ThesensorsarecommonlymountedwiththeZ-methodortheV-method.WiththeZ-meth-od,thetwosensorsareinstalledonoppositesideofapipe.Thismethodoffersshortersoundpath,thus,bettersignalstrength.Itisoftenusedforlargesizepipeswheresignalstrengthismoreimportant.WiththeV-meth-od,thetwosensorsareinstalledonthesamesideofthepipe.Thesoundpathisdoubled,andasaresult,themeasurementaccuracyisbetter.Thismethodisoftenusedforsmallandmediumsizepipes.
Forinsertionandflow-celltypetransducers,however,onlytheZ-methodisused.
TheEnduroFlowTMSeriesflowmetersarebasedonthetransit-timemeasurementprinciple.Thesystemutilizesapairofsen-sors(AandBinfigurebelow)thatfunctionasbothultrasonictransmitterandreceiver.Thesensorsareinstalledonthepipewall,eitherclampedontheoutsideofthepipeorinsertedintothepipeataspecificdistancefromeachother,andtheflowmeteroperatesbyalternatelytransmittingandreceivingacodedburstofsoundenergybetweenthosetwosensorsandmeasuringthetransittimeittakesforsoundtotravelbetweenthetwosensors.Thedifferenceinthetransittimeisdirectlyrelatedtothevelocityoftheliquidinthepipe.Theflowrateisthencalculatedbasedonthetransit-timedifference,thegeometryofthepipeandthefluiddynamicsformula.

• Ifthereisavalveupstreamandthevalveisnotfullyopen,itcouldgenerateflowdisturbance.Alongerupstreamstraightpipeisrecommended.
• Ifthereisapumpupstream,werecommendtohave25Dstraightpiperun.• Ifthepipeisvertical,makesuretheflowisgoingupward,notdownward.Downwardflowcouldhaveairgapsiftheflowisfreefall.
• Ifthepipeishorizontal,makesurethepipeisfull!Thetransducersshouldbeinstalledonthesideofthepipe,notonthetoporbottomofthepipe.
