Research Into Code & Conventions: Ancillary Task 1

Page 2: Media regional magazine research ancillary 1

In order to gain an accurate representation of the codes and conventions found in the websites of regional magazines I have researched a few. Here there is a white background with a logo or brand name n the top left corner, it is also the largest and boldest font so you know immediately what the website is for. The page includes a few images so to not make it look boring and give the viewer an idea of the images in the magazine. It also has and example or two of articles from the most recent issue of the magazine. Along the top under the logo are several useful links to categories of the magazine that may interest the reader. This means they can navigate the magazine without reading the whole thing.

This is the website is the internet home for regional magazine Cornwall life. Although meeting much of the same conventions as Devon life with regards to general things like its logo being the most obvious item on the page, this web page is very different. Below the logo are far less links to elsewhere in the website. This makes the page look far less cluttered and more simplistic. This in my opinion makes the page more attractive. Below that are several examples of articles you may find in the magazine as well as “exclusive” deals and prizes to tempt the potential consumer. Links to social media are much further down the page and this makes the web page look more appealing. However much like the others the company have used plenty of white on the page to give it a neutral and more aesthetically pleasing look.

This website for ‘Kent life magazine is much the same as Devon life in that it meets almost all the same codes and conventions. Much like the Devon life web page the brand name and logo is at the top of the screen and is the most eye catching thing on the page. Below at the same useful links for the reader and the search bar for the consumer to find exactly what they want on the page, as well as social media links in order to keep updated on the website and magazine. The front page is very light with regards to colour. Using a lot of whites it make the page look simple and professional. The home also includes links to special deals to entice potential market.
