RESPECT-HONOR-STRENGTH
From the Desk of Mr. Hackbusch
Thank you to the families who have completed the online registration
process. We still have many families who still need to do this.
Remember, we cannot issue schedules nor confirm your student(s) are
attending with us next year without this step being taken. Log in to
your Infinite Campus Parent Portal and click your inbox. There will be
instructions for you to follow. If you need help or access to a computer,
please call 333-5050 and one of our support staff members will happily
assist you. Please dont forget to take the Parent Climate Survey! It
can be found on the WCSD Homepage.
Fees can be paid beginning May 1st and the deadline to pay your fees is
June 19th.
We survived the ACT Exam and I would like to thank our staff, parents
and our students for their flexibility that day. We now move into the
End of Course Exams, the HSPEs and AP Testing this month. Please
refer to the Testing Schedule posted on our website and attached to
the emailing of this newsletter for more details.
March Madness was a huge success this year. I want to thank Mr.
Murdock and the Eldorado Hotel and Casino for their continued
support. We want to thank our 4th period classes for their creative
silent auction baskets. They were awesome! I also want to thank our
Committee led by Mrs. Feroah. Finally, we want to thank our AAA
Parent Group for their support. We made a little more than $40,000
which will go toward the renovation of our College and Career Center.
We will modernize the room into a Cyber Caf. Our upperclassmen will
have access to a state of the art, student-friendly College and Career
Center with flat screen TVs, sitting areas, coffee station, study areas
and the latest technology to research college and career opportunities.

Our Leadership Program led by Mrs. Edwards and Mr. Naughton were recognized with the 2015 National Gold Council of
Excellence Award for an exemplary record of leadership, service and activities to improve school and community. I am a little
biased but I believe we have the best Leadership Program in the Nation! Great job Huskies!
Gaby Verdin is being highlighted as our Countdown to Graduation Senior representative by the WCSD Communication
Department. Her individual story will be highlighted with peers from other schools this month as we march forward o graduation!
Congratulations Gaby!
Mrs. Sue Rodriguez, our Red House Project counselor (among many other duties and responsibilities) was awarded The Regional V
Career and Tech Ed Counselor of the Year. This is a huge honor and means she is in the running for the national award announced
in New Orleans later this year. We are extremely proud!
Speech & Debate: The following students will be competing at the National Tournament in Dallas, TX this summer: Mason Allard,
Karla Burcham, Kendall Cox, Miranda Cross, Heather Foster, and Taylor Pittman
Ariyani Challapalli won the Regional Lions Club Speech Contest and will be competing at the State contest on May 2. She also
won the Harvard Book Award this year!
Congratulations to both Chorale and Vocal Motion, our two honor choirs at Reno High. At the recent Northern Nevada Choir
Festival, they both received the highest scores they have ever gotten under my direction - 91.5% for Chorale, and 96.3% for Vocal
Motion. These are truly outstanding scores and reflect all the hard work these students have done.
FBLA Wins State with 529 points with the next best team earning 299 points. Reno HS had 20 individual state winners!

Clean water has arrived in RENO HIGH SCHOOL. We have our first of hopefully many Hydration
Stations. Bring your water bottles, save the landfills and stay healthy HUSKIES!
Our Junior Interview Project was a major success. Over 75 community volunteers conducted mock
interviews with our junior class. English and Social Studies teachers assisted the students with their
preparation as well as Mrs. Lerude and our Triple A Committee led by Mrs. Sharon Beesley. We received
media coverage from Channel 2 and the students looked wonderful!

