Imaging All 3 main images are in

action from the film 2 out of the 3 main

images are very large and take up almost half the page.

2 out of 3 images are positioned in the top half of the page.

Use: I choose to use an in action shot from the film for the image because I feel it is important as it allows the audience to get a small insight of what’s to come if they watch the film and it is a teaser for the audience because they would want to know what’s going on in the scene.I also decided to have the image large in size so It takes up a lot of the page, therefore it will catch the attention of the audience as it will be the first thing they see when they look at the review.Challenged: I decided to challenge the convention of the image being in the top half of the page because I felt like the image should be more around the centre of the review where It can attract the audiences eye almost instantly because I believe that the image is an important part of the review as it gives the audience an actual feel of the film as they can visualise a sneak peak from a moment in the film.

Page design and layout

2 of the 3 reviews are laid out in a portrait form on a single a4 page.1 review is laid out in a landscape form spread across two a4 pages.

I decided to challenge the codes and conventions for the page and design and layout of my magazine review as I felt that having the whole review on one page would limit the amount I could write so there is a chance I could leave out some important information where as having the review landscape and across 2 pages gave me lots of space and made me want to add more to the review so I could fill in any gaps..

Headings/Titling All 3 use block capitals

for the headings and titles.

All 3 use “IN CINEMAS” as the heading.

2 of 3 have the heading at the top of the page.

All 3 have the title name of the film positioned beneath the image.

I decided to follow and use all of these codes and conventions for the headings/titling because they are important and need to stand out because they inform the audience on what the review is all ab0ut and I think that the magazine reviews I analysed made the headings and titles stand out successfully.

However I did choose to change the heading from “In cinemas” to “New releases” simply because our media product is a short film which would not really be screened in a cinema so I did not want to make it unrealistic.

Rating system

All 3 reviews used a star system to give the film a final rating.2 of 3 had a “verdict” section at the bottom giving a short, final statement on how good the film is.

I also used a start system to finalise the rating of the film because I think it is a short and easy way to allow the audience to understand roughly how good the film will be if they watched it. Star systems can be helpful for some because they may not want to read the whole review or don’t have time to so having a star system gives them a good idea on the quality of the film.

I did not have a verdict box however I did still give the film a verdict but I decided to include it at the end of the actual review.
