Medgar History/Black History At Medgar Evers College, you will find an exciting array of degree programs that are the foundation of our ongoing mission to connect our curriculum closely to your success in a fast-paced, global economy. Our accomplished faculty includes some of the best and brightest in academia – boasting several Fulbright Scholars, a Guggenheim Fellow and many respected researchers. Our student scholars have captured first place in prestigious competitions and presented their original research at conferences across the globe. Our graduates go on to bright careers in the business, medical and political arenas, amongst others. The College, named for the late civil rights leader, Medgar Wiley Evers (1925-1963), was established in 1969 and named in 1970, with a mandate to meet the educational and social needs of the Central Brooklyn commu- nity. The College is committed to the fulfillment of this mandate. The mission of Medgar Evers College is to develop and maintain high quality, professional, career-oriented undergraduate degree programs in the context of liberal education. The College has a commitment to students who desire self-improvement, a sound education, an opportunity to develop a personal value system, and an opportunity to gain maximum benefits from life experience and from their environment. Located in the center of the historic Crown Heights section of Brooklyn, Medgar Evers College is at the heart of an ever-changing cultural land- scape. At Medgar Evers College, you will find an exciting array of degree programs that are the foundation of our ongoing mission to connect our curriculum closely to your success in a fast-paced, global economy.
