AUTHORS OF CHANGEThe Authors of Change is a tool Miron’s Healthcare Pre-Construction experts use to empower users to initiate changes in the design of their new work environment. Before formal design ever begins, we challenge users to analyze the likes and dislikes of their work environment using visual representations of their current spaces. This approach helps the design team, and users alike, identify spatial limitations and associated work space inefficiencies.

The process is actually quite simple. First, we ask each user to photograph their work station and then using handwritten notes, tell their personal story of the workspace. Personal space storytelling captures and exposes organizational limitations of space, information and behaviors. It stimulates divergent thinking and produces a mindset of transformation. We call this process Change Diagramming. Next, the analysis of the findings ensues. The Experience Facilitator challenges the authors to differentiate likes and needs. These Change Diagrams, along with other Experience-Based Design Tools are then coordinated to create the future state model. The other natural outcome of this process is the personal and professional development of the users. Ownership of a design or process change is the most effective way to create a lasting cultural shift toward continuous improvement.
