Mechanicsburg Place Announcements Mechanicsburg Place will be closed on: New Year’s Day: Tuesday, January 1 Martin Luther King Day: Monday, January 21 President’s Day: Monday, February 18 WINTER WEATHER: In an event of bad weather, please watch your local news stations for cancellations. You will also receive an automated voice message from Mechanicsburg Place about any closures due to snow. There is no need to call. These messages will come out before Mechanicsburg Place would open at 8:30 am. Advisory Board Meeting: February 6 | 1:00-2:00pm HEALTHY STEPS IN MOTION WILL RESUME ON WEDNSDAY, JANUARY 16 AT 10:00AM. –please see Danielle with questions. Annual Easter Egg Fundraiser We will begin our annual East Egg making on Wednesday, January 2. We are looking for volunteers to assist in the making process along with asking for donation of supplies. We will be making on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8:00 am- 2:30 pm. Please see Paul Smith with any questions about volunteering. Supplies needed are as follows: Wax paper, 2lb bags of 10X Sugar, 16 oz. peanut butter (Jiffy, Skippy or Peter Pan only), 7 oz. Jar of Marshmallow, Butter, 8 oz. Cream Cheese, coconut, and real coconut extract.

Messiah Lifeways Trip: Annual Pennsylvania Farm Show Wednesday, January 9 | pick up at MP at 8:50 am Cost: $6 (for transportation) Come and enjoy a fun “on your own” day at The Farm Show. If you are hungry for that farm show milkshake, you don’t want to miss this trip! We will arrive back at approximately 2:00 pm. This is a Messiah Lifeways Trip. Please contact Chrylann at 717.591.7203 or Angie at 717.790.8213 to get your name on the list. Then pay Danielle or Nori by cash or check payable to “Messiah Lifeways at Messiah Village” to reserve your seat. Winter Blues Pot Luck Thursday, January 10 | 11:30 am | $2 donation Come and enjoy our 2nd annual Winter Blues pot luck. This year we will be making homemade Pot Pie (with homemade roll out noodles). Everyone is welcome to come and bring a covered dish to share. We are asking for sides, salads and desserts. Please sign up (tell the receptionist what you will be bringing) by Tuesday, January 8. Cumberland County Senior Centers Event: “Wii Bowling Competition” Tuesday, January 15 | 9:30 am- 1:00 pm at Enola Senior Center $5 donation for lunch (Pizza) Come enjoy a fun day out at the Enola Senior Center for our annual Wii Bowling Competition (need 5 participants for our team). Along with the Wii bowling, we will have Corn Hole games going on as well.

Lunch will be pizza, dessert and drink. We are asking for a $5

Little Theatre of Mechanicsburg: “Radium Girls” Thursday, January 17 | 7:30 pm| $7 A drama that is a wry, unflinching look at the peculiarly American obsessions with health, wealth and the commercialization of Science. Sign-up begins Friday, January 11. Two tickets per member. You must be present to sign up. Hula in the Coola Friday, January 18 | 9:00 am-2:00 pm | FREE Come enjoy a warm sunny day inside Mechanicsburg Place. We will ward off the cold weather outside as we enjoy a summerlike party. We will have beach-like games. Such as beach chair volleyball and limbo. Come dressed in your best hula shirts and skirts! Lunch will be our Nutrition Group lunch that is Hawaiian themed as well! Please sign up at the receptionist desk by Wednesday, January 16 and be sure to sign yourself up for a lunch that day as well. Breakfast Club Tuesday, January 22 | 8:30- 9:30 am | Cost: $5 Come enjoy a home cooked breakfast by the staff at MP. As always, we will be having one savory breakfast item and a sweet item as well as fruit, coffee and juice. Please sign up by Thursday, January 17 at the receptionist desk. Nutrition Presentation with Barb from Homeland: “Nutrition and Alzheimer's” Wednesday, January 23 | 12:15 pm | FREE Join in on an informative presentation by Barb from Homeland on Nutrition and Alzheimer’s. Oyster Mill Playhouse presents “THE MOUSETRAP” Thursday, January 24 | 7:30 pm | Cost: $7 (Transportation on your own) A timeless tale of “whodunit,” Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap strands seven strangers at Monkswell Manor during a blizzard. But a police sergeant unexpectedly arrives, worried that a murderer- at-large is among the guests of the Manor. Before he can investigate, one of the guests is killed, starting an investigation into the lives and histories of everyone there. One of them is the killer, and another one of them may be next. Will the police be able to solve the case before another “mouse” falls? February 2019 Presentation with Jennifer Franks, from AdvantageCare Rehab at Messiah Village, will present on Medication Management Wednesday, February 6 | 12:15 pm- 1:00 pm| Cost: FREE Come and listen to Jennifer Franks speak about the importance of medication management and how it plays a role in the aging process. You will be encouraged to ask questions as well. No need to sign-up, just show up. Please see Danielle or Nori with any questions. Cumberland County Senior Centers Event: Family Feud at New Cumberland Senior Center. Monday, February 11 | Leave MP at 8:50 am Cost: (Suggested donation for lunch $2) Come and join in for our Family Feud Competition among the 6 different senior centers. We will need 5 members to represent Mechanicsburg Place in this fun, friendly competition, but more are welcome to come and observe. Please see receptionist. We will be carpooling to this event. Snow date will be Monday, February 25.

