WHAT IS A MEASUREMENT?
HOW DO I MEASURE AND WHAT UNITS DO I USE?
To have a Measurement you must have two things:
QUANTITY -Something that has magnitude, size, or an amount.
UNIT –
A quantity adopted as a standard of measurement.
MetrificationMost historians agree that Gabriel Mouton, the vicar of St. Paul's Church in Lyons, France, is the "founding father" of the metric system. He proposed a decimal system of measurement in 1670.

Metric System Prefixes
These prefixes are based on powers of 10. What does this mean?
From each prefix every “step” is either:10 times larger
or10 times smaller
For exampleCentimeters are 10 times larger than millimeters1 centimeter = 10 millimeters

Metric System PrefixesFor each “step” to right,
you are multiplying by 10
For example, let’s go from a base unit to centi
1 liter = 10 deciliters = 100 centiliters
( 1 x 10 = 10) = (10 x 10 = 100)
2 grams = 20 decigrams = 200 centigrams (2 x 10 = 20) = (20 x 10 = 200)

If you move to the left in the diagram, move the decimal to the left.
If you move to the right in the diagram, move the decimal to the right.

How many mg are in 4 Kg?
1 Kg = 106 mg therefore 4 Kg = 4 x 106 mg
How many g are in 4 Kg?
1 Kg = 103 g therefore 4 Kg = 4 x 103 g
