The main at risk groups are children and the malnourished
Vitamin A deficiency
Measles is incredibly contagious
coughing and sneezing People who recover are immune
Measles is easily treated if one has the resources
Good nutrition, adequate fluid intake vitamin A supplements

The Measles vaccine is cheap!
Measles/Mumps/Rubella (MMR) Two (2) doses of the vaccine

There is a lack of immunization coverage in Africa and SE Asia

Access to healthcare in developing countries is rare
Inaccessible immunization services Poverty, poor health systems, lack of
information

Several organizations have made a joint effort to eliminate Measles
FOURTH Millennium Development Goal (MDG 4)
The Measles Initiative
The implementation of the vaccine has changed the world
measles mortality reduced by 90% Vaccinated nearly 700 million

MCV coverage is inversely proportional to the number of cases
• 224,408 cases reported• 164,000 deaths (2008)• 82% MCV coverage • 60% of countries reached >=90% MCV coverage
