In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Page 2: Media task 1 1

In our music video we filming scenes of a band performing. This matching our genre conventions because in professional music videos of indie rock they include and focus a lot on the band singing and the instruments involved so we used this convention. The band performing connects with the music video and gives the audience a feel of being there in the video and watching the artists.

In our music video we used close ups of the main artist to create a feeling as if the artist is singing to the viewer. As he is looking directly in the camera it intensifies this feeling. We have also used lip syncing which also work with it. The use of lip syncing also connecting into Goodwin's theory of visuals and lyrics.

For the story in our video we used a close up of the girls phone so it shows the audience what she is texting. This makes it clearer to the audience what is happening. It also creates emotional connection to the character which is to create more interest for the audience and keep them wanting to watch the video. This is a use of intersexuality by using a different technology in the video.

With the artist interacting with the camera this is also to make the audience feel like they’re their. It creates a personal relationship with the audience and the artist. We also used this clip so it created editing on the beat which relates to Goodwin's theory of music and visuals. This makes the video flow more smoothly and seem more professional.

We used the main singer in the story to create a star persona for the artist. This is to help with our ancillary products as well so we can use the star persona we have created to sell the products. We have also used this type of lighting to create a gloomy effect which creates the right feeling of the music video and the characters feelings. This is to make the audience understand the emotional aspects.

We have got shots of the instruments which are aimed specifically for the target audience. From our research we found the audience that listen to this type of music and we used this to our advantage and included the actual instruments into the video. This is using genre characteristics and staying the Goodwin’s theory.

We choose our location carefully for our video and when we were there we made sure that we included everything that fit the indie rock genre. In this clip you can see more guitars on the wall which we made sure were in the shot. This keeps the artist in his element and doesn’t change anything for the viewer. This is also a use of Goodwin's theory and a need to sell the artist it makes him look rich and appealing to the target audience.

To connect the whole video together so the audience understand it before the end we used timing and editing to make it clearer to the audience how everything is related in the video. Using the scenes when the girl is texting someone we then showed later in the video that the main artists phone is flashing and he doesn’t realise. Showing the storyline clearly using is developing the conventions of music videos because we have used parallel editing instead of continuity editing.

We have used the darker images to connect with the genre characteristics it. We have made the side panels because then it is more like a professional music digipak. The filters that we used to edit each panel is to make them look darker which fits with the indie rock genre, it create a better effect of the artists start persona. We feel like we have included many ways to fit it with Goodwin's theory, it includes pictures of the main artists ‘Need to sell the artist’ we have used genre characteristics and a feel of voyeurism because the artist is not looking directly in the camera.

We used the same black and white theme throughout all 3 of our promotional products. We used the red text because it matched with the underground logo. We included all the necessary information such as where and when it is available, the record label and what it is.

We have used the conventions of a professional music video such as the picture of the artist, it shows who the digipak is for and gives the audience a feel of what the digipak is about.
