Additional InformationBloggin and Podcasting Presentation: Elise Martinez and Dawn Abron from Zion Benton Public Library

Elise Martinez: Roulette Reader BlogDawn Abron: Teen Services Depot/ Bang Bang Book Blog

How to start Blogging:o Pick a focus or topic for your blog. If the blog is too scattered and not focused, the

blog will lose readers. The more specific and focused a blog the more likely you will retain readers.

o Blog Layout: Avoid having readers scroll for information. Readers have short attention spans and do not want to have to dig for information. Keep your header clean and simple. Think home page, About You, and Social Media.

o Photographs are better than lots of text. o Post consistently to retain readers.o Social Media: Twitter is more professional outreach while Instagram is more

personal. Instagram has more active users than any other platform. It’s harder to bring in readers from twitter.

o Utilize hashtags. They allow users to connect on topics and can bring in more readers.

o Geotags can allow you to connect and advertise where you are from. How to start Podcasting:

Page 3: MCFLS YS Agenda Min 2019-03.pdf · The more specific and focused a blog the more likely you will retain readers. o Blog Layout: Avoid having readers scroll for information. ... They

o Elise and Dawn created Novel Universal podcast. They used to do vlogging, but podcasting worked better for them. Think of YouTube for viewing while podcasting is for listening.

o Have a solid intro for your podcast. This sets a unified tone for your podcast.o Tools: A good microphone for recording. External is better than internal. A

computer with a recording app. Garage Band and an editing app are useful. o Focus your podcast to a specific theme and schedule regular podcasts. o Two ways to upload your podcast: archive.org or Podbean on ITunes ($13 a

month). It is difficult to get your podcast on iTunes, but it is worth it. Briony’s Blogging

o Librionyian: Main focus is storytimes/programming. o Briony actually does very little for outreach, as her blog was started as more of an

archive for personal use. However, weekly posts have generated a readership. Her first year she only had 1,096 views. Last year she had 9,380 views.

Presentation from Jamie Mercer about Summer Food Service

Details:o Plan on # of servers, time, advertising, and storage.o Advertising is provided by Sponsors.o Determination of qualification: Is your local schools closed or open site. If your

school is open then children under the age of 18 qualify for the breakfast. If the site is closed then you would have to collect income information from participants.

o Jamie recommends choosing a location where you can contain and monitor the food.

o There may be some pushback from staff and community. Some patrons were not happy that they could not participate in the breakfast.

o Application Process: Locations may start applying in early March for the program.

Presentation from Jamie Mercer about Intergenerational Storytime

Details:o Jamie combines a storytime between a daycare and a senior center once a month.o No extra funding required.o It engages both groups together.
