A host of events included the Baby Contest, Movie in the Park, Cannon Blast, Sunrise Service, Lions Club Breakfast, 5K Run/Walk, Volleyball Tournament, 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament, Golf Tournament, Parade, Booths/Concessions in the Park and capped with a spectacular fireworks display on Friday evening. We sincerely appreciate those who planned and helped with these events to make Riverdale Old Glory Days a resounding success. Thank you! CELEBRATION OF COMMUNITY BANDS On Wednesday evening, July 24 th , the Riverdale City Band, along with three other community bands performed at the new Barker Park Amphitheater in North Ogden. The event was hosted by North Ogden City and is the first of what they hope to be an annual event. There is no admission charge for this enjoyable evening! The Riverdale City Band performed in a superb manner and represented our city well. We are very proud of our band and the “home town” feeling and excellent music they provide. We love our band! BUSINESS / DEVELOPMENT UPDATE The Riverdale Gordmans Store recently had a Grand Reopening Celebration held on July 25 th . As you know, Gordmans announced, a couple of years ago, they would be closing many of their stores and it appeared the Riverdale Store would be one of those involved. With some restructuring, the Riverdale Store remained open. So far, in 2019, Gordmans has opened 74 stores, with more coming. The stores have an updated inventory, lower pricing, and they are doing well nationwide. The Chevron building on the corner of 300 West and Riverdale Road will be torn down in the near future to make way for 2-3 new businesses, one of them expected to be a Starbucks. The property to the north and east of the Krispy Kreme store is currently being planned for development as part of the Riverdale Landing project. You will probably see some construction on that property as early as next spring. Hope you are having a good summer. School and fall are just around the corner. YOUTH INVITED TO JOIN

All youth ages 14 - 18 are invited to join the Riverdale Youth City Council (YCC). This is a wonderful service organization that plans and participates in a variety of projects within the city. If you are interested, contact Rich Taylor at 801-621-6084.

Kick-off meeting: a YCC kick-off meeting will be held on August 10th at 12 p.m. at the Community Center. Join us for pizza and drinks and come learn about what the YCC is and what it does.

CITY HOLIDAY SCHEDULE

All Riverdale City buildings will be closed for the Labor Day holiday on Monday, September 2nd.

Garbage and recycling pickup will be delayed one day this week due to the holiday. It will take place on Thursday, September 5th.

POPSICLES WITH THE PRINCIPAL

The “Popsicles with the Principal” activity has been rescheduled for August 12th. This activity will give students of Riverdale Elementary an opportunity to meet the new principal, Lindsay Baird. It will be held at Riverdale Park from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. at the large pavilion near the splash pad.

FIRE RESTRICTIONS

Fire restrictions continue to be in effect in public places along the Weber River corridor, including the trail system within city boundaries. The restrictions include no open fires, no open flames, and no cigarettes. The restrictions are enforced year round. A map of the restricted area can be viewed on the city website at www.riverdalecity.com.

5K & HALF MARATHON

The Bonneville Communities That Care (BCTC) is holding a 5K & Half Marathon - The Path to Opioid Prevention. This event is designed to create an awareness and help put an end to the opioid epidemic in Utah.

The race will take place on Saturday, August 17th at 7:00 a.m. beginning at the Riverdale City Offices, 4600 South Weber River Drive. Awards will be given and finishing medals will be given for the first 100 finishers.

Participants can register and learn more by following the link on the BCTC Facebook page, www.facebook.com/BonnevilleCTC.

CERT TRAINING SCHEDULED

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) trains citizens to assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members are also encouraged to take a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community. The next CERT training class will begin on September 19th . The class will meet weekly through October 10th from 6:30-9:30 p.m. There is an online portion that needs to be completed before the in person training begins. The class is being conducted by Weber County and will be held at the Fremont High School. If you are interested, more information is available on the city website, www.riverdalecity.com or go to http://www.webercountyutah.gov/sheriff/homeland/cert_reg.php to register for the class.

SWIM PARTIES

The final summer swim parties of the year will be on August 7th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and August 15th from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Riverdale City has rented the Roy Aquatic Center exclusively for Riverdale residents to swim for free (show I.D. at the gate). The Aquatic Center is located at 2977 West 5200 South in Roy.

INTRAMURALS

We will be playing Ultimate Frisbee / Football for the next intramural session for children ages 6-12. Sign-ups start on August 19th. The session runs August 26th – September 26th. Come join us, it will be a lot of fun! Sign up online at www.riverdalecity.com or come by the Riverdale Community Center.

START SMART BASKETBALL

We will be starting registration for our Smart Start basketball program August 26th. Smart Start is a basketball program for children ages 6 & 7 years old. We will be teaching the kids the rules and basic skills of basketball. It is a very fun and beneficial program. A parent is encouraged to be present to help their child through the program. If your child wants to play basketball, this is a great class for them to take. This program will run September 10th - October 17th. Cost is $25 for residents. Sign up online at www.riverdalecity.com or come by the Riverdale Community Center.

GROUP FITNESS

Group Fitness registration starts on August 1st . The next group fitness session runs August 26th – October 18th. Please look for information on our website, www.riverdalecity.com, for the class schedule and registration.

YOUTH CO-ED FLAG FOOTBALL

Flag Football Registration closes on August 5th. After August 5th those wishing to play will be placed on a waiting list and a $10 late fee will be applied if registered. If participants have a jersey from a previous year they do not need to purchase a new jersey. Otherwise jerseys can be purchased for $10 at time of registration. Grade divisions are:1st/2nd , 3rd/4th, 5th/6th, 7th-9th. Games will be played at Riverdale Park and Golden Spike Park starting in September. Registration can be done online at www.riverdalecity.com or at the Community Center. For more information call 801-621-6084. Volunteer coaches are always needed. You may sign up to coach when you register your youth. A background check is required for all volunteer coaches.

PICNIC IN THE PARK SCHEDULED

Plan on joining us for our annual “Picnic in the Park” on Friday, August 23rd at noon. The event will be held in the Riverdale Park large bowery. Lunch will be served for only $3.00. Entertainment will be provided by the musical group Stampede. There will be no lunch served at the Senior Center that day.

HAND CRAFTED ITEMS NEEDED

The Senior Center is in need of hand crafted items for the annual Senior Center Fall Sale. If you have items that you can donate, please drop them off at the Center. The sale takes place at the Center from November to December.

SENIOR OF THE MONTH

Our Senior of the Month is Tilley Mutsaers. Tilley was born and raised in Tilburg Nederland until she was 15 years old. After moving to the US she attended St. Joseph high school and then graduated from Ogden High School. She married and raised four children. In the 80’s she began work as a Steel buyer. She has owned and operated several businesses; jewelry shops, consignment and antique shops. Her greatest joys are her 9 grandchildren. She enjoys camping, gardening, sewing, and traveling. She is a volunteer at the Senior Center and Ogden Regional Hospital. She enjoys yoga and all her friends at the Senior Center. Her favorite motto is “Life is Good!”

Lunch is served at noon weekdays for seniors 55 and older for $3.00.
