STUDENT POLICY INFORMATION – View a complete list of district policies online at www.psd1.org/Page/183. The McLoughlin Student Handbook is available online at www.psd1.org/Domain/203. STUDENT BEHAVIOR – MAC teachers consistently use our PBIS Intervention System to reinforce expected behaviors. Keeping students in class and engaged in learning activities is a school-wide effort. One of MAC’s goals is to have open communication with families concerning instances of misbehavior. When one of your child’s teachers contacts you to report such incidents, be assured they are seeking information to help them help your child succeed in class. In addition, all students shall comply with the written policies, rules, and regulations of the Pasco School District; pursue the required course of study; submit to all reasonable requests from, and to the authority of, school staff; and be subject to corrective action(s) as identified in the Pasco School District/McLoughlin Middle School Student Discipline Codes. Please call an administrator at 547-4542 if you have any questions. ATTENDANCE – We want all MAC Panthers at school every day. However, we understand emergencies occur. MAC asks parent(s) or guardian(s) to keep open communication with the school concerning circumstances affecting student attendance. Please make every effort to reach our attendance secretary at 547-4542 to report the reason for your student’s absence(s), as regular attendance is vital to the academic success of each student. BULLYING/HARASSMENT POLICY (HB1444) – Pasco School District, in compliance with HB1444, has adopted a Bullying/Harassment Policy. This policy clearly states that Bullying or Harassment of any kind will not be tolerated on any of our campuses. “Harassment, intimidation, or bullying” means any intentional written message or image – including those that are electronically transmitted – verbal, or physical act, including but not limited to one shown to be motivated by race, color, religion, ancestry, national origin, gender, sexual orientation including gender expression or identity, mental or physical disability or other distinguishing characteristics, when an act:

1. Physically harms a student or damages the student’s property. 2. Has the effect of substantially interfering with a student’s education. 3. Is so severe, persistent, or pervasive that it creates an intimidating or threatening educational environment. 4. Has the effect of substantially disrupting the orderly operation of the school.

BUS TRANSPORTATION – PSD provides bus transportation for middle school students who live outside the safe walking zone of their assigned school. Please note and remember your bus number, route, and morning pick-up time. The bus is an extension of the school and all school rules apply while riding the bus. Show MAC Pride and respect your peers and the bus driver by meeting all behavior expectations and sitting in your assigned seat. Misbehavior can result in temporary or long-term suspension from riding the bus. Busses leave promptly at 2:27 PM at the end of each school day. Tri-City Herald publishes PSD bus schedules and routes roughly one week before the first day of school and this information will also be available on the PSD website. DRESS CODE POLICY – MAC’s goal is to maintain a welcoming and safe school atmosphere. Thus, MAC requires student dress and appearance follow health and safety standards and be non-disruptive to the learning environment. Students not meeting this expectation will be asked to change their clothing to correct the disruptive or unsafe clothing choice. Please reference District Policy #3224 at 3000 Series - PSD Board Policies for further details. Head coverings, including hats, are not allowed on campus unless religious reasons are applicable. EARLY DEPARTURE – Any student needing to leave campus prior to the end of the school day must be checked out through the main office with permission of a parent/guardian. A student is considered truant if they leave campus without following the proper procedures. FOOD AND DRINK – Monster, Red Bull, or other highly caffeinated beverages, including energy drink based blended beverages from local coffee shops are not allowed inside the building. This policy helps MAC maintain a safe, secure, and pleasant learning environment for all our students. We ask parents to help us with this expectation by limiting the purchase of these types of drinks for their children on the way to school in the morning – Thank you. MAC staff will politely ask students to dispose of such beverages as they enter the building. Other food or beverages brought to school are subject to confiscation if any staff member feels they are creating a disruption or are unsafe for, or distracting to, the school or classroom environment. Any MAC employee is empowered to enforce this policy. Individual teachers may allow other food and beverages in their classroom for specific, periodic classroom activities. We recommend your child drink water, fruit juice, or milk while on campus.

CELL PHONES, HEADPHONES, AND ELECTRONIC DEVICES – In an effort to support the learning environment, promote the importance of academic classroom time, and to protect against cyber bullying and lost/damaged/stolen personal electronic equipment cell phones, electronic devices, and headphones are allowed at school, but are to be stowed away in a student’s backpack or locker from 7:30a.m. until 2:22p.m. unless a teacher specifically indicates that students can use their device in support of a learning activity. Further, the expectation is that students keep their cell phones, electronic devices, and headphones stowed away during hallway passing times between classes, but are allowed to access them during their assigned lunch period. Do not let another student use or borrow your device as the school is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Should a child be asked to surrender a device to a staff member and they refuse, the student is subject to school disciplinary consequences.

PANTHER PRIDE PROGRAM – One of our building goals is to recognize positive behavior from our students. Two of the many ways we do this are using the PANTHER PRIDE PAWS and PANTHER CHARACTER COUNTS programs. Both programs recognize something excellent about your child. Recognized students can earn prizes for meeting and exceeding behavior expectations and parents will receive periodic notification of all the great things their child is doing at school. MAC Panthers are great students and human beings, and we want to reinforce those truths through these programs. It is truly great to show PANTHER PRIDE! Please visit MAC’s website to view a list of suggested prize donations if you would like to join the effort in supporting these expected behavior reinforcement programs. This is one opportunity available for families to play an integral role in the success of our school. Thanks in advance for your participation. Please deliver donations to the main office and indicate they are for Mr. Davison and the MAC PANTHER PRIDE program.
