New to the Chamber?, a bit overwhelmed?, attend a Discover the Chamber orientation or make an

appointment with Kay or Frank. We’ll help you find your niche?

Kay’s View:It’s EXPO Season!

The McHenry Area Chamber because of its community targeted events, offers members the opportunity to connect with the com-munity with the credibility of the chamber. Included in these are the Fiesta Days Kid’s Ice-Cream Social and the Parade, the Fall Wine Walk, and the Radical River Road Rally. Coming up on February 27th is our best community connector - the “Life is a Journey” EXPO. At this well advertised event, members display their products and services meet-ing the public one on one promoting their organization. In this day and age when so much consumer selling is done without dealing with another individual, the personal touch is what our costumers crave to-day and EXPO’s supply this. Just a few suggestions to make the EXPO work for you:• SendyourAteam.Oftenweseeorganizationssendanindividual

who just babysits a booth. Sometimes reading a book - Horrors, but no engagement.

• Makesureyoustandatyourbooth.• Ifatallpossible,standinfrontofthebooth,invitingattendeestosee

ask them a few pointed questions. Example: Do you think you will begettingnewwindowsinthenextfiveyears?Doyoumindifwefollow-up with you. We have a special sale for EXPO attendees. If the answer is yes, make certain you mark this card so you follow-up.

• Follow-up.Vital.AttendeeswillleavetheEXPOandunfortunatelyget involved in their day to day lives. You must connect with them. Do not sit by the phone waiting for the date then to call!

• Setarateofreturnforyourinvestmentandtime.Dependingonproducts sold, one customer can make the time and investment well worth your company appearing at the EXPO. For others might be more.

Hope to see you at the “Life is the Journey” EXPO on February 27th. If you do not have an application, be sure to get one as space is limited.

eInvestment Mistakes to Watch For...at Different Stages of Life

Investment mistakes happen — but if you’re familiar with the most common mistakes at different stages of an inves-tor’s life, you may be able to avoid these errors. For example, when you’re young, don’t invest too conservatively (or not atall).Youhavedecadestoovercomeshort-termmarketdrops,sotakeadvantageofthistimeandinvestforgrowth.When you’re in mid-career, your earnings have likely increased — so don’t make the mistake of under-funding your IRAand401(k).Then,whenyou’renearingretirement,youmayneedtoadjustyourportfolio’soverallrisklevelbe-tween growth and income vehicles — so don’t make the mistake of not rebalancing your investments. When you’ve just retired, you need to be sure your money will last. That’s why you must avoid the mistake of not developing an appropri-atewithdrawalstrategy.Bynotmakingtheseerrors,youcanhelpyourselfmakeprogresstowardyourfinancialgoals—

at every stage of your life. Financial Advice from Dave Lammers, Edward Jones Investments.
