Letter from Administration
What a great time to be an MC2 Owl! The spring
semester is off to a great start! The second half
of the school year is always very busy with a host
of activities, including MAP testing, state testing,
great field trips, prom, and graduation, to name
a few. The pace in the classroom is rapid this se-
mester so please encourage your children to
stay on top of their assignments and responsibili-
ties so they don’t fall behind. Finally, we would
like to look back and recognize the recipients of
our first semester awards:
Most Improved Students: Emerald Castro and
Christopher Hannah
Owl Spirit Award: Abdiel Arias, Matthew

A great place to learn

“Sociopath,” “The Revenge,” “Vegan Va-
cation,” and “Clown House,” were all wor-
thy projects, but the night’s big winner was
“Shell Shocked.” The event was even cov-
ered by student journalists and photogra-
phers from Laura’s Communications class. I
think that it is fair to say that everyone at
MC2 learned something from the movies
this semester.

Field trip to the Milwaukee Film Festival
Testing catapults in science class
News from Jennifer
Science is very busy right now! Our
physical science classes are
exploring energy by building roller
coasters. Our chemistry classes are
conducting flame tests to help learn
about energy and electrons. And,
bioethics wrapped up the semester
by creating Mars colonies where
students will deal with a variety of
bioethical problems.
The MC2 Film Festival
Audrey Hepburn once said, “Everything I
learned, I learned from the movies.” It’s ap-
propriate, then, that Arts and Humanities stu-
dents learned so much while writing, filming,
scoring, and editing their own original short
films. First, we attended the MKE Film Festival
and then we dove in headfirst to the movie
making process. Students had the
opportunity to screen their films for the entire
school. Finally, students attended the star-
studded Abelyn Awards to be recognized for
their accomplishment. “A Taco Between
Us,” “The Girl in the Wrong Generation,”
Some of the
creators and
stars of “Shell
Shocked” on
the red
carpet with
their Abelyn
Awards.

News From Laura
All of Laura’s classes worked hard right
up to the end of the semester! Juniors
in English 11 researched different
topics independently to defend claims
in a research paper, while also
analyzing college-level poetry. English
10 students delved into the mind of
Holden Caulfield as they read and
analyzed The Catcher in the Rye in
small literature circle groups. While
keeping up with grammar lessons in
English 9, students also had a chance
to tell stories through their own
personal narratives. Final ly, in
Communications 1+2, students made
impressive short films expressing their
most prominent attributes, and wrote a
range of articles for another great issue
of the MC Scoop!
News From Jeff
The seniors are beginning their
exploration into the world of robotics
with the Lego Mindstorms EV3 Robotics
Kits. Students are working in pairs to
construct and program a robot to
complete various tasks. Construction
should take approximately one week,
but then the real fun begins. Each
robot has a variety of sensors to help it
detect various elements of its
environment. By using input from the
sensors, the seniors can make the
robot respond to new challenges that
arise. The robots will be able to detect
distance, pressure, rotations, and even
color differences! Once the students
have mastered the basics of
programming the robots, they’ll have
even more fun challenging each other
to new builds and competitions!
News From Evelyn
Step right up! GSA held the first ever
MC2 Winter Carnival, and it was a
roaring success! Students of all ages
attended and enjoyed classic carnival
food, games, and friends. Maya
Angelou, the author of I Know Why the
Caged Bird Sings, said “We are more
alike, my friends, than we are unalike.”
Seniors in English 12 are finding
inspiration from wise words from
Angelou in our unit on her memoir, all
while analyzing text and practicing
college-level discussion. In English 9,
students are learning about the art of
persuasion in order to write persuasive
essays. One of the most important skills
for college is to be able to support a
claim in an argumentative essay; in
English 10, students are organizing
essays that will make a claim and
include evidence to support that
claim. This is the first ever semester of
our Composition elective course. The
class is focused on improving students’
writing skills. Students write a journal
entry every day and will complete an
expansive book report on a book of
their choice. Ask your student what
they’re reading; they might have a
good recommendation!
