Welcome Message from HOD

We started our journey in the year of 1995. The department

is committed to well being and all round development of its

students and faculty. The department runs one under

graduate programme B.Tech (Mechanical Engineering) and

two masters programmes M.Tech in Advanced

Manufacturing Systems and CAD/CAM. The department

has faculty strength of 40 out of which 16 are doctorates in

diversified specializations from IITs, NITs and State

universities and 19 are pursing Ph.D.

The main focus of our curriculum is to promote technical

competence, problem solving skills and innovation of new

technologies. Department offers wide spectrum of optional

courses to students to pursue their interest. The syllabi are

periodically updated for introducing new technological

developments.

We have state of the art labs, research and computational

facilities and wide range of software to support academic

programs. Faculty members of the department executed

externally funded research projects in Joining

Technologies, Characterization of Bone and Biomaterials,

Computational Thermodynamics of Materials, Machining

of Super Alloys etc. We also offer consultancy services in

Rapid Prototyping, Composite Materials, Joining

Technologies and Process Optimization areas.

Our graduate and undergraduate students are encouraged to

undertake various research projects in Rapid Prototyping,

3D Scanning, Joining Technologies, Composite materials,

Material Characterization etc. Our Students also get an

exposure to emerging technological developments as

members of various professional societies and through

internships, industrial visits, expert lectures, collaborative

projects and participation in conferences, workshops,

competitive events,

Dr. M. V. R. Durga Prasad Professor& Head of the Department

Vision

To develop into a Centre of Excellence in Education and

Research in the field of Mechanical Engineering,

consistent with the contemporary and future needs of the

country.

Mission

To impart high quality education by using modern

pedagogical tools to make the students technically

competent in their chosen fields and socially responsible.

To inculcate quality research by developing linkages with

Industry and R & D organizations in India & abroad.

Laboratory courses offered Mechanical Engineering first year starts with Engineering

Mechanics and Engineering Graphics so that a strong

base is laid for the students for learning advanced

mechanical engineering subjects. Numerous labs are set

up to cater academic and research needs in the

department like Machine Tools & Metrology,

CAD/CAM, Thermal Engineering, Automation &

Robotics, Heat Transfer, Metallurgy and Material

Science, Fluid Mechanics & Hydraulic Machinery,

Production Technology and Central Workshop. Students

are also trained in other labs such as C Programming

and Data Structures, Basic Electrical and Electronics

Engineering, English Language and Communication

Skills, Mechanics of Solids, Instrumentation and Control

Systems etc.

Research and Development

UG and PG students have to complete research project in

their ultimate and penultimate semester. Research areas

in the department are broadly classified into:

Composite Materials

Material Characterization

Rapid Prototyping

Computational Fluid Dynamics

Bio Fuels

Data Mining based Process Control

Theoretical and Applied Engineering

Manufacturing

CAD/CAM

Industrial Engineering and Management

Research Activities

Faculty members of the department executed research

projects funded by agencies like DRDO, AICTE and

UGC. Few of the funded research projects are:

Comparative study of weld characteristics of IS:

65032A Aluminum alloy by two processes Friction

Stir Welding (FSW) and gas tungsten arc welding

(GTAW).

CAD LAB

CNC LAB

AUTOMATION LAB

MACHINE TOOLS LAB

CAM LAB

Experimental study of influences

of pulsed current and non-pulsed

current Gas Tungsten Arc

Welding on 6082 Aluminum

alloy weldments.

Multi scale Mechanical Methods

for Characterization of Bone and

Biomaterials.

Optimization of controllable

turning parameters for High

Speed Dry Machining of Super

Alloys by measurement of Tool

Wear.

Publications

Faculty of the department published 140

research papers in reputed International

and National Journals and 72

conference papers for the past five

years.

Research Facilities in the Department

Department is equipped with wide range

of CAD/CAM software like AutoCAD

CATIA, ANSYS, Adams, Mastercam,

Inventor, GibbsCAM, IronCAD,

Edgecam, FlexSim, AutoMod,

MATLAB, Minitab, Artec Studio,

HyperMesh, MATHEMATICA,

Thermo-Calc and Image Analysis and

workstations with latest configuration

to cater to the UG and PG programs for

design, modeling and analysis of

engineering products and research

projects. Department possesses the

following research facilities:

3-D Printers, 3-D scanner for

visualization and prototype

development of products.

A center of excellence for

Joining Technology is

established by the department

with necessary infrastructure

such as Digital Metallurgical

Microscope, Digital Ultrasonic

Flaw Detector, and Digital Micro Vickers Hardness Tester

along with Thermo-Calc and

3D Printers

Student’s projects

The students undertake challenging project work which

has societal impact. As a part of B.Tech course work the

students work on mini and major projects during fourth

year. The third year students carry out course based

societal significance. Few projects undertaken by the

students are listed below:

Air Conditioned Helmet

Production of Water from Atmospheric Air

Development of Hybrid 3D Printing Machine.

Alumni

Alumni are our ambassadors to the outside world.

Alumni-Survey is collected on a regular basis after they

have spent time in the professional world. Their feedback

serves to consolidate our steps to improve the program in

a multifaceted direction. Every year alumni association is

organized in the college under the banner YUGMA.

Alumni across the industry gather on this day and share