YEARBOOK
General Information for the end of this year We have two distribution dates in May. Students MUST HAVE PHOTO ID to pick up a yearbook.
Our first event will be the Seniors-Only Distribution Event. There is no charge for this event. ONLY seniors may pick up
their books LUNCH & 7th periods and after school until 3:00 from GB7. Students are to remain quiet since classes are still going
on during this time. A-M last names at the door nearest to the exterior of the school and N-Z last names at the door nearest to
the center of the school. The date for this event is Thursday, May 21. While parents with ID may pick up their own students
books, no student will be given any other students book for any reason during this event.
Our second event is open to all students, and it will be in the school cafeteria. It is Friday, May 22 from 2:15-3:30.
While parents with ID may pick up their own students books, no student will be given any other students book for any reason
during this event. We realize that these dates may conflict with work/bus schedules, so for those students who cannot attend
either event, the remaining books will be available May 26-June 5 in the Finance Office (by the Dome) before school, during
lunch, and after school (not between or during classes).
2015-2016 Information:
If youre already thinking about next year (which is coming sooner than you think), plan ahead and buy your yearbook
early for best pricing. The books are sold in August & September for a discounted price of $85. In October-January 15, the
regular price of $95 is in effect. After January 15, a late fee is added for a total cost of $105. If you want to make payments,
please see Barbara Herman in the Finance Office to set up a payment schedule. You may purchase books online through the
www.rhshuskies.com website by following the R store tab or going directly to http://webstores.activenetwork.com/school-
software/reno_high_huskies_we/ .
Yearbook-Information for the class of 2016 (and any others graduating early)
Senior Portraits Lifetouch-Prestige Portraits is the contracted photographer for Re-Wa-Nes senior portrait section. While you may
elect to have another photographer take formal and informal portraits to give to family and friends, to get your senior tux or
drape photo in the yearbook, you must make an appointment with Lifetouch-Prestige during the summer months. Please
call 851-0444 to schedule your appointment early- before you get tan lines or sunburns. Early appointments also help you get your Diapers to Diplomas spaces in on time. Our production schedule for yearbook pages has
changed from previous years, and all senior photographs must be shot before October 3, or your senior cannot be included in the reference section panel pages. If the student does not meet Lifetouchs schedule for proof
selection, a photo will be selected for the student, and no changes will be made to that selection.
Diapers to Diplomas (D2D)
Deadlines will be coming up faster than you expect, so plan ahead and start choosing which childhood pictures youll
want included. Senior portraits must be provided to us to complete the space NO LATER THAN OCTOBER 23, 2015 to avoid
late fees. You can make payments of 50% upon placement and 50% upon proof receipt. Please make sure you ask to make
payments when you turn in your materials to us.
All D2D materials MUST be brought in at the same time- if all materials are not together, we will place the materials
aside (we will not hold pages or locations) until the person placing the space completes it. If materials are not all in by the due
date, the space will be considered late and will not be placed until the late fee is paid in full.
-
We will accept late items or spaces turned in until Friday, November 13 (regardless of reason- no exceptions or late
fee waivers will be made) for a $160 per full-page late fee. (Late fee prices will be: $105 for 1/8 space, $205 for space, $405
for space and $810 for full-page space.)
Please do not send us photos in excess of the indicated number allowed for each space. We do not want to decide for
you which pictures to use and which to leave out. Take a moment, review your choices, and send us only the same number of
pictures as there are available in the layout you have selected. Do not ask us to place a vertical picture in a horizontal space (or
vice versa). If you provide a picture that doesnt fit in the assigned location, we will place a hold on the space until that issue is
corrected by the parent or student. If this hold exceeds the deadline, a late fee will be added to the price.
Check your mailbox and the Reno High School website for information on deadlines, prices, and layout options. Make
sure you update your address information with Reno HS, since the address files we have at school are the only addresses we
use for mailings.

FROM THE VISUAL ARTS DEPARTMENT:
Eight Reno High School arts students and two of their teachers traveled to the Nevada States Legislature on May 22nd to talk to some of the legislators about the importance of the arts and in particular arts education. Unfortunately the Assembly was not in session the day we were scheduled to visit, but these students made the most of their visit by locating some of their area representatives to speak to them in their offices and then during a luncheon given by the Arts Advocates of Nevada, took advantage of an empty microphone to address the attendees with spontaneous, heartfelt illustrations on why the arts are particularly important to them as a part of their education, mode of thinking, and understanding of the world and their futures. It was IMPRESSIVE.

Retirements and Staff Changes
First let me send a Reno Huskie farewell to John
Heywood, science teacher, who will be retiring at the
end of the year. John has been a big part of our
Science Department for many years. Good luck in the
next chapter of your life!
Farewell to Christine Bonine who retired from WCSD
prior to Spring Break this year. She moved to
Louisiana with her husband and former NIAA Director
Eddie Bonine.
We would like to thank our wonderful Parent
Involvement Facilitator, Fabiola Doyle, for her hard
work and dedication this year. She will be relocating
to California at the end of May.
Good Luck to Will Harper, one of our Special
Education teachers. He will be changing jobs and
teaching with North Star Online school next year.
We will miss special education one-on-one aide Elsa
Taylor next year. She has always been a very
valuable part of our CLS classroom and Special
Education Department. She will be finishing up a
degree in nursing next year.
Thank you and good luck in the future to Steve Havel
and Armando Gonzalez. Both young men came in
and completed their student teaching and then
became paid interns. Steve filled in for Mrs. Bonine
and Armando replaced Mrs. Vanderpool. Both
individuals did a great job and I have no doubt they
will be hired soon in our district.
Hiring Process and New Huskies
We recently had the opportunity to hire a new math
teacher for next year and we are proud to announce
Laura Worrell will be joining our math department
next year. Mrs. Worrell comes to us from McQueen
where she has taught over 15 years. Her talents and
expertise are a welcome addition to an already strong
department. Welcome Mrs. Worrell!
We have also moved Mr. Schott from Social Studies
to full-time in Special Education. He will assume Mr.
Harpers position as a resource teacher and
interventionist. Mr. Schotts energy and background
as a special education teacher at the Re-engagement
Center previously made him a natural fit for this
change. Thank you Mr. Schott for stepping up!
In the coming weeks we will be hiring for Science, .5
Social Studies, .5 Special Ed Resource and for an
interventionist position. We will also be posting a
full-time grant funded bilingual parent facilitator
position this summer. In our Athletics Department
we are hiring for our Varsity Girls and Boys coaching
positions and our Head Cheer Coach. Get the word
out if you know of good applicants. We will share our
new hires with you soon.
