McClure Place Canopy
Hello everybody.
I will continue to remind everyone about the people, space, time, place aspects to keeping you and yours safe. I ask that we think of the collective community that shares all spaces with you. Please ensure your visitors wear masks and use hand sanitizer upon entry and continue to limit elevator rides to one suite at a time. Please remain vigilant for the sake of yourselves and your neighbors. Also try to remember that we are all progressing at our own speed, and what feels safe to you may feel very risky to your neighbor.
Sorry folks, but my grocery shopping days are over. It is actually a sad day for me, because I really enjoy grocery shopping! I hope you all have alternate ways of getting food. There are many resources you can use. CHEP is a great weekly service for this building. Save on Foods delivers to our front door. Saskatoon Services for Seniors provides the service for a fee. The church has volunteers that may be willing to shop for you so don’t hesitate to reach out to them. Heck even Amazon.ca can deliver groceries if you are tech savvy. Please ask the staff for help if you really need it. There is no reason for anyone in this building to go hungry. We will help you figure things out.
The Annual General Meeting of the McClure Place Association Board and Foundation will be happening on Aug 16. There will be an in-person meeting in the sanctuary for voting members (members and adherents of McClure United Church). You must sign up with Nicole Coquet, and it is first come first serve with a cap of 30. There is a Zoom option available as well. Please send Nicole your email so we can send you the Zoom invite on the day. Anyone that would like to attend the meeting virtually is welcome. Voting members that are not able to attend in person can also send in a proxy form for voting privileges. Please see Nicole for those as well. Copies of the annual report will be available in the front office in August.
Personal: We did it! As you read this I am sitting in Nova Scotia on my mom and dad’s farm. Say a little prayer for our return journey. I will be back in the province Aug 9, but working from home for 2 weeks to make sure everyone is as safe as possible. Nurse Nicole 306-955-9436 Lisa White 306-955-9431

nothing more than
good health and a
bad memory.”

I am going to be away (moving into my new
home!) starting Wednesday July 29th,
returning Monday August 10th.
There will be no Canopy released for the
week of August 3rd. The Canopy for August
10th will be delayed until the afternoon.
Exercises will continue as usual with the
exception to the 11am seated class.
Unfortunately with only 3 other leaders
available we could not coordinate a way to
cover each class. I encourage you to join in
at 9am (lots of room) or check in with the
10am class and see if you can get a spot. We
are still bound by the 15 person limit–
including the instructor.
The Activities Committee held a vote and
was unanimous in selling the exercise
equipment we currently have at a discount.
However, it will need to be passed by
council as well when they meet again in the
fall. I have purchased exercise bands from
FlagHouse Canada, and once they arrive I
will begin to sell those. There has been a
shortage of dumbbells in stores when I have
checked, so those of you who have wanted
some I have just not been able to get them as
of yet. Thank you for your patience.
-Olivia, Recreation Director
Thank You very much for all the birthday cards, phone calls, texts, e-mails and flowers that I received for my 90th Birthday last week. McClure is a wonderful place. -Dorothy Miller

on. Water and a hat is
recommended as shade can be
sparse.
How to cool yourself without air conditioning
• Drink water frequently. Your body will feel cooler if you are
well-hydrated. Try drinking 8 ounces of water at least every
hour
• Spritz yourself with cool water. Fill a spray bottle with cool
water and adjust it to a fine mist. Spray it on your exposed skin
for an instant cooling effect
• Freeze a facecloth. Put it on your neck, forehead, arms, or legs.
• Run cold water over your wrists. This will reduce your tem-
perature for a little bit.
• Wet your hair. Wet hair cools the body down.
• Fill your bathtub with cool water and get in. Take a cool show-
er, soak your feet in cold water. This is especially effective just
before bed.
Cooling your house
• Close the blinds/curtains. Block the sun’s rays. Close all win-
dows and keep exterior doors and windows closed throughout
the hottest part of the day. Do this until nightfall
• Open the windows at night. Be strategic so that cooler night
air is blowing in throughout the evening.
• Cool down your home with fans.
• Make a do-it yourself air conditioner. Put a metal bowl of
salted ice in front of the fan, and adjust the fan so the air is
blowing over the ice. The salt lowers the temperature at
which water freezes, allowing you to make the
ice super cold.
• Set your ceiling fans to run counter clockwise.
This will draw hot air up while circulating a
cool breeze through your rooms.
