McCauley with whom she shared a love of genealogy. Jeanette and Joe moved to Middlesboro in 1947, following Joe’s service in
the US Navy during World War II. They were business owners and worked side by side. Jeanette was active in Beta Sigma Phi
sorority where she served in several capacities, including President. She also chaired the American Heart Association annual
fund drive in Middlesboro and due to her outstanding results was named to the Kentucky Board of the American Heart
Association, later serving as a delegate to the National Board in NYC. Jeanette was an active member of the community enjoying
golf, canasta parties and her church, Trinity United Methodist. Swimming, water skiing and boating on Norris Lake, TN, where
she made the best tuna salad sandwiches ever were some of the happiest years of her life. Upon leaving Middlesboro in 1966 to
move to Pikeville, KY. Jeanette became a bookkeeper at the Pikeville United Methodist Hospital. From this position, she served
as City Treasurer and Tax Administrator in the City of Prestonsburg. She was honored for her excellence in these roles. Her
membership in the Business and Professional Women’s Club led to her service as President. She believed in the role of women in
the workplace and was proud to have been named for Jeannette Rankin of Minnesota who became the first Congress woman in
the United States. When Jeanette moved to Frankfort in 1992 at age 74 to be closer to family, she joined the First United
Methodist Church where she was an active member of the Seniors’ group and volunteered in the Soup Kitchen weekly. She
especially enjoyed the trips with the seniors and playing board games. Spending time with John and Becky during her years in
Frankfort as well as accompanying them on travels were among her great joys. Morning Pointe East in Lexington became
Jeanette’s home for her last year, and she made it a memorable one. Being the first resident delighted her and she enjoyed
giving tours of the facility as well as working with her sweet friend, Sarah Rowe, to found the Residents organization and the
Walking Club. Her teapot collection was enjoyed by many who visited her bright room. A special joy was watching the birds
outside her courtyard window that came to the bird feeder provided by her grandsons, Hans and Finn. The goldfinches that
perched there recently were a great delight to her. She made many dear friends at Morning Pointe including Sue Cox, Laura
Hamilton and Ruth Keller. Her special caregivers were Shea, Kayla, Jessica, Teresa and Whitney. For her grandchildren and
older great-grandchildren, going to MuMu’s house meant the world’s best chicken and dumplings,, banana pudding and her
delicious peach cobbler all engulfed in a cozy sea of pink, her favorite color. Many of them played their first board games with
MuMu where they learned firsthand about her competitive spirit. Since 1985, Jeanette's favorite vacation spot was Pawleys
Island, SC where she bounded out of the bed early each morning to find the prettiest shells on the beach. Kelly enjoyed walking
on the beach with her searching for the largest shark tooth. Her green thumb was evident in her yard that she transformed
into a lovely garden, a hobby she shared with Cornelia. Mother passed on her skill at quiliting that she had learned from her
Mother to her daughter Kaye and her daughters, a legacy for generations to come. Joe remarked that "Mother knew how to
remain calm and serene despite the circumstances, an example for all of us." She loved visits from Bill who made her laugh and
enjoy life. He was always her "happy place". Jeanette was a beautiful, intelligent woman with bright aqua blue eyes, an avid
reader and a student of KY history. An extraordinary task she undertook after retirement and well into her later years was the
compilation and writing of the history of her Gilliam pioneer heritage. She spent countless hours researching her family at the
KY History Museum in Frankfort and was proud of the leaf she sponsored on the genealogy tree in the foyer of the museum in
honor of her ancestors. She presented her research at a seminar at the Benham, KY, Coal Mining Museum. When staying in
Pineville with Sissy and Steve, bird watching from their porch and discussing Kentucky Appalachian history and literature were
her favorite activities as well as returning to her beloved Appalachian mountains. As a child, she hiked to the top of Black
Mounta with her father and brothers and recounted that looking into Virginia from the top of “Big Black” with its fog-laced
valleys was one of the most beautiful sights she had ever seen. Her family will remember her love of reading, her enjoyment of
travel, her wickedly competitive board games (that she often won much to her delight), her compassion for others and a lifelong
love of learning. The family of Jeanette Gilliam McCauley honor their beloved Mother’s incredible life and her indomitable spirit
that spanned nearly a century and lives on in their hearts. Clark Legacy Center, Brannon Crossing is handling the arrangements.
Funeral service will be Friday, September 5, 2014 at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Lexington, Kentucky. Burial will follow
at John Gilliam Cemetery in Cumberland, Kentucky. In honor of Jeanette's life and legacy donations can be made to Hospice of
the Bluegrass.