Messiah Lifeways Trip: Lunch at Boiling Springs Tavern Wednesday, February 13 | pick up at MP at 11:20 am Cost: $8.00 (for transportation) Lunch on your own Enjoy a lunch out with friends at the Boiling Spring Tavern. Valentine’s Day Party Thursday, February 14 | 11:00 am -12:00 noon | Cost: $2 donation for food (passing of the hat for a donation for Jamming Friends) Come enjoy a lovely time with your MP family on Valentine’s Day. We will be hosting The Jamming Friends, who will play a mix of young and old love songs. We will have a variety of dips to eat along with a Chocolate Fondue pot to dip in sweet treats. MP Trip: to The Pennsylvania National Fire Museum and lunch at the Fire House Wednesday, February 27 | Leave MP at 9:00 am Cost: TBD (please see flyer at center or call) Enjoy a day out at the Pennsylvania Fire Museum and learn about the wide variety of artifacts from hand-drawn equipment of yesterday to modern tools of today. We will have a guided tour and enjoy lunch at the Fire House in downtown Harrisburg. Lunch is on your own. Please sign up by Wednesday, February 20 and pay at the receptionist desk. Little Theatre of Mechanicsburg: Black Comedy Thursday, February 28 | 7:30 pm | Cost $7.00 (Transportation on your own) Struggling sculptor Brindsley Miller and his fiance, Carol, are having a party with the aim of impressing Carol's bombastic father, Colonel Melkett, and millionaire Georg Bamberger. They hope the two men might purchase some of Brindsley's sculptures. Without permission, they have borrowed the furniture and effects of their fussy neighbor, Harold, to make their own flat more presentable. Just before the guests arrive, the main fuse blows, plunging the flat into darkness. What follows is a frantic romp with unexpected visitors, mistaken identities, and surprises lurking in every dark corner! Only we, the audience, can see the action that ensues in the dark. As you might expect, the results are chaotic, disastrous “and very funny, indeed!. Sign-ups begins Friday, February 22 at MP for purchase. Only 2 tickets per member. First come, first serve. Messiah Lifeways Adult Day offers an enriching, uplifting, experience outside of the home for loved ones 60 and better who are unable to safely stay alone during the day. Messiah Lifeways offers adult day services in Mechanicsburg and Carlisle. Both locations are open Monday through Friday from 7:15 am -5:00 pm.

Hello All!

I hope you all had a great holiday season! Thank you to the ones who came to Mechanicsburg Place to celebrate with us! It’s hard to believe we are moving into a new year already. We kick off the New Year with our annual Easter Egg Fundraiser. We will be making eggs at MP every Tuesday and Wednesday starting January 2 up through Easter from 8:00 am to 2:30 pm. If you would like to volunteer, please see Paul Smith or me to determine what would work best with our schedule along with yours. We are also accepting donations for this fundraiser. Please see the Annual Easter Egg Fundraiser in the beginning of the newsletter for more specific donation request.
