MBGLL Mission

The mission of Mass Bay Girls Lacrosse League is to promote girls youth lacrosse in an environment that emphasizes fun, while developing skills, teamwork, good sportsmanship, and integrity. • Create a weekly match schedule for member teams on Sunday

afternoons

• Promote the growth of girls’ lacrosse throughout Eastern Massachusetts and provide appropriate services for mature programs

• Cultivate and assist additional towns to start girls youth lacrosse programs

• Train girls’ youth lacrosse coaches and umpires

• Nurture a player’s skills as they develop, as well as the individual

• Manage the growing competitiveness among coaches, players, and spectators

League Improvements Training“Studies have shown that athletes who played for untrained coaches led to an attrition rate of 26% whereas athletes who play for a trained coach resulted in a drop out rate of only 5%.

Another study indicated that 85% of youth sport coaches prefer to coach in a league that requires training and 72% feel encouraged to continue coaching through mandatory training.”

• Starting in 2017, every town will need to send at least one coach to the New England Convention as a continuing education requirement.

League Improvements Rec. Scheduling

• Issue Some towns had more teams than we could schedule at home on a Sunday afternoon

• Solution Teams should submit one field for every 5 teams registered or expect to not have an evenly balanced home/away schedule

• Issue Scheduling pools are not understood

• Solution Scheduling pools approved at the pre-scheduling meeting

2017 Rec. Scheduling Improvements

• Issue Some towns say that due to a lack of coaches, they need back-to-back games

• Solution MBGLL will schedule games with enough time for the coach to travel to a different game site

• Issue Some towns are entering 4 black-out dates which means they are forcing a block schedule, which isn’t fair to other towns

• Solution Towns may enter a max. of 2 black-out dates and expect to play away if the field is not available when scheduled

League Improvements

• Issue Game Change Request forms worked well in that they gave the division directors the needed information to make changes. However, people were handing them in with too little notice and town directors sometimes were not notified.

• Solution Game Change Request forms must be approved and submitted by the town director a minimum of 1 week in advance of the change. Exceptions are for field closures.

• Issue Some people volunteered to help but we were not able to get them set up and trained adequately.

• Solution Sign-ups for some positions will start tonight

Rules – Re-evaluating

• Eliminated the No Coast-To-Coast Rule

• How did it go?

• Last year US Lacrosse suggested that we play 6 v 6 plus an optional goalie at the U9 level or 7 v 7 with no goalie. Thoughts for 2017?