James Douglas McDonald died at home from pneumonia on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 in Venice, FL at the age of 81. His wife and
partner, Kathleen Glah McDonald, was with him. Jim was born in Chicago on August 2, 1932 to Mac and Glad McDonald and lived
there until moving to Ithaca, NY following his graduation with honors from St. Ignatius High School. He graduated with honors
from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Political Science in 1954. While at Cornell he was a member of
the Cornell Crew, Quill & Dagger, Army ROTC and Phi Psi fraternity. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956 and attained
the rank of Captain. He returned to Cornell Law School and received his Doctor of Jurisprudence with honors in 1958. Jim's
first job following law school was as an associate at Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft, America's oldest law firm, on Wall Street
in Manhattan. During his time there he received a Master of Laws in International Antitrust Law from New York University and
thus began his love affair with international travel. In 1967 Jim joined the legal department of American Cyanamid Company, a
international biotechnological, agricultural and pharmaceutical corporation. He was Manager of Cyanamid's Legal Department
from 1978-1994 where he was responsible for all general legal matters on a worldwide basis, directed all major litigation,
oversaw regulatory compliance, directed all acquisitions, mergers, joint ventures and divestitures worldwide and specialized in
international and United States antitrust matters, environmental and other litigation and arbitration. Jim was an Arbitrator for
complex commercial arbitrations with the American Arbitration Association and with the London Board of Commercial
Arbitration from 1969 until his death. After retiring from Cyanamid in 1994, Jim was a volunteer lawyer for the United States
Agency for International Development/VOCA in the Czech Republic and Uganda. He was a legal consultant for the International

to sail and kayak and joined the Sarasota Scullers, rowing three mornings each week on Sarasota Bay. He became a member of
The Florida Bar in 1998 and worked as volunteer legal counsel for various national and local non-profit organizations, including
The National League of American Pen Women in Washington, DC, Art Center Sarasota, Women Contemporary Artists and the
Sarasota Museum of Art. He spent two years as a consultant with Morris & Widman in Venice. He then worked for eleven years
as a full-time volunteer lawyer at Gulfcoast Legal Services in Sarasota. In 2010 he and Gulfcoast's Managing Lawyer, Elizabeth
M. Boyle, received the Steven M. Goldstein Award for Excellence in Legal Aid Impact granted by the Florida Bar Foundation. In
2011 he was a recipient of the 50 Year Continuous Legal Practice Award granted by The Florida Bar and the Florida Supreme
Court. In 2013 he received the Florida Bar Association's Pro Bono Award for giving over 12,000 hours of legal service to
Sarasota and Manatee Counties' poor and elderly. In July of 2013 he formed the law firm of McDonald & Boyle with his friend
and colleague, Elizabeth M. Boyle and continued to work for their poor and elder clients until his death. Jim was admitted to
practice before the United States Supreme Court, United States District Court for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New
York, Court of Claims of the United States, United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida and United States
Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit. Jim traveled worldwide to 148 countries for work and for personal growth. He was fond
of planning three month long adventures to remote areas of Africa, Asia and South America with just his wife, her sketch book
and a local guide. Their most recent trip was a two-month road trip in August and September in a rental car through Scotland
and the Hebrides to find his Clan Donald heritage and around Brittany and Normandy in search of local wines and cuisine. His
avocation for medieval history, archaeology and anthropology blended well with Kathleen's profession as a potter and landscape
painter. Together they visited castles, cathedrals, archaeological sites and walled cities throughout Europe, North Africa and
Asia and aboriginal tribes and cultures in such places as Borneo, Tibet, Mongolia, Indonesia, Cambodia, Madagascar and south
western Africa. Jim was brilliant, funny, generous, kind, compassionate, courteous and a real gentleman. And he loved to waltz!
He freely gave legal advice to anyone who asked, from his barber to his landscaper, neighbors, family and friends. On learning of
Jim's death a close friend and colleague said about Jim, "I've had a lot of bosses but Jim was a blessing. He was moral and had

positive about life, live the American dream of bettering yourself and to put your trust in God. She will be greatly missed by her
family. The family will have a private ceremony to honor Bettie before she is buried in Section 8, Site 442 at the Sarasota

