student success storiesTodd Reeves ’04 Director, Office of Engineering Professional PracticeUniversity of Tennessee—Knoxville

“I graduated with my bachelor’s and master’s in mechanical engineering from TTU. I chose the Tennessee Tech MBA program because, at the time, it was the best fit, as well as the best overall value for me economically.

The MBA degree gave me the business tools, the marketing tools, and the leadership tools to succeed in my current role. Though I am working in higher education, rather than business, my engineering background gives me credibility with students and faculty, while the things learned acquiring my MBA helps enable my overall success in leading the engineering co-op program.”

Concentrations in the MBA programAccountingThe accounting concentration is specifically designed for students who wish to sit for the CPA, and can fulfill one year of the CPA experience requirement. Students in the accounting concentration will take four required accounting courses and six common core courses. Additional prerequisite requirements for the concentration include 6 hours of Intermediate Accounting, 3 hours of Cost Accounting, 3 hours of Tax Accounting, and 3 hours of Auditing.

FinanceThe finance concentration is designed to meet the specialized knowledge base required by students. With courses in corporate finance, investments, international finance, and insurance and risk management, the student will be able to select courses that will enhance their ability to perform both in their current position and in future, desired positions.

human resource ManagementBecause the strategic value of the human resource function is not emphasized in undergraduate business programs, the TTU MBA program is an ideal place to offer such instruction. The human resource management concentration provides education on the strategic importance of competent human resource management and the opportunity for students to complete professional certification exams.

International BusinessIn the increasingly global economy, many graduates seek employment in the field of international business with a goal of working abroad in a variety of countries and cultures. This type of employment requires graduates to have specialized knowledge of the unique economic, cultural, political, and social differences among countries and how these affect business practices relative to general business practices of firms operating in the United States.

Management Information systemsThe management information systems concentration provides students with a focused study of several important subjects in the current business information technology environment. It has the primary objective of strengthening the abilities to manage information technology for both current and future managers.

create your own MBAIf you don’t want to specialize in a particular area, you can take the general MBA path. General MBA students can choose electives from any discipline and create their own educational experience.
