The real state of Civil engineering in Vietnam

Civil Engineering is specialized with an emphasis on constructing and managing both civil and

building urban construction projects. This is a broad major that covers water, structural, local

    and also environmental engineering.

At KINGS Vietnam University, Civil engineering is introduced as a comprehensive program that

comprises six semesters (four courses per semester and two semesters of Work Integrated

    Learning).

As a developing country, Vietnam has a great demand for the development of infrastructure,

buildings, factories, houses, and other types of construction projects in difficult subsoil

conditions and limited resources. The years 2008 and 2009 saw a big number of engineering

construction problems (which make up 70% of all construction problems of society).

Noticeably, the collapse of Can Tho Bridge (26 September 2009) or the collapse of ThiNghe

Bridge has called up a warning sound about the lack in standardized quality expertise and code

of ethics. Also, problems with the stability of national highway and natural slopes are the

obvious proof for the low quality of construction consulting service and the weaknesses in risk

management, engineering, technology and material solutions. The drives to the thirst for a

more efficient workforce that will help reconstruct deteriorating Vietnamese infrastructure

    and urban redevelopment.

Moreover, during the last 50 years, the climate has changed. Consequently, Vietnam is one of 5

countries that will have severe impact due to the rising of water level and the higher

temperature. This change can cause a failure in soil investigation, design and construction of

diaphragm wall and the protection of water flow and soil movement. Therefore, the quality of

management, control, assurance and monitoring will decrease obviously. This state results in a

pressing requirement for a young and well qualified generation in the field of maintaining the

civil construction as well as developing the urban facilities.

Overall, it is necessary to develop and adapt new engineering solutions and concrete

technology in foundation and construction for sustainable development and for a better quality

of life. This is the reason why the rate of employment within the civil engineering graduates

has been increased over the last 10 years in Vietnam.

At present, in Vietnam, it is considered to be an excellent time to be a civil engineer. Employers

are now offering rising salaries and sign-on bonuses to call for standardized human resources,

not only within Vietnam but also around the world.

KINGS Vietnam offers a global passport in the career of civil engineering

Civil Engineering at KINGS Vietnam is the optimal choice for students who wantto have high position in the competitive world of construction. - Prime Minister

    Nguyen Tan Dung indicated.

KINGS Vietnam University made an important announcement about its introduction of the

new Civil Engineering program today. This program is introduced with the purpose ofincreasing the opportunities for students in a field that is in such great demand in Vietnam..

Civil Engineering is claimed to be the highest demand of Vietnamese society now and forthe next 10 years. It is more than necessary to develop and adapt new engineeringsolutions to recreate the balance for Vietnamese construction and maintenance of thephysical and natural buildings Professor Mary Lowe, the President of KINGS Vietnam, said in her recent statement.

According to the U.S. Department of Labors Occupational outlook handbook, employmentof civil engineering increased by 35% through 2008; this number illustrates a need forhuman resources in this industry. Spurred by general population growth and an

expanding economy, more and more civil engineers will be needed, this department alsoclaimed in their latest research.

Dr. Michael K. Stenstrom, chair of the department of civil engineering at KINGS UniversityatMelbourne, when speaking about the launch of this program in Vietnam proclaimed thatas for the offerings from Vietnamese construction employers, I strongly believe thatstudents can find a job right after they finish the degree. My overall feeling is that theemployment outlook for graduates of Civil engineering from KINGS is probably the best ofall degrees they will be dancing in the streets in five or six years!

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung also pointed out that The practical experience as part of

the course proved not only invaluable but also offered a fantastic platform for furtheringstudents experience and career. This is the way KINGSprovides a strong foundation forgraduate engineers who aspire to succeed in their future career in such a competitive field.Potential students can submit their applications for enrolment from January for the intakeof the academic year 2010.

KINGSVietnam is the first fully foreign owned university licensed to operate in its own rightin Vietnam. Since its establishment in 2001, KINGS has been highly appreciated for its
