Happy New Year!! I hope everyone had a wonder- ful and safe Holiday. In the midst of that crazy time of year it is nice to remember those less fortunate, those who are serving our country and the true meaning of the season. It is a great time of year to look out- ward and serve those around us. With the start of 2015 along with the many ads for tread- mills, and plastic totes to store all the of the stuff we don’t use anymore it is a great time of year to not look back but look forward to the future. In West Point 2015 will be a year of change. The biggest and most exciting change will be the con- struction and opening of the Smith’s Marketplace. It will also be a year with major road con- struction as we start the widen- ing and improvement along 3000 West from 300 North to 1300 North. With this con- struction project we will also construct three new round- abouts at 550 North, 800 North and 1300 North. I have been Mayor now for six years and in that time I have had a chance to interact with other Mayors and City Councils throughout Davis County. Dur- ing this time I have had one im- pression hit me over and over again. We are very lucky in West Point to have the people we have serving on our city council. I have said this to as many who would listen to me, but we have the best, most ex- perienced city council in North- ern Utah. Just doing quick math I believe our five current council members have a combined ten- ure of 45 years of service on just the city council alone. There is not a doubt in my mind that West Point City is so lucky to have these five individuals with all their experience serving right now in our great city. Each and every one bring a level of experi- MAYORS MESSAGE JANUARY 2015 City Council Meetings: 1 st & 3 rd Tuesdays 6:00pm Administrative Session 7:00pm General Session Planning Commission Meetings 2 nd & 4 th Thursday 6:00pm Administrative Session 7:00pm General Session ence that is void of any hidden personal agendas which is a huge asset to our city and is so unique in city government. I have learned so much from these five men and I can tell you without any doubt that each one of them have left the city better than they found it. I appreciate their ser- vice and dedication to making our city the best around. I am honored to represent such a fine community. I wear the title of Mayor with great pride as I represent such a wonderful group of people and a place I have called home my entire life. Change is most certainly coming with the addition of our first large commercial project. I give you my word that I will work tirelessly with our great council to make sure we continue to make decisions that will enhance and benefit our city for years to come. I encourage any who would like to see our great City Council in action to attend our city council meetings on the first and third Tuesdays of each month. For the most part we usually see very few people out- side of high school students who have to attend for their grade and some of our fine scouts who are working on their citizenship in the community merit badge. You can also stay up to date by visiting our website, twitter ac- count and Facebook 2015. We have some great and exciting things coming in 2015 along with some great events so stay tuned to those different social media outlets to make sure you can take full advantage of the activi- ties we offer each year. If you don’t participate in the City’s General RecyclingProgram, there are some great reasons to start:

*In the United States trash is produced at a rate of1,609 lbs per person per year.

*If all of our newspapers were recycled,we could save about 250 Million trees each year.

*For every ton of paper that is recycled we save 3.3cubic yards of a landfill.

Look how long it takes for the following items todecompose…

Aluminum Can-80 yearsGlass bottle-500 yearsSoda bottle-700 years

Styrofoam-Never

Recycling only costs $4.75 per month. Please call City Hall to get started!!
