Efficient manufacturing of parts in the metal-cutting and metal-forming industry is inconceivable today without quick clamping elements. The requirements go nowadays far beyond the handling and operation capacity of conventional clamping elements, since higher gripping power and more flexibility due to smaller lot sizes are demanded.Quick clamping units are a must to improve the quality, to gain rationalization and to humanize the work place. The mechanical clamping elements of ENEMAC meet these requirements perfectly, due to theirdifferent patented force amplifying systems. They are a true alternative as well to the conventional clamping elements as to the expensive half or fully automated clamping systems.

The salient design feature of the mechanical powerclamping nut ESB + ESD is an integrated planetarygearbox for the multiplication of the manual tighteningtorque. Therefore, the user has a sturdy and flexibleclamping element, which enables highest grippingpower with simple manual operating and maximum ope-rating safety. The ESB with blindhole thread and centri-cal aranged operating hexagonal bolt, the ESD withthrough hole thread and on the side operating hexago-nal bolt. Both types can be used for various clamping tasksthroughout the machine tool industry, particularly for dieclamping in presses and punches.

Special options:- high temperature version up to 400°C

(e. g. Forging presses)- corrosion-resistant version for critical environmental

conditions- with additional engage-mechanic, for automatic

switching to clamping-force modus for quick infeedor for counterbored adjustment (standard for ESB 60, ESBT and ESBS)

- foodstuffs grease for food industry, laboratory e. g.- with additional grease nipple- second hexagonal bolt (only for type ESD)

Function and handling:After the manual equipping of the clamping nut to theseating, the drive pinion will be activated throug clock-wise turning of the hexagon bolt SW1 respectivelySW2. Resulting from the gearing the clamping torqueis multiplied several times and the rotation of thethreaded nut causes the clamping-hub of the inscr-ewed bolt. Reliant on the operation torque the clam-ping force will be set up. Self-locking is guaranted inevery position. We suggest the use of a torque wrenchto assure the needed clamping force an to protect thegear from damage. On some conditions the use of common boxwrenchesand socket keys or ratchet wrenches can also be ok.Assure that the in-screwed bolt is fixed, that means itdoesn't rotate simultaneously. Under normal conditi-ons the clampin nuts are free of maintenance. Bodyand threaded nut are protected from corrosion by sur-face-nitration.

wedge mechanism as force amplifier - high gripping powerlow tightening torque - simple manual operation

FunctionThe wedge clamping system of the ESS clampingscrew is self-locking in each clamping position, dueto its geometry, and offers a clamping stroke of up to3 mm. This way, dependent on tightening torque, very high clamping forces up to the nominal grippingpower can be achieved.

Clamping ProcedureThe infeed of the clamping screw down to a solidcontact with the part to be clamped (7) is the firststep, done by manually turning the housing (1)clockwise. Only then the hexagon of the actuationspindle (2) should be turned clockwise, thus movingthe forced-in key (3) in axial direction and pressingthe slide gores (4) in radial direction. The latter moti-on results in the axial stroke of the thrust piece (5)against the part to be clamped (7). The grippingpower is lead over the gorebedding (6) through the housing (1) into the yoke ofthe clamping devise (8).After approximately two turns of the actuation hexa-gon the travel of the thrust piece will be blocked byan internal positive stop and the torque wrench willdisengage although the required clamping force hasnot been generated; the clamping operation has tobe repeated. The clamping travel “s” is indicated asoptional clamping motion control. The maximal clam-ping position is reached when the lower cylindricalportion of the actuation hexagon is even with the topof the housing (Fig. A2).

Release The release procedure is carried out in reverseorder. By turning the operating hexagon to the left upto the fixed back stop (Fig. A1), the wedge slidemoves back and the clamping mechanism is relea-sed. Coil springs push the pressure piece and thewedges back into the starting position.

The clamping screws of type ESS are equipped with apatented wedge clamping system as a force amplifier. This newly developed system enables highest grippingpower with low tightening torques, simple manual operation and high operating safety. The clampingscrews type ESS have various application possibilities, mainly in presses, punches and machine tools, as wellas in jigs, fixtures and similar devices.

Note: To reliably ensure the required gripping power on theone hand, and on the other hand to protect the drive orclamping mechanism against damages through excesstightening torque, we recommend the use of a torque wrench for applying the actuation torque.

With certain preconditions clamping is also acceptable with the usual ring or socket wrench.

The clamping screws are lubricated for life and maintenancefree under normal operating conditions.

versatile application - flexible, rotable head piecesimple manual operation - high gripping powerThe mechanical slide-in clamp of series ESSE is a combination of a T-slot slide-in unit with a mechanical clamping screw of seriesESS. This flexible and sturdy clamping element represents a cost-effective alternative to semi or fully automated clamping systems, mainly for tool clamping on presses and punches. The ESSE unit is positioned by sliding it into the T-slot and swivelling of the bracket if necessary. The quick tightening of the socket head cap bolt completes this step. The infeed of the clam-ping screw until solid contact of all clamping surfaces is the next step. Only the hexagon of the actuation spindle should be turnedclockwise to generate the gripping power. The bracket with clamping screw and distance plate can be screwed down without t-slotfixtures directly on supporting tables. The ESSE can be used as a fixed stop too.

mechanical clamping, hydraulic releasing - high operation safety, leakproof and robusteconomical clamping solution

GeneralThe piston assembly works in interaction mechanic-hydraulic. This means that the cup spring packet iscompressed more with increasing pressure. Thehydraulic pressure is required only for the releasestroke of the elements whereby the pull stud piece isreleased. This System ensures a very high factor ofsafety since the clamping force generated is indepen-dent from the oil pressure and from pressure loss dueto leakage and this means also economical advantage.

The full clamping force remains constant at all times. The short operating cycle times of the hydraulic powerpack additionally save on costs and make it more eco-nomical. The spring clamping cylinders of the seriesESZS are robust and reliable elements which can beused in all applications where moveable machine parts(eg. fixtures, dies etc.) need to be clamped orlocked into position. They are also used in workpieceand tool clamping operations.

Principal of operationThe piston is subjected alternately to cup springspring force or the hydraulic pressure. This means, thatas the spring assembly is pressed together with incre-asing pressure, the spring force increases. At setting pressure, the appropriate nominal clampingforce is achieved as reaction force of the cup springassembly. For release a higher hydraulic pressure isrequired, which is proportional to the release strokeup to a maximum value. The appropriate pressurevalues can be found in the tables.

With spring clamping cylinders, a clamping bolt or pullstud is screwed into the threaded bore of the pistonadjusted and secured (on request also suppliedas one piece with special thread). The required hydrau-lic assembly should be equipped with a pressure limi-ting valve, a switching-magnetic valve, a pressuregauge and a pressure switch unit. The pull stud is anti-twist guarded through a connection of the extruder-bar-rel brad.

Fitting and adjustment• slide cylinder into the locating hole provided (do not install), and make hydraulic connection• bleed cylinder and pipe line at low pressure (cylinder will be delivered empty)• increase system pressure and hold; align the cylinder with the aid of ring nut, do the fine setting until the

piston or clamping piece, backlashfree rests in place; secure pressure cylinder with cheese-head screw or secure the ring nut of the spring clamp cylinder

• drain system pressure; set release pressure for the required release stroke; check release stoke and adjust if necessary

If an automated clamping-handling is not necessary, than the temporaire, manual hydraulic-connection a hand-pump with monometer is a economic alternative (see picture on the left).
