    first Sunday Kids Day promotion fromthe baseball organization of the season.During each Sunday home game, any kid14 and younger will receive a free pro-motional item, free rides on the Comer-ica Bank Carousel or the Fly Ball FerrisWheel, get their face painted and have achance to win a bicycle. And then thereis the traditional Kid Run the Basesafter the game.

    In order to enter, a parent or legalguardian must submit a 250 word orfewer essay answering the question,

    Feb. 16, at the Collegefor Creative Studies, Cam-eron Jenkins, a studentat North Farmington HighSchool, was awarded aGold Key Award for Excel-lence in Visual Arts. Everyyear, The Scholastic Artand Writing Program andthe College for CreativeStudies present Honor-able Mentions, Silver andGold Key Awards, Ameri-can Vision nominations,and Best of Show Portfo-lios awards to local areamiddle school and highschool students. TheGold Keys are given to themost outstanding piecesof artwork and writing inthe region.

    Jenkins entered asculpture of a monkey

    based on a Nazca line inPeru. The lines are simi-lar to crop circles due tothe magnitude of theirsize and the mysterysurrounding their cre-ation. They can only beseen from the sky. It isthat mystery and his loveof history and science

    This is his second timeentering the ScholasticArt and Writing Awardsprogram. The Alliance forYoung Artists & Writersis a national non-profitorganization establishedin 1994 to identify, moti-

    vate and validate the nextgeneration of young art-ists and writers. The Al-liance tracks the creativedevelopment of teenagersacross the country each

    year through The Scho-lastic Art and WritingAwards program. It is thelongest running recogni-tion program for creativeyoung people in the coun-try.

    This region alone on av-erage receives over 4,000pieces of artwork and 300portfolios, and approxi-mately 1,000 pieces aredisplayed at the Collegefor Creative Studies forexhibit.

    Cameron is a talentedyouth with many skillsand interests, and as suchis exploring various fieldsof study for his college

    education, including ani-mation, illustration andliberal studies. However,it is clear that his pas-sion is in the visual arts.He believes in thinkingoutside the box, an im-portant attribute for beingsuccessful.
