greatest strengths of the Department is its highly

qualified and dedicated faculty members, who,

apart from teaching, are engaged in research work.

I Congratulate the members of editorial board, both

faculty and students, who helped in materializing

the maiden issue of ‘Mechanical Engineering

Newsletter’. It is endeavour of the newsletter to

acquaint its readers with the achievements of the

Department of Mechanical Engineering.

S ri Suttur Veerasimhasana Mahasamsthana

Math, vibrantly known as Suttur Math founded

1,000 years ago by Sri Adi Jagadguru Shiva-

rathreeshwara Shivayogigalu. Sri Jagadguru

Veerasimhasana Suttur Math, with a history of

more than ten centuries is a multi-dimensional

spiritual institution of the Veerashaiva commu-

nity that has contributed immensely to the cause

of advancement of society. The welfare activi-

ties of the Math transcend the sectarian limits of

the Veerashaiva community and encompass a

much wider and larger following of all the sec-

tions of Indian society. Sri Suttur Veerasimha-

sana Math can aptly be described as an active

ongoing movement to uphold the cause of social

and economic justice. No wonder today, the

Math’s activities have spread far beyond Suttur,

a small region on the banks of the river Kapila

in Karnataka to touch the lives of millions

around and beyond the boundaries of the nation.

Its administrative head-quarters located at the

foot of the picturesque Chamundi Hills, Mysore,

Sri Suttur Veerasimhasana Math is today recog-

nized as a major mission, and the activities of

the Math have drawn accolades from various

quarters. The 23rd pontiff Rajaguru Tilaka Dr.

Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamigalu with

the utmost sincerity established JSS Mahavidya-

peetha to spread the tentacles of education

through the length and breadth of the country.

He is a proponent to say “Ignorance is the root

of all evils in the society and education is the

sovereign remedy”.

Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara Mahavidya-

peetha (JSSMVP), founded in 1954 by

Jagadguru Dr. Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Ma-

haswamiji is an off shoot of Sri Suttur Math.

The objective of JSSMVP is to spread education

among the rural people and society in large.

What began in 1928 as a small hostel for poor

students pursuing higher studies in Mysore, has

today grown to be a gigantic educational move-

ment. JSS Mahavidyapeetha never had a mo-

ment to look back and proceeded on a spree of

establishing more than 320 institutions across

the country and overseas. Spear heading the

Maths education initiatives, JSS Mahavidyapee-

tha has established a Medical College, Four En-

gineering Colleges including SJCE at Mysore,

JSS Academy of Technical Education at Benga-

luru, Noida and in Mauritius, apart from Colleg-

es in Law & Pharmacy, Polytechnics, public

schools, regular schools and colleges.

A vision of JSS Mahavidyapeetha under the

guidance, inspiration and leadership of

Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Ma-

haswamiji, the 24th Pontiff and the President of

JSS Mahavidyapeetha has reached Himalayan

heights, organizing and running more than 320

institutions from Nurseries, schools Polytech-

nics, Colleges offering Graduate, Post Graduate,

Post Doctoral Courses in Arts, Commerce, Sci-

ence, Law, Engineering, Medical Sciences and

other Faculties including an exclusive polytech-

nic for differently abled and a women polytech-

nic. Name any sphere of education that has rele-

vance, is found under the aegis of JSS Maha-

vidyapeetha. There are about 60,000 students

enrolled in the various institutions of the Vidya-

peetha with more than 12,000 employees. The

Vidyapeetha can easily be described as one of

the largest education provider as well as em-

ployer in the region. Today, JSS Mahavidyapee-

tha is serving society not only through its rural

development and spiritual mission but also edu-

cational institutions. JSS Academy of Technical

Education, popularly known as JSSATE was

founded in 1997 is an integral part of JSS Maha-

vidyapeetha.

JSSATE, Bengaluru

J SS Academy of Technical Education (JSSATE) was established in the year 1997 at Bengaluru and is

under the umbrella of JSS Mahavidyapeetha, Mysuru. JSSATE is the result of the vision of our Presi-

dent, His Holiness Jagadaguru Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji to proactively participate in

establishing a world class Institution for Technical Education. The Campus is located in a sprawling

21.17 acres land surrounded by lush green plantation on the South-Western edge of Bengaluru City. In-

stitution is affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi, India. JSSATE, Ben-

galuru has an excellent infrastructure with the state-of-the art equipment and machinery as laboratory

facilities. The Institution has spacious classrooms and the laboratories. The whole building is networked

and has centralized browsing facility with 20 Mbps dedicated internet bandwidth. Entire college has Wi

-Fi facility. The Institute has highly qualified faculty. The Institute has initiated number of multi-

disciplinary and multi-Institutional R&D programmes with AICTE, DST and other departments. Under

the R & D activity, the Institute has taken up the design and fabrication of BIO-Diesel plant in collabo-

ration with an industry and it is sponsored by Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government

of India. This was recognized as one of the best completed project and same is being replicated in dif-

ferent states. The Institute has a centralized library with open access facility for students. The Institute

Digital library has on-line access to International journals. Book bank facility is available for students.

DEPARTMENT OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

M echanical Engineering Department was started in the year 2004 with an intake of 60 students for Un-

der Graduate (B.E) program and is affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Bel-

gaum. Presently the department is headed by Dr. Anandkumar R Annigeri. The present intake of UG

course is 120 and the department is also having Post Graduate (M.Tech.) program in Thermal Engineering

and the intake of 18. The Department is well equipped with the state-of-the-art laboratories, class rooms,

well staked library and is supplemented with Wi-Fi facility. It is a recognised VTU research centre. De-

partment is celebrating birth Centenary Celebrations of Dr. Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji by or-

ganizing many fruitful programmes. The department is practicing Outcome Based Education (OBE) as a

part of NBA Accreditation process. This issue of the newsletter traces major activities in the department

during the period July-December 2015. Indeed, we have been very busy in organising various internship

programmes and workshops. The editorial committee looks forward to your feedback so that we can reach

you in a much better and improved ways in the forthcoming editions.
