixing systems”.
