ENDICOTT COLLEGE

GULLS

2009 women’s’soccer

Two of the top-10 scorers in The Commonwealth Coast Conference return to the Endicott offense in 2009, as the Gulls look to continue the success of last season that saw the Blue and Green earn the College’s first-ever At-Large berth into the NCAA Tournament. The Gulls posted a 16-3-3 overall record a year ago, knocking-off host Nazareth College (Rochester, N.Y.) in double-overtime before falling to eventual Final Four participant and fifth-ranked William Smith College in pen-alty kicks in the NCAA Tournament.

Head coach Jodi Kenyon welcomes back ten members from the 2008 squad, including The Commonwealth Coast Conference Player of the Year Caitlin Flynn (Southold, N.Y.). Flynn, who tallied 16 goals and eight assists, led the league in points (40) and finished second in both goals and assists. She will be complimented by standout Colleen Pepin (Fairhaven, Mass.), who notched 14 goals and three assists in her freshman campaign.

Senior forward Allyson Bellemore (Manchester, N.H.) should prove to be an additional offensive threat, as she has shown the knack for scoring key goals in key moments to allevi-ate the pressure off both Flynn and Pepin. Bellemore finished the ’08 season with five goals and seven assists, good for 17 points.

In the midfield, Endicott will once again be anchored by Kellie Lajoie (York, Maine) and Kayla Corbett (Danvers, Mass.), both of whom provide solid leadership and consistency through the middle of the field. Junior Sarah Johnson (Harrisville, R.I.) will also be in the fold, as she has the ability to surprise

opponents with tremendous speed on the outside, positioning herself for a potential breakout season.

Kayla and Karyn Plante (Sanford, Maine) enter upperclassmen status after productive seasons in both 2007 and ’08. Karyn posted a well-rounded two goals and three assists for seven points last year while Kayla had five goals and one assist. The Gulls also add key freshman recruit Cheyenne Harris (Benardsville, N.J.) to the mix, as she will be called upon to make major contributions in her first year on campus.

The Gulls will need to overcome the graduation of defenseman Sarah Miller (Nashua, N.H.), who was one of the most complete players in the program’s history. Junior Victoria Hunt (Cumberland, R.I.) will be asked to fill the gap, as she is a solid athlete with speed and a tireless work ethic. Coach Kenyon also adds defensive depth with an outstanding recruiting class that features Caitlin Peters (Salem, N.H.), Lauren Todd (Newfield, N.H.), Christine Silva (Stoneham, Mass.), Logan Prescott (Topsham, Maine) and Kayla Leonardi (Grafton, Mass.). The group has the ability to organize and shut down opponents by closing gaps on the defensive end. Peters brings a rampant pace and tenacity, while Todd and Silva will compete with a composed presence that sets the rhythm for the rest of the team.

Senior Nicole Lawlor (Mansfield, Mass.) has paid her dues and is now ready to assume the No. 1 goal-keeper duties for 2009. An athletic netminder, Lawlor has seen valuable minutes throughout the previous three seasons and should be able to step right in between the pipes to

Jodi KenyonThe 2009 season marks Jodi Kenyon’s fifth year as the head coach of the Endicott women’s soccer program. Kenyon is the third coach in the program’s successful history and she also serves as Associate Athletic Director of Endicott Athletics.

Under Kenyon, the Gulls have qualified for four straight postseason appearances, including reaching the NCAA Tournament “Sweet Sixteen” for the first time in program history in 2006. In 2008, the team received an NCAA Tournament At Large berth, becoming the first Endicott team to do so. Kenyon has compiled an all-time record of 67-17-5 in just four seasons, establishing one the most successful coaching records at Endicott. The Gulls have also won The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) Tournament championship from 2003-2007, (three under Kenyon) as well as earning the National Soccer Coaches Association (NSCAA) Academic Award from 2005-2008.

The Endicott women’s soccer program, which began competing in the NCAA in 1993, has compiled a 141-27-5 record in conference play and has won eight championships, including five consecutive from 2003-2007. Endicott players have received numerous conference recognition awards highlighted by five student-athletes earning the conference player of the year and two receiving rookie of the year honors.

Prior to arriving at Endicott, Kenyon served as Head Coach at the University of Vermont from 1997 through 2003 where her teams compiled a record of 41-78-7. She was also an assistant coach for four seasons at Harvard University with teams that won two Ivy crowns and collected 37 wins. Kenyon began her coaching career at her Alma Mater, Adelphi University (Garden City, N.Y.), where she was an assistant for three seasons, coaching a team that featured former Endicott coach Dina Gentile. Kenyon helped lead Adelphi to four NCAA Division II tournament appearances, three as finalists.

Kenyon graduated from Adelphi University in 1989 with a BS in Physical Education and 1994 with a MA in Athletic Administration. At Adelphi, Kenyon was an Academic All-American and earned conference recognition all four years of her career. In January of 2006, Kenyon earned her National Soccer Association (NSCAA) Premier Diploma.

Born in Oneonta, N.Y., home of the National Soccer Hall of Fame, Kenyon attended Worcester Central High School where she scored 108 goals in her career. Kenyon currently resides in Beverly, Mass.

make a major impact for the Blue and Green. She will be pushed, however, by the emergence of sophomore Elise Berry (London-derry, N.H.), who looks to gain more experience as the season progresses.

The Gulls, who have appeared in eight-straight TCCC title games, will begin the pursuit of a Conference crown when the Blue and Green open league play on September 12th against Regis College. Endicott’s schedule also features tough non-conference games against both Babson and Wellesley, and a Midwest trip to face Denison and Ohio Wesleyan.
