Dear Samaj Members,Our 2004 EC and BOT committee, wishes you

and your family a very happy, healthy and a prosperous New Year. Onceagain, we have a very talented and dedicated team in EC, BOT, and GSYto serve our samaj. We also would like to thank the 2003 EC, BOT, andGSY committee for doing the best job possible. We can assure you to-gether, we will raise the bar to the next level, and make this samaj all thatit was meant to be. We are looking for full support from all of you.

As we know, cost of living, renting equipment, halls and qualityprograms going higher and higher. Therefore, we had a general bodymeeting and we decided to raise the membership fee to $35.00. In addi-tion, there is another change in the constitution; the due date for member-ship will be Feb 28, instead of July 31 of each year. To take full advantageof the annual membership, we request you to fill out the form ASAP. Fromthis year, we have a website called www.gsod.org. It will give you forms toapply for membership, year events, and all other updates from our com-mittee. As we progress toward the technology age, the computer hasbecome more useful in spreading our ideas. The website was designedby Rakesh Patel, Nirav Patel & friends. We would like to thank them fordoing a splendid job.

It is always a dream of our members to build our Cultural cen-ter where we can promote a variety of different in-house activities. Withthat thought in mind, this year EC and BOT committee has decided to addnominal charge on all events to raise funds to fulfill our future dreams.Please support us to reach next milestone of our Samaj.

As we know, volunteers are always welcome to Samaj, We urge you tofill out the attached form and we will count on your help in all events. General Body Meeting:The second and final general body meeting for 2003 was held at Mr.Harendra Patel residence on January11, 2004 at 2:00 PM. Accounts for the year 2003 were unanimously approved along with followingchanges to our constitution.1 Annual membership for family shall be $35.00 (Article:10 Section:1 item:C)2 Annual Membership are due by February 28, of current year. (Article:10,Sec:2,#A)

Board of Trustees (BOT) UpdateThe first BOT meeting was held on January 11th., 2004 and Mr. Dilip Desai was elected as Chairman, Mr.Vikram Mehta as Vice Chairman and Mr. Jayesh Patel as Secretary. Other members of BOT include Mr.Bhavesh Joshi, Mr. Arvind Shah, Mr. Raman Patel , Mr. Subhash Vyas and Mrs. Nina Shah.

Membership Updates :It is very important to grow our membership. Obituary:Rameshbhai C. Patel age 63, passed away on January 7, 2004 in Baroda because of a heart attack. Hewas good community volunteer, past EC member, and a life time member of Gujarati Samaj. He issurvived by his wife, Sudhaben, son, Lincoln, Daughter, Ami, and three grand daughters. For the past 25years, he worked for the City of Detroit in Commercial building inspection department and worked hisway up to becoming chief. His helpful nature will be missed by all of the Detroit community and GujaratiSamaj gives its heartfelt condolences to the family of Mr. Rameshbhai Patel.

HOLI PROGRAM RULES & REGULATIONS

a. Each choreographer can submit maximum of eight (8) entries.b. Participants (including Choreographers) or their parents must be current members of the Samaj.

c. New members and their children are eligible to participate provided their membership dues are paid before theprogram.

d. Choreographer or Manager of each item will be responsible for verifying current membership oftheir participants. Failure to verify this information will result in disqualification of the entireitem.

e. A participant cannot be in more than one item.

f. A maximum allowable performance time for each item will be 5 minutes. With prior approval, an additionalone (1) minute of stage preparation time will be allowed.

g. Each item will have a minimum of ten (10) participants.

h. No loose flowers, colored powder, confetti or other similar materials will be allowed on the stage.

i. No special sound effects, colored lighting, fogging/bubble machine or backdrops will be provided.

j. No photography or video taping of the event will be permitted without prior approval. Each item will have adesignated photographer and videographer selected by the choreographer.

k. One master tape and one backup tape (non-metallic type) for each item or CD must be submitted no later thanApril 10, 2004. Samaj will not be responsible for poor sound quality due to bad tapes.

l. Participants will be responsible for their belongings. Samaj will not be responsible for any lost, damaged orstolen articles.

m. Participants and/or their parents will be responsible for costumes, transportation and rehearsals.

n. All decisions made by the Executive Committee (EC) will be final. EC reserves the right to reject or deny anyitem or change the program schedule without prior notice.

Holi Program – MC Tryouts

The New Year is here and hence the return of exiting events from Gujarati Samaj. Like past several years, we arecontinuing with the tradition to encourage youths of our community to come on the stage and announce the individualevents during the upcoming Holi Mahotsav (on Sunday, April 25, 2004). We are inviting all the interested youths(ages 13 to 18) of our community to show off their public speaking talents and learn some additional skills at the nextHoli Mahotsav. The first MC tryouts / selection meeting is scheduled for Sunday, March 28th at 2:00 pm (sharp) at MayankParikh’s residence in Canton. Please visit Gujarati Samaj website for directions.
