He has more than 3,000 successful hand & upper extremity surgeries to his credit & has pioneered in many procedures which were introduced by him. Dr. Gupta has been the first person to perform Total Wrist replacement (ceramic on ceramic) in India. He started fixation of hand and wrist fractures with locking plates in India. He was first to start percutaneous fixation (< 1 cm incision) and vascularised bone grafting for nonunion scaphoid and keinbocks disease in country. An accomplished Endourologist, Laparoscopic and Robotic surgeon, Dr Ahlawat has been a Guest Faculty at most Endourology and laparoscopic workshops in India. He has the distinctive largest single unit experience in the world of conducting more than 1200 Laparoscopic Donor Nephrectomies. At Medanta, he has led successful minimally invasive nephron sparing renal surgery, prostate cancer surgery and bladder cancer surgery programs.

He was the first person to start Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) and Extra Corporeal Shockwave Biliary Lithotripsy (ESWL) in India in 1990 and 1994 respectively. Under his leadership, the Department of Gastroenterology at Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow, was consistently ranked amongst the top 5 in the country for over 5 years. Dr Choudhuri played a leadership role in developing liver and digestive health in the country as the honorary secretary and now president of the Indian Society of Gastroenterology. He is a reverred teacher and has several scientific publications, orations and awards to his credit.

He has been the President of the Indian Society of Gastroenterology and has served /serves as council member of International bodies like World Gastroenterology Organization (WGO), Asia Pacific Association of Gastroenterology (APAGE) and Coalition for Eradication of Viral Hepatitis from Asia Pacific (CEVHAP). He has also been a fellow of the World Health Organization (WHO) for health promotion.

Dr. Gourdas Choudhuri Institute of Digestive & Heapatobiliary Sciences

Dr. Gourdas Choudhuri is a leading gastroenterologist, medical educator, researcher, columnist and philanthropist. He has made seminal contributions in creating and spreading awareness on health issues in the country, especially among school and college students.

On completing his education and training from prestigious institutions, he pioneered several developments in Gastroenterology in the country. He was the first person to start Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) and Extra Corporeal Shockwave Biliary Lithotripsy (ESWL) in India in 1990 and 1994 respectively. Under his leadership, the Department of Gastroenterology at Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow, was consistently ranked amongst the top 5 in the country for over 5 years. Dr Choudhuri played a leadership role in developing liver and digestive health in the country as the honorary secretary and now president of the Indian Society of Gastroenterology. He is a reverred teacher and has several scientific publications, orations and awards to his credit.

He has been the President of the Indian Society of Gastroenterology and has served /serves as council member of International bodies like World Gastroenterology Organization (WGO), Asia Pacific Association of Gastroenterology (APAGE) and Coalition for Eradication of Viral Hepatitis from Asia Pacific (CEVHAP). He has also been a fellow of the World Health Organization (WHO) for health promotion.

Dr. Navneet K Ahluwalia, a leading and highly experienced Senior Consultant Gastroenterologist from UK, has recently joined Medanta to complement the state-of-the art Institute of Digestive Diseases. His areas of expertise are Inflammatory Bowel Diseases and Neuroenterology. [Neuroenterology covers conditions where investigations are negative despite persistent symptoms] He is a leading expert in management of diverse medical GI problems, such as- diarrhoea with bleeding from bowel, Ulcerative Colitis, Crohn’s Disease, chronic diarrhoea, malabsorption leading to weight loss and obscure anaemia, intractable or unexplained chronic abdominal pains, severe constipation and stomach or bowel symptoms despite normal endoscopy.

He is uniquely credited with the invention of a new technique in investigations of endoscopy-normal Dyspepsia, bloating and gas-distension. This is now being developed at Medanta, which is likely to be a first of its kind in India.After MD from MAMC, Delhi in 1981, he obtained further higher training and experience in the UK, and obtained FRCP from London and Ireland and PhD from Manchester. In 2007, the American Gastroenterology Society awarded him with AGAF as an International Scholar and Clinician of distinction. Alongside he completed MBA with honours from Manchester.

Dr. Ahluwalia was a founder member of Neuroenterology Committee of the British Society of Gastroenterology and held elected positions in the Royal College
