MEDIALINKS – OBSERVATIONS

Here a summary of observations by our data-research division:
Big Brands like Honda and XL definitely see sports as an opportunity to brand and sell at
the same time. Honda promoting HONDA-DBL, so it seems, bought most of the space of
the Riau Post last month and early this month to color up the student-basket-ball
competition in Pekanbaru Riau with the big final on Saturday March5, 2011. The Riau
Post looked more like a Honda Tabloid than a news paper for this thrilling event.
Honda is one of the biggest advertisers of their motorcycles (DBL, Blade, Revo) but also
their many car ad’s for the CR-V and Accord. Honda is present on all media that we are
monitoring.
XL took its share sponsoring the basket ball competition in Makassar. Then they have
this best picture competition with Apple and Blackberry Products for the winners.

Speaking of Blackberry and Apple, these two really have started all engines in order to
compete with other big smart phone and tablet manufacturers. There are lots of them,
besides Samsung Galaxy, to be found on billboards, news papers and online
advertisements there is; Zyrex with a tablet under Rp4.000.000 and Dell Streak.
Last two were only in computers, but have now expanded their product line with smartphones.
While hot mobile phones in Jakarta are considered to be Samsung, Blackberry, Nokia
and LG, the manufacturers of low priced mobile phones see more opportunities outside
Jakarta. Pixcomm, Asiafone, Venera, G-Star, Blueberry, T ocall and Nexcomm promote
their products in papers like Radar Lampung, Riau Pos, Fajar etc.
Ti-Phone is still looking for every empty billboard in the country, so it seems, to promote
their entire Ti Phone collection. From bus stops on Jendral Sudirman Jakarta to online,
local newspapers and billboards in other cities.
Female products need specific media, where pure male products can advertise almost
anywhere. Male products are still dominant in Online Advertisements that we clipped
in February 2011.