MCGINNIS, Ross Andrew McGinnis
(Abstracted from https://thefallen.militarytimes.com/army-pfc-ross-a-mcginnis/2411963)
Spc. Ross McGinnis was laid to rest March 23 at Arlington National Cemetery in a traditional military ceremony, one befitting a
young man who gave his life to save those of his fellow soldiers. McGinnis, age 19, of 1st Platoon, C Company, 1st Battalion, 26th
Infantry, was killed Dec. 4 in Adhamiyah, Iraq, when he used his body to smother a grenade thrown into his Humvee. The
explosion hit McGinnis on his sides and his lower back, under his vest. He was killed instantly. His actions are credited with
saving the lives of the four other soldiers in the vehicle and he has been nominated for the nation’s highest award for valor, the
Medal of Honor. He already has been awarded the Silver Star for his actions. The graveside services took place under a
cloudless, early spring sky. His parents, Tom and Romayne, were among two busloads of mourners who traveled all night from
the fallen soldier’s hometown of Knox, PA. They were accompanied on the journey by others traveling in cars and at least 60
members of the Patriot Guard Riders, a motorcycle group that escorted the caravan. As the buses, cars and motorcycles
streamed into the cemetery, members of the Army Honor Guard snapped to attention. At the gravesite, an urn containing
McGinnis’ ashes was placed on a green podium as the soldier’s parents and others took their seats for the 20-minute service.
McGinnis’ heroism led to “his name being written in history,” said Chaplain (Lt. Col.) Michael Bearfield. Three of the soldiers
who were in the Humvee with McGinnis attended the service. One traveled from Germany; the other two were allowed to leave
Iraq to be there. They were to return to the war zone shortly after paying their final respects.

Sarasota; grandchildren Natasha, Kristan, Dillon and Aden, all also from Sarasota; brothers Melvin Benedict of Kings Mountain,
KY and Bud Benedict of Linton, IN. Jeanette was a teacher for over 30 years at Julie Rohr Academy located in Sarasota, FL.
Her many talents included the ability to make every single person she met feel special. Known as "Ms. Jeanette" by thousands
that had attended Julie Rohr over the years, she was also known as "Sue" by her friends, "Suzie" by her "Jimbo" and "Mom" or
"Grandma" by the children blessed enough to have a hand in the candy bowl which sat like a shrine on the kitchen counter. It is a
widely known fact that many of the students also called her their "Grandma", a tribute to the love that she gave to each and
every one of them. Her passions included attending Broadway plays with her best friend Julie Rohr McHugh, watching her kids
grow-up, enjoying the joys of shopping and making sure that her loving husband of over 50 years had plenty of food for the
birds and squirrels in the back yard every day. Trips to her summer home in Kentucky, filled with rides in the countryside with
her brother Melvin and his wife Dru, allowed the "kid" in her to come out. She loved the peace and quiet that came with country
living and that translated in the way that she taught her children, both at home and at school. A gentle approach, mixed with a
dash of education and throw in the wisdom of 71 years and that is the formula for a successful teaching career. Knowing that
she is still watching over us, now in heaven instead of the classroom or the home brings us all a peace of mind that can't be
measured. Until we see each other again, enjoy the everlasting love that Heaven brings you… In lieu of flowers, please make a
contribution to Grace Covenant Church, 5318 Colony Meadows Lane, Sarasota, FL 34233. Arrangements under the direction of
National Cremation & Burial Society, Sarasota, FL. Interred in Section C1C-5, Row D, Site 22 of the Sarasota National

MCWILLIAMS, James Karl McWilliams
(Abstracted from https://www.legacy.com/obituaries/heraldtribune/obituary.aspx?n=james-mcwilliams&pid=167681294)
James Karl McWilliams 1SG (RET) was born Mar. 20, 1943, died Oct. 16, 2013. "Mac", as he was affectionately known to family
and friends, is survived by his ex-wife and caregiver, Linda McWilliams of Sarasota, FL, his son James McWilliams Jr. of Live
Oak, FL, two daughters, Julie McWilliams of Savannah, GA, and Alyssa McWilliams of Dublin, CA; as well as two granddaughters,
Ella and Lily Glanville. Mac proudly served in the United States Army, retiring after 20 years of dedicated service to the nation.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and was awarded Bronze Star Medal for heroic service in action. Other medals include
Meritorious Service Medal x2 and Combat Infantryman's Badge. Mac also served at Joint Security Area Korea, defending the
boundary between North and South Korea, and as a Drill Instructor, helping to mold and guide future Army senior leaders.
Following military service, Mac put his passion and artistic talents to work as a custom "paint and body man" where he
transformed ordinary vehicles into unique and beautiful works of art. Throughout his life, Mac enjoyed illustration, and his
unique sense of humor and razor sharp wit were always present in his drawings, and often, in his manner of speech. There never
was a clever comeback, or a snappy one liner he didn't know and use; and all who experienced his sense of humor were the
better for it. Military Burial Services will be in Section C1C-3, Row A, Site 31 at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Road
72, Sarasota, FL. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 787,
