2. One of the things that has changed the most over the years is the telephone and the different ways we communicate 3. Alexander Graham Elisha GrayBell 4. 1930 DESK SETLate 1940s to early 1950s Desk setwith cloth cord1920 WALL MOUNTEDTELEPHONE 1980s TRIMLINE TELEPHONE 5. As years passed, the evolution of telephones changed and a new way of communication wasintroduced through on-the-godevice, the cell phone. 6. April30, 1984 - Dr. Martin Cooper invents the first personal handset while working for Motorola. 7. Alongwith making cell phones easier to use and carry, companies started to create cell phones with text messaging, internet, GPS as well as built in camera, MP3 and much more! Here are two examples: 8. Cell phones have become a popular trend that iscommon among people of high culture but nottoo common among people of low culture People of high culture prefer the newlydeveloped cell phones because of the tools it haswithin that can be used to carry out differenttasks. Whereas people of low culture are olderand using such high tech cell phones can bequite complex for their understanding BUT whether or not people of high culture or lowculture would like to use these new high techcell phones would depend on the three factors oftaste culture; education, income, andoccupation. 9. CELL PHONES Watch these two videos and then go to the next slide to see the analysis of the Galaxy Nexus commercial using the Media Triangle. 10. Galaxy Nexus: Media Triangle Text This Galaxy Nexus commercial shows how people with different interests can make use of the product. It also follows a formula and uses conventions that are expected on a cell phone commercial. Audience The target audience for this media text is everyone which is why the commercial is called Galaxy Nexus For All. Some specific target audiences for this commercial include visionaries, scientists, meeters/greeters, wondering navigators and many more. This type of media text appeals to its target audience because it appeals to their interests and fulfills their personal needs. Production The producer of Galaxy Nexus is Google and the purpose of producing this cell phone is to allow people to use a cell phone that goes beyond just calling but rather more advanced with its face unlock, voice typing and many other features. This text is distributed and sold to the public through the Internet and by different phone providers. The sales of this product profits Google and phone providers such as Virgin Mobile and Best Buy. 11. Key Concepts Commercial Implications Most telephone companies focus on groups or individuals that will generate profit for the product theyre selling and advertising to catch peoples attention. The group that most telephone companies focus on are teenagers and young adults because almost every teenager or younger at least has one cell phone if not the latest one. Therefore, by focusing on these groups and creating products that appeal to them would make a lot of profit for cell phone companies. Audience Negotiates Meaning Everyone has a different taste and when it comes to the audience negotiating the meaning of a media/product there can be many reasons reflecting their interpretation. For example, iPhones 4S are very desirable to many people but due to the complexity of the device, it can be concluded that many senior citizens may not like the iPhone 4S thus making them not purchase that product. But that meaning that they interpret about the media can be based on their age, gender, culture, and personal needs. Forms, Codes, and Conventions Due to the amount of features that are now added to cell phones, cell phone companies make use of different forms, codes and conventions to show how the different features work. For example, for the new iPhone 4S , the company uses different angles and camera shits to show how the new feature works. 12. THE END!
